Can you add custom teams If so how many? What about custom names?

You can change the teams (names, logos, colors, arena...basically most things), but you have to stay within the confines of the league setup. That basically means that if the real NBA had a format with X amount of teams, you can use that setup. So max is 30 teams (with 32 possible upon expansion...which has major caveats), and 32 teams come standard with the D-League. That can't be changed.

Player names can be changed with the in-game editor or an external one.

In summary, many of the main things can be edited, but if you're expecting OOTP customization, you wont find it to that level.

When you start a new league, you can choose to create a custom league with a wide range of available team options (8-10, 12, 16, 22-23, 25, 27, 29-30). You can also choose your league size when using a custom roster file to start your new league. And you can set the names for any of those teams, or leave them at default. Our modding community also does a phenomenal job creating package of pre-set team names, courts, etc, if you'd rather not re-name them all yourself.
