Personally, right now I think it's just my FOMO that is keeping me intrigued over CF22. That and the fact there's definitely a diamond in the rough here, so supporting a small dev team is appealing.
There may well be enough there to warrant a new game but for those who have not yet purchased FA it seems a tough road to discover exactly what that might be.
Beyond a few bullet points listed on this forum and even fewer details on the website or Steam, I don't think it's unfair to suggest it just feels a bit flat right now.
Many sports franchise games rely heavily on the fact their yearly updates bring updated rosters, trades, transfers, etc. Even then, there are usually at least a few Prime Time feature additions or updates that marketing of the game hangs its hat on. CF does not include the first point and from what I can tell, there's nothing major on the second point either.
I've purchased FM/CM for 30 years now and even back when it was just the two brothers coding from their bedroom you could always rest assured there would be major additions or focused overhauls on some gameplay and immersive content.
When you play FM you play a simulation game and you feel totally immersed as a Football Manager and what that might be like on a daily basis or at least as much as a spreadsheet game allows. Imagination fills in the rest.
CF19, 20, and 21 are great games but as far as the player is immersed in the day-to-day aspects of running a Cf program. Meh. They require heaps more imagination. They're still fun but is there really $50 (CDN) more fun to be had in CF22?
This thread started off making the bold statement: New Standard - Must Buy!
Three pages of comments later and I for one remain unconvinced.
I'll choose the Steam route and feel pretty sure I'll know whether it is indeed a New Standard - Must Buy within 2 hours of gameplay. Hopefully, I'll not be refunding it.
