Wishbone Formation - Mod for AI playbooks?

Wishbone Formation - Mod for AI playbooks?

Postby SalukiFin » Wed Mar 30, 2022 10:31 pm

Just played a game in the demo, and Boise State ran multiple plays out of wishbone. Is there a mod to make playbooks more modern, or at least themed per team, where a team won't use a run heavy set one play, and 4 wide the next?

I'd just like to see Army and Navy not throw the ball 40 times a game

tbh we deliberately avoid hardcoding that stuff. Maybe in 2023 year Boise hires a run first coach and we would have to redo it. Also it tends to give weird results (like in madden08 if the game generated a rookie QB named Peyton Manning he would call audibles for 35 seconds like his retired namesake because they hardcoded the behavior on the name...). Also, suppose someone creates a mod where army is no longer army, such hardcoding (depending on how we did it) would interfere unduely on their alternate universe. In the future we may add some option in league settings that could handle it, but nothing is on the table right now.

The play styles are embedded into the teams.xml file for default or modding purposes, but the play styles are further adjusted based on the coach hired at the school, so you may get some odd combinations depending on how your league and teams are set up.

I think this could be accomplished through adding more default coaches playbooks. We should have at least one offensive coach's philosophy added that focuses on QB runs and option plays. Perhaps there should be one that uses more spread formation plays (it could be called something like 'Spread Option') and one that uses more of the power and wishbone formations (Smash Mouth Option). The latter would be the philosophy that we would assign to the coach that calls plays for Army and Navy.
