Second we are running giveaways everywhere today. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Reddit, Discord and of course right here in this very thread. Watch for the posts all day long on those sites as the contests will be trickling out over the next couple of hours.

Finally at 8pm EST tonight we are going to have a special stream on our Twitch channel at https://www.twitch.tv/wolverinestudios - I'm going to be showing off something we are very excited about plus we will be having a giveaway there as well so be sure to stop by and say hello during the stream.

Ok onto the giveaway.......

We will select one winner at random from this thread and that winner will be able to choose any of our current Wolverine Studios games as their prize for winning. All you need to do to enter is respond in this thread to the following question (only one response/entry per person is allowed)

Q : If you had the chance to put one feature into any of our games what would be the feature you add?

Posted this a while back in a thread with CJackson but it’s my number 1 idea/request so it’s going here again so you see it Gary!

In no particular order, here’s my thoughts on scouting and how it could be improved to improve the immersion alongside the draft.

The game currently has ‘scouting levels’ - points based on your staff abilities which we can assign to the different categories (quick ranking to deep dive) However, until the workouts, the player doesn’t get any feedback or reports from scouts whatsoever.

I’d use the same idea of points but let the player use points to send scouts to ‘watch’ certain players in the draft list. For example, the scouts could complete 1 report per week and at the end of the week, an inbox item with ‘some’ knowledge about the player scouted.

The knowledge could be progressive/cumulative - the more times the scouts are assigned to the same player, the greater the knowledge level of said player. This could be reported as a % out of 100. For example, I choose to scout player X on the draft list. After 1 report I’ve learnt something about them be it personality, play style, strength or weakness and I can see the scout knowledge of the player listed as 10% maybe. If I scout this player multiple times, the knowledge increases, as does the picture they have built of the player.

The beauty of this would be the player cannot scout all the draft prospects in the season and get full knowledge. I’d even build it so it’s limited to add a fog of war reflecting real life and the uncertainty of the draft. For example, if there’s 40 weeks available, and a player can have 1 report done by scouts per week, that’s a maximum of 40 reports. Does the player get 8 reports on 5 players for detailed knowledge, or do they get 2 reports on 20 players for some knowledge? If the AI is doing the same and held to the same (the AI can’t have visibility of everything, eg current and potential abilities or it defeats the aim - Football Manager seems to fall down on this because the AI appears to know potential that the human can’t know)

In real life the draft is unpredictable, and top 3 picks are not guaranteed to be superstars, and late picks and second round picks can throw up hidden gems. For example, Anthony Bennett, Kwame Brown, Greg Oden and Sam Bowie would be considered busts. Whereas Nikola Jokic (41st pick), Draymond Green (#35), Jimmy Butler (#30), Dennis Rodman (#27), Manu Ginobli (#58), Tony Parker (#28), Rudy Gobert (#27) amongst others (Even mid first rounders like Booker, Nash, Bryant, Stockton) all became superstars.

This doesn’t seem to happen in the game. The players at the top of the draft list with the highest star ratings are going to go early and be good players and I haven’t seen anyone with low star rating, or who is taken later or second round become a good player. More uncertainty, fog of war needed. This could easily link to each team and who they scouted during the season (the AI has to be limited to the same conditions as the player) It would be much more interesting and fun to know that scouts can be wrong more often, that a lack of scouting knowledge from the season could cause you to miss a great player or a player goes under the radar because none of the teams either rated them or scouted them enough and they end up taken late or in round 2 like Jokic but become a future MVP and superstar.

Maybe players developing differently or at different speeds - they go under the radar in the draft because at the time they were seen as a 2 star player. They go in the second round but develop well as a role player and start improving - a few years in they are now rated as a 4 star player or potential 4 star player.

Additionally, I think we should get match reports on players. What I mean is every so often it’d be nice to get a news item saying player X had a monster game this week for Team Y. He scored 33 points and grabbed 15 rebounds on route to a win against Team Z. Little things to bring the players to life and keep it interesting throughout the season.

I think scouting needs to reveal player personalities as well. A big addition to 2022 was the revamped personalities and the importance of fitting players together. We can see player personalities for those in the league but not the draft prospects, even after the workouts. I think draft prospects that we workout or that we have scouted and uncovered this knowledge of, should have known personalities. Why? Because the player is spending more time trying to mesh the personalities so surely the draft pick needs to fit this plan/jigsaw. If I’ve built a team of planners, I don’t want someone who is going to disrupt that, but I don’t know the personality of the drafted player until after I’ve picked them.

I know that’s a lot of info/suggestions. Happy to discuss any in more depth if you want. Played Football Manager for 24 years and seen how that grew and developed over the years. I think there’s things from that game that can be used here in similar ways (like the player comparison idea I suggested and you implemented)

I would love to see official licensing. I totally understand that this may not be within reach for a small studio but it would be great nonetheless.

I recently discovered your sports franchise and it has been like a breath of fresh air. As a Football Manager veteran I really wanted to scratch that itch with similar games to FM, but in american football and basketball.

My suggestions are for the pro football games:

First let me start by saying i play all my games, instead of simulating them.

Regarding penalties. It would be nice to have a feature where the AI decides what is the most advantageous choice for the player of accepting or rejecting penalties, because i am not familiar with all of the different rules and most of the time, when asked I just randomly pick, yes or no.

During the match it would be really nice to add a big text bar, that says everything that is happening during the play instead of the smaller on that is in the corner, or add the option to display player numbers instead of the positions in the player circles, because most of the time i see a receiver catching a pass bust i have no idea who that player is :) until the play is over.

That's it from me. Keep up the good work guys!

Adding more options to contracts would be cool like adjusting salary per year, guaranteed money along with the bonuses or negotiating with agents. Thinking like how football manager does it.

Various off the field events could make for some interesting decisions that can affect the team or individual players

I’m a couple years behind so sorry if my suggestions are a bit behind

First, congrats on your sweet 16! I have bounced on and off here for a very long time and must admit that the WS group has matured into a well respected team with amazing products. I toast you and lok forward to the next 16 years!

I have tried to give this some serious thought, which for an old retired Marine isn't always easy. If I could/would try to promote one thing that you could do with the game genres you have in your product line would be to start/continue to mature the products with an eye on having them mature more towards being simulations than being representative games that try to appeal to an audience you feel may not appreciate a simulations level of play. Of course the model that has done this amazingly well is OOTP. Should WS continue to develop a more hardcore approach to capture things like detailed financials (stadium, concessions, player, etc.), markets, staff interactions (the list could go on and on) as well as the relationships between each of these and others the customer appeal would follow. The end result being a truer simulation. A simulation that would provide the same, or very similar, experience for both a solitaire player as well as one that participates in multi-player leagues.

Having followed your football line more then any other a specific interst of mine would be to see the addition of a career mode to enhance and promote solitaire play. This would allow the player to begin a career as an assistant coach which could lead to a coordinator position, head coach and ultimately a GM offer. Expanding on this a career may begin in the college game and following successes and maturing that player would move up as noted and once in a coordinator or head coach position "may" be interviewed and possibly selected by a pro team.

Again, congrats on WS's past success and future sucesses!

I'd like to echo everything that NBryant just said. As for what I'd like to see in a new feature is again something a little more OOTP-like: the ability to better model a specific era. For all sports, things have changed a lot since the end of WWII. In football terms, I'd love the ability to have players be able to be slotted into the depth chart on both offense and defense as players did go two-ways - and teams in the 50s didn't carry specialist kickers or punters. The players have rating slots for those things, so it'd be neat to be able to use your QB as a safety or your Lou Groza-like tackle as the kicker. Things like that, plus making the coaching style reflect the times (heavy run and less - and more risky - passing). I'd love to be able to play both football and basketball in a "realistic" environment going back to 1950 or so and have things evolve.

The Wolverine games are solid and continually being improved. One thing I'd like to see expanded (as shtef12 alluded to) is more unexpected/uncontrollable and sometimes odd issues arising that affect a player or players or the whole team. Some should have positive impact (e.g., media highlights a team and the players get psyched up for their next game and play just a little better than they would otherwise or a player has something good happen in his life that causes him to play the next game better, etc) while others would have negative impact (3 guys on a team come down with the flu and miss the next game, a guy is involved in a car accident and misses 4 games, a death in the family makes a player miss a game, a guy gets into a fight or makes an obscene gesture or remark that causes him to be suspended for a game or two, etc.). Sore of a feature for life happening.

Of course, since not everyone would want this occurring in their associations and some would want it occurring at varying levels. there should be a toggle in OPTIONS for "none, low, medium, and high" for this feature.
