Increased steals in 2022 Beta

Increased steals in 2022 Beta

Postby Billdozer » Tue Mar 08, 2022 12:16 am

I am wondering if other players have noticed an increase in the number of steals? The team leader in my association has averaged 15 steals a game and this number has been around 11 or 12 in previous versions. The VCU point guard recently had 11 steals against my UMASS team. I have had games where my team has 20 steals in one game.

It is possible the steal rate is too high - it has been adjusted for the game so that guards get more steals and big men get fewer as in prior games there were too many PF/C at the top of the steals leader board but I will take a look and see where further adjustments are needed

I don't have any long term stats to put out there but in the games I've played, it seems like there will be back to back to back to back steals at least a couple of times per game (I'm talking steals by the same team). Wondering if momentum isn't playing a part also after a steal or two.

Thanks, I believe your adjustment for steals by position has worked as intended. In real life this year for steals, two teams are averaging 11 or more and 3 teams or averaging 10 or more.

FYI: During the beta testing this is what I found out and reported to Gary 2 weeks ago about steals. blocks and turnovers by team. Not sure if he had a chance to adjust things yet or not since he may have had higher priority issues to address.

"Real Life NCAA this season for SPG for TEAMS....Range was from 11.3 spg to 3.5 spg with median being 6.5 spg. CB22, Version 10.4...range was from 15.9 spg to 1.1 spg with median being 11.5 spg. So the range was much greater than in real life and the overall average was much higher than in real life."

"BLOCKS, CB22: Range was 6.9 to 1.5 bpg with median being 4.1 bpg. In real life NCAA; range was 8.2 to 1.3 bpg with median being 3.1 bpg. So while the range was narrower, the average number of blocks was a little higher in CB22 than in real life."

"TURNOVERS, CB22: range was 23.6 to 13.3 topg with median being 18.1 topg. In real life NCAA the range was 21.2 to 8.9 topg with median being 12.9 topg. So turnovers are much higher in CB22 than in real life."

And here's what my findings were with respect to guards vs big men getting steals (as you'll not this was with a beta version prior to First Access):

"With Beta Version 10.4-- STEALS on my team for starters...PG had 1.3, SG 1.4 spg, SF 1.8 spg, PF 1.3 spg and C 1.6 spg. For entire association, Steals leader board: Top 10 included 2 SFs and 8 SGs. Top PG was 20th. Top 50: 4 PGs. 33 SGs, 12 SFs, 0 PFs, 1 C. Top C was 82nd. In my CB21 association, Top 10 included 5 SFs. 2 PFs. 2 Cs. and a SG. Best PG was 44th. Top 50 included: 1 PG, 4 SGs, 13 SFs. 6 PFs, 26 Cs. So it appears that things have really swung to SG's with your new steal logic. In real life NCAA this season....Top 50: 46 were Guards, 4 were Forwards; Next 50: 42 were Guards, 8 were Forwards. (NCAA stats just indicate "G" or "F"}. So CB22 is pretty close to real life. Not sure why there are so many SGs and so few PGs getting steals in CB22 though."

Came here to post about this very thing. I also notice that lead guards will often have more turnovers per game than assists. Even the elite-elite PGs seem to be barely getting over a 1:1 ratio.

What does everyone think about steals/turnovers since latest update? I've played 5 games and TO's still seem high.

I ran a test association thru a whole season and found that steals had decreased slightly (spg/team) but still were above those in real life. I passed along the findings separately to Gary . I think it's a matter of tweak, tweak, tweak and trying to avoid any tweak from being too great.

I agree that the turnovers are still too high, in running through 2 full seasons, I saw at least 10 games where either me or the opponent had at least 25 TOs and one where I had 31.
