Not sure why this is happening

What kind of association are you creating? Does it do the same thing if you try creating via different mode (e.g. Quick Start, Challenge, Sandbox)? Do you have the most current update installed?

Actually, if it were me, I'd first uninstall, then download and re-install. Sounds like something isn't quite right with what you've got installed.
