YOUR Mind Blowin' Ideas

YOUR Mind Blowin' Ideas

Postby PointGuard » Sun Aug 07, 2022 1:08 pm

Hey, you can look through the Suggestions List thread on this forum and see a LOT of great ideas, but most are tweaks and small improvements to what is already a GREAT game.

But....here's your chance....

What is YOUR absolutely MIND-BLOWIN' (maybe off-the-wall) idea that would take DDSCB a WAY over the TOP ?

You don't have to program it, that's Gary's problem. :D

Not necessarily a mind blowing item, but I would like to see dynamic conference schedules. Where you are playing different teams each season, not just switching the home and away. I tend to play in the PAC 12 (at least for a little while longer), I would like to see that the teams I play twice change each year.

While playing out games, it would be nice to see players size differences be a little more reflective (height, weight). Would help of in game changes, as needed.

Maybe some media interaction (assuming it is not the same questions each time).

Just a couple off the top of my head.

Presently there are 3 main components to playing DDSCB: recruiting; game play; and transfer sessions.

It’s time to add a 4th component and that is: Development of a complex and robust personal issues component affecting players and coaches (presently there is only a very limitred aspect of this component).

This would involve injuries, health issues, accidents, personal relationships/issues, team chemistry, and ethical/legal issues and ways to try to resolve them. Most of these would be rare occurrences and unexpected but could also be things that develop and if not handled well become aggravated. For example personal relationships/issues could be dealt with so that they are defused or even result in improvements to players and team chemistry, could just fade away on their own without any action taken to resolve them, or bloom so that they might affect team chemistry or turn into ethical/legal issues. Most health issues would resolve themselves at some point, but others could affect other players/coaches or cause a player to be more susceptible to certain injuries. Some accidents and health issues would affect just a single player or coach, but more rarely there could be issues that might affect multiple players or coaches. There could be a wide range of possible affects to a player.

The game should provide a variety of alternative ways for the human player and the AI (for teams not controlled by a human) to try to attempt to address issues. Sometimes the results of these efforts should improve the situation, other times not affect it at all, and yet other times aggravate the situation.

Then make these player and coach issues show up in a vibrant NEWS section that will be exciting and interesting enough to make most all game players want to review it each week so they will know what’s going on throughout the entire association.

This is a realistic component of coaching a team, so development of this aspect would expand DDSCB in a whole new direction. In real life within most any team there is something going on that affects the team most every week...most often minor, but sometimes major (and continuing).

Some possible examples:

Two players injured in a car accident…one out for 4 weeks and the other out for a week. How do you compensate for their loss with your lineup?

Player arrested for a DUI. Do you ignore it or suspend the player?

An assistant coach who has a significant injury or health issue could affect the team, e.g. the scouting coach is injured in a car accident that prevents him from scouting for a period of time…the team responds by doing what they can, but it’s a lesser quality scouting effort and therefore the results are less accurate.

Head coach comes down with the flu and has to miss the next game…therefore the game player must sim the game rather than playing it out.

Player has family issue that requires him to be with his family for a week. Does the coach do anything to try to buoy his spirits? If not (or even if the coach tries), does the player go into a funk that causes his performance to deteriorate for a period of time?

Player is accused by a female coed of improprieties…what does the coach do? Does this blossom into a major issue?

Assistant coach (recruiting assistant) is suspected of possibly doing something illegal or unethical related to recruiting. Does the head coach just let it go or does he do something and if so, what? Does that resolve the issue? Or does the NCAA investigate? If the NCAA does investigate, are any actions taken against the team or is it found that the allegation was not true and the case is dropped?

Several players on a team have a blowout party with a suspicion of improprieties (drugs, alcohol, sex, whatever)…what does the coach do? How does that impact the players and team chemistry?

Team chemistry is in the dumps….what does the coach do to try to improve it? (talks, party, suspensions, etc, etc).

I'd love to see more in depth player development. And to have recommendations along those lines coming from your practice coach. That coach might also recommend adjusting the amount of team practice given to each set based on player development and success rates.

Being able to set up practices to address areas where you can hone in on individual players.

Have a guy that can't hit free throws or three pointers give him extra work shooting?

Have a guy who is great on offense but commits too many fouls, footwork and defensive positioning.

Or maybe you just want to get a guy in to work on rebounding.

Things along those lines.

I know this wouldn't be for everyone so maybe it could just be something that gets assigned to your practice coach.

There is little if anything a coach can do to improve players' defensive abilities. That would be big for me.

Barks, or speech/emotion bubbles above the players heads that are determined by their personality. Things like a 3 point symbol when they hit a trey, or "good pass", "switch", "bad call ref", "he can't guard me", or a scream symbol after a dunk. Same thing for the coach who is now also animated on the sideline, "get back on defense", "hold for one shot", "no fouls on this possession".

OK Guys...I'm going to bundle all these up and send them on to Gary after Aug 31...so get your thinking caps in gear and add your ideas prior to that.
