Offense Strategy?

Offense Strategy?

Postby Mike33 » Sat Mar 19, 2022 5:55 pm

I'm starting a new career and was wondering how do you guys handle offensive set usage? I tend to set it high until I have decent players that are better then the rest of the conference. Also how many sets do you guys use. I'll use 2 for my offense so one is usually 70 then the other is set at 30? Should I have a third one? What about on the defensive side of the ball. I usually have man to man as my main one then 2 zones. On full court I usually do man to man and then 1-2-1-1.

I use 2 sets on O, usually either Motion 57%, flex 43% (which works out to 20 min. and 15 min. of practice time), or Princeton for 20 min., Triangle for 15 min. It's always 2 of those 4, but which two is usually based on what the team has played in the past.
On D I am going more and more to man-to-man. I now use it 75% of the time with the rest of the time split between 2-3 and either 3-2 or 1-2-2. I devote 10 min. of practice time to man-to-man press.

I usually run 30 offensive sets, about 90% of the time. Usually Motion, Princeton, Shuffle in that order.

On D, I run man 90% of the time and 1-2-2 the rest.

If I am playing with a lower level team like Bucknell or Bellarmine, I usually go heavy on zone. Usually 50/50 2-3Z and 1-2-2z on the theory that the opponent doesn't practice as much on attacking the zone. When I'm in the BE or B10 like I am now at St John's, I run 75% Man. I'm also exclusively the Half Court trap for my press.

On Offense, it entirely depends on what kind of talent I have. Right now I have a bunch of 80-90 Jump shooters, so I am trying to develop the team to play 5 out. Until they are comfortable with it, I'm running mostly motion and or triangle.
