Redshirting

Redshirting

Postby ajmh » Wed Aug 31, 2022 6:37 pm

Any thought of changing the game so that it just auto redshirts any player who doesn't play in a particular number of games and has redshirt year available?

That is basically what the changes to the NCAA redshirt rules does.

Doing the redshirts for more than 1 team can get pretty tedious.

In that same vein, rather than any thought of allowing for a little more subtlety and options in what tasks are AI controlled and which are player controlled?

Not for CF 23. We'll wait and see how the changing NCAA landscape affects things like redshirts and transfer portals and will make adjustments in the future.

Current NCAA rules allow for a player to play in as many as 4 games and still redshirt (it has been this way for a few years now). Basically, redshirting no longer has to be determined before the season. More and more it is determined at the end of the season based on how many games a player actually played in with 4 games being the max a player can play in and still redshirt.

Yup, it's really difficult to discern which of those rules were to accommodate for covid and which are going to be more permanent. So for now we're happy with the stage for redshirting... but it's always possible we can add some config options in a patch that allows for this kind of change.

I believe the redshirt rules changed beginning with the 2018 season before Covid was a thing. Pretty certain that is a long-term change to how red-shirting works.

Change was implemented before the 2018-19 season.
It was well before the pandemic and the change had nothing to do with the pandemic.
It is here to stay.

Fair enough, I guess the easiest thing is to move the redshirt stage to the end of the season... and anyone who hasn't redshirted yet, and hasn't played 4 games, lights up and the rest are disabled.

I think it would be best to have 2 redshirting stages, instead of just one at the end of the season, as otherwise players that you might want to redshirt at the start of the season could cause trouble during the season as they are not playing.

Already moved for a patch. It makes it easier to use since you just play who you want during the season and anyone who doesn't get into a game, or enough games, will just be available to redshirt at the end. At that point you tag them and take the risk of them transferring.
