First game depth charts blank?

Depth charts before my first game are empty. And I don't see an obvious way to fill them, even by CPU. Is that intentional? It isn't a huge deal, as my first game is usually against a cupcake and I can set depth charts after that. But I can't imagine this is intended. Pls clarify, thanks!

There is a button to have the coach set the depth chart for you if you don't wish to manually change them.
