Promotion/Relegation Leagues and Board Expectations

I have a few suggestions for the Promotion/Relegation setup. I like to run one of these sometimes.

I would like to see a unique set of expectations from the board for promotion/relegation leagues. Things like don't get relegated, finish top half of conference, and earn promotion.

Another option I would like to see is changing the conference schedule. With a 16 game schedule I have seen 5 or 6 way ties for first place. I would prefer to see an 18 or even 20 game schedule because the conference record is extra important in a promotion/relegation league.

I also wonder what would happen if there 14 teams per conference with only 3 each being promoted and relegated

Finally, sometimes the board will say win the conference championship and make it to the NIT. This does not really make sense. Also, for lower prestige teams I think there are situations where the goal might be to make it to the CBI or CIT.
