Ease of modding

Is DDSCF25 easy to mod? I know the game notes that it can be easily customized. But, for example, could I turn this into how the 1995 NCCA looked, with those conferences, number of bowl games and tie-ins, no playoff, etc.?

"Easy" is a relative word, as that depends on the person and skills doing it. The tools are available using a combination of in-game options (i.e. playoff settings, etc.) and various custom files you can edit/create to create your own custom league. Outside of the ease, is the effort required which could take some time depending on what you are customizing. I am not familiar with exactly how the 1995 season looked in real life, but I suspect you could get close. Things to consider.

Teams.xml - Need to create this file to represent all the teams in the league, conferences, and link to the various graphic files (fields, logos, endzones, etc.).
Bowls.xml - This is the file you would need to edit to create your bowl season structure. It can get a little complicated to align things and not sure it can represent real world 100%, but close enough for me. Also with bowls, you can create specific fields and logos and such.
Weather.xml - If you want the typical weather conditions of the fields you include, you'll need to ensure have weather info for the cities.
Graphics - You have the ability to create various logos, fields, jerseys, endzones, which you would do using a graphics program of your choice.
Schedule - You do have the ability to create custom schedules, where you could create a schedule to represent 1995.
etc.

So bottom line, the capability is there to get close, but whether hard or not is based on the person doing it but definitely can be time consuming.

What's the best way to mod bowls? I have an existing league, when I sim my league the bowls are the game's original, not my modified one.

That usually means the Bowls.xml file is not located in the correct folder, it should be something like C:\Users\<<insert Username>>\Documents\Wolverine Studios\DDSCF 2025. But keep in mind, this exact location depends on where you actually have your documents folder, some have on different drives, while others have on OneDrive.

In the future, could we please get a way to mod bowl games in-game without messing with the XML file? Or at least an in-game way to see what our bowl games are modded to? As of now, the only way to tell what we have (and verify we didn’t do anything to mess up the bowls XML file) is to play thru until the bowl week and see what gets scheduled.

The original Bowls XML keeps loading instead of my mod file. I believe I'm in the correct folder.

As mentioned, if the modded Bowls.xml file is not loading into your newly created leagues (must create new league after Bowls.xml is in correct folder), the number one reason this happens is because the file is not in the correct file. I have been providing the Realworld mod for years, which includes custom files such as Teams.xml and Bowls.xml and every time someone has reported not seeing the custom information in the game it was because they weren't putting the files in the correct folder. In a number of cases, initially the people were convinced they were putting the files in the correct folder, but eventually confirmed indeed they were not. With that said, there certainly is a possibility your facing some other unique situation and if that is the case, must be something wrong with the data in your Bowls.xml file. Only way can help with that is for you to attach your Bowls.xml file to these posts to see if I can load myself.

The reason people think they have the file in the correct folder but sometimes not really is because the location of the documents folder can be in different places for everyone depending on the configuration of your computer. Some people move their documents folder from c: to another drive like d:. Others have their documents folder on OneDrive, which many computers have as a default nowadays. Therefore, if you don't know for sure where your documents folder is, you might not be putting the file in the correct location.

Here are some common places it could be, but certainly could be elsewhere depending on your setup but hopefully gives you some ideas.

C:\Users\<<user name>>\Documents\Wolverine Studios\DDSCF 2025
D:\Users\<<user name>>\Documents\Wolverine Studios\DDSCF 2025
E:\Users\<<user name>>\Documents\Wolverine Studios\DDSCF 2025
F:\Users\<<user name>>\Documents\Wolverine Studios\DDSCF 2025
C:\Users\<<user name>>\OneDrive\Documents\Wolverine Studios\DDSCF 2025

One way you can use to confirm the location of your documents folder (which the game uses), follow these instructions.

1) Open up Windows explorer
2) Find your Documents folder
3) Right-Click on the Documents folder
4) When menu displays, choose Properties
5) At the top, choose the Location tab and you'll see the screen below. This will show you the actual location of your document folder. I blurred out my username so you would substitute that with what you see. Once you have that information, then the Bowls.xml folder must be placed in that folder. Using myself as an example, you see "D:\Users\<<user name>>\Documents\", you would then combine that with "Wolverine Studios\DDSCF 2025", which gets you the folder of "D:\Users\<<user name>>\Documents\Wolverine Studios\DDSCF 2025", that is were the file needs to be placed before you create your new league.
