Start as an expansion team?

Quick question - can you start a new career - as an expansion team? It's oftentimes fun in these types of games to start from "scratch".

You can but you have to sim the first season because there is only one date in the game calendar when expansion can take place so start a career and do not choose a team for yourself, simulate through the season and then on the dropdown where you see your player's name on the left side change to commissioner mode and you will see where you can setup the expansion and on what game date you can do it.
