My curiousity has me wondering how most are applying/configuring their leagues, primarily along the limited financial front. This game has come a long long way from it's early PFS days and from my vantage point still holds a lot of potential and promise. There are a few things I long for but the one that stands out for me now as a glaring miss is the lack of a comprehensive "built in" financial system. Yes, the game allows you to create and initial system highlighted by a CAP ceiling and various position thresholds as well as RFA, etc. I find it's simplification to be a limitation, but thats me. I have had discussions with Brooks and appreciate his intent to keep the game "fun" and to that end the financials play a role but are not heavily altered from one release to the next. Again, for me, I find that an in depth and fluid financial system should be just as importatnt as drafting, play callings, roster management, etc. As it is the financials add little to no drama and come across as placeholders to create a feeling of being challenged with little impact. Again, my opinion.
So I am curious as to how others configure their settings to try and create more difficulty and increased challenges along lines of the financials.
Me -
During the initial setup I look at altering the CAP ceiling to create a challenge. If I want to try a historical or earlier starting point I will use the CAP and position settings I have in a spreadsheet I created using NFL CAP numbers from previous seasons and position min/max based off of the games default "percentage" of CAP. The intent is to make it restricted from the start.
Right now I bounce back and forth on using RFA. If I do I will ensure it reflects whatever CAP adjustment I have made.
Once the league is formatted I go to t he options financial screens and ensure my CAP settings held and will make the following selections:
Unselect - Exceed CAP for Extensions
Select - Force Strict CAP (Although even with this selected teams will struggle since they likely exceeded the CAP setting when either drafting or with teams rosters set and moving into FA during the intial league setup.)
BROOKS - Any consideration to having the options financial screen as part of the initial league setup? As it is teams will make a number of contract changes following a league setup followed by the changes on the option screen leading to all kinds of CAP and roster issues.
Contract Penalties - I try to make this have an impact. Player release - 40% / Release Player Signing Bonus - 60% / Retiring Player Penalty - 25% / Fire Coach - 40%.
Salary Ranges - I have started trying to tweak these to follow the impact but am interested if others have.
Non Financial - One thing I do for sure is set the Max Experience for PS to 55. Hoping to keep from hoarding starters on the practice squad.
