D2 Transfers

I like the addition of the D2 transfers but could it be possible to add computer generated stats for them that somewhat match their ability? Given the way scouting works in the game, searching for possible transfers relies on statistics or previous recruiting knowledge. If we cannot have stats, would a general or star transfer rating system make sense?

The reason there are not stats is because at that point the season has rolled over so no player has stats in his current values so the stats you see are being pulled from the database of last year's stats and there are obviously no stats for those D2 transfers as they did not exist in the game. Also if stats were displayed for the D2 guys they would be, as you said, entirely made up and they wouldn't be "equal" to D1 stats so I think it would just be more confusion than anything.

At first I didn't necessarily like that there was no information on the D2 guys but then I felt that was realistic. You wouldn't know anything about them as a coach and even if you knew their stats you would discount them because they were D2 players and then you can perform the actions on them in the game to get info on them as you would any other player you didn't know so I think for now it works well but I am open to any ideas that might make sense to give you some kind of starting point on them.

I haven’t gotten that far but is there any kind of D2 rating for a player specific to the pool of D2 talent? For example SG Joe Smoe is the #12 rated D2 SG available etcccc

The D2's really were added so there'd be enough players in the Transfer Portal for the AI (especially for low prestige programs) to be able to fill rosters and not have a bunch of walk-ons...and it's working! AI controlled teams at low prestige colleges no longer are filled with walk-ons.

It's easy enough for the human game player to land a Division 1 player to make it unlikely you need to dip into the D2's.

I guess my question then is if there are really good players that come out of the D2 transfer pool or are they primarily filler for lower level teams?

I have no idea since I've never added a D2 player from the Transfer Portal.

Not sure if anyone is willing to do this, but in the emails reporting the players transferring during each of the transfer portal sessions, players who came from Division II are clearly indicated and show where they went....so after playing out the season, someone could see how those Division II players performed.

I would totally be interested in checking that out, but unfortunately it'll be a hot minute before I'm decently into season 2 of a save at the moment. If nobody else beats me to it though, I'll share what I find, probably in a couple weeks.

GREAT! Look forward to seeing your results.

In the association I have going right now, I looked thru the lists for the last few transfer sessions. While lower prestige programs were picking up some D2 players in sessions 7, 8 and 9, I noted that some high power programs got some D2's in the last transfer session. I sort of doubt those guys will get any playing time, just bench warmers to fill out a final spot on their rosters rather than have a 3rd walk-on. But I suspect at least some of the D2's going to low prestige (and maybe even a few midmajor) programs could get some decent playing time and be pretty productive.

Another question on D2 transfers is I am looking for a PG in the transfer portal and as my team is a low level team (Sacramento State) I thought I would look at D2 transfers but noticed that out of every D2 PG transfer (guessing 25 or so) all of them just have high majors in their top 5 (like Duke, Kentucky, Florida, etc.). Seemed odd to me as I would think very few would be good enough for high majors. I don't know yet how many of them will sign with a high major as I just started the process.

Yeah, this may be that Gary decided to just let them all indicate that initially rather than having the CPU make up something more realistic for the start of the transfer portal. But once the sessions begin rolling through, i see that the D2 players' top 5 lists become much more realistic (since the top dog programs are likely not giving them the time of day). If Duke ain't calling you and doesn't even know your name, but the North Eaton Pilots are rolling out the red carpet for you, drop Duke outta your top 5 and put North Eaton up near the top.
