Recruiting and in season texting choices

Recruiting and in season texting choices

Postby cdawds70 » Wed Mar 26, 2025 12:42 pm

I really enjoy where this game is headed.
I have been playing since 2020, both CFB and CBB.
During that "dead space" between the end of July and the beginning of August, when you can begin to visit recruits, there is nothing to do but watch film, and this seems to be the time when other schools make thier push as well and I have no response. It would be nice to have that choice to send a text or have some ability to connect with that recruit and keep momentum.

How are you all dealing with that?

2nd question is along the same lines.
During the season, there just aren't enough positive interactions between the coach and players.
Texting and meetings are all designed to correct negative behaviors, with 1 option only to encourage, develop, or train.
The team morale has become a much more dynamic part of the game, and personalities seem to play a large part in this as well.
That would be an interesting choice to have during recruiting, to be able to gauge a personality before choosing to make an offer, since we can't help that along once they are already on the team.

Again, interested thoughts and ideas.

Thanks!

Re July/August recruiting activity: I text recruits to get as much info as possible about the level of their aspects of interest (play near home, academics, money, playing time, etc, etc), try to get recruits to visit campus (3 per week), scout individual recruits when possible, check how things went at summer camps, and review notes that are added for individual recruits..all aimed at trying to develop/increase their level of interest in my college. Also sometimes I will offer scholarships early (before September). So for me it's a busy period of time during when I'm not only able to build interest in recruits (and drop recruits from my list who don't like my college) but also prioritize those I want to pursue so that I'll know who to visit at their homes and what my pitch to them will be. Meanwhille the AI is doing similar activities in its own way.

I agree that it would be good to have further development related to working with players, having more specitic issues rising within them which we have to decide whether to try to respond to, and having a greater variety of actions to take with them (which can help sometimes help and other times make things worse) That's an area of DDSCB that could be developed to a much greater degree.

Thanks for the reply.

I usually hone in on the main recruits early on, and unless i lose one of them, I have locked in and i dont waste the budget to keep throwing money at people I'm not interested in.... usually because I keep my recruiting budgets tight to spend more on facilities to make u pfor what the board won't spend...

There is only one dead week in there (Jul 17-23) and the AI teams have the same abilities as you do. The recruits on your call list will get called, you can watch film and then you can use the option on the recruit card to use your time to contact the recruit and find out specific info you want to know for the contact period in September so you can make the right pitch to the recruit (assuming your school is good at whatever is the right pitch category)

During the season, there just aren't enough positive interactions between the coach and players.

The positive interactions are sort of just taken for granted as the relationship will increase over the course of the year (or remains at 100% if its maxed). I suppose I could eventually add like random emails like the opposite of player altercations where it says Joe Smith had a great week this week in practice or something like that - it wouldn't really change anything but just be something for you to see.

That would be an interesting choice to have during recruiting, to be able to gauge a personality before choosing to make an offer, since we can't help that along once they are already on the team.

I will tell you why its not like this - the personality system in the game is not as specialized as it is in the pro game (because there are so many more players and also you only have a certain pool of players you can get especially at a smaller school) so the players don't have a personality type. Instead there are certain players (at random) they may clash with which you aren't going to know that until those guys get together just like in real life. However if you place the player on your call list you do get notes on them each week and you can get notes on his overall personality so you could get a general read on a guy to whether or not he might cause problems if you look through your notes on him. I also think that's a pretty realistic way to handle it - you can't watch film or get stats on the kind of person he is and even with an interaction here or there it might be a bad day for the kid or he might be just putting on a good act for talking to you as the coach but that's not how he really is and you really don't know what his personality is going to be like until he's there with your team and away from his home environment so I think how it works is pretty good but as always I am willing to listen to ideas on it but that's the basis of how it is done and why I chose to do it that way.

So, after the official "dead week" I usually have all my visits comepleted, I have asked all the text questions, etc and am just left watching film and letting the calls happen, I may approach it differently, and per your response about budgets, I may re-think how I spend both my money and time.

The enouragement feature during the season for players would be useful for those weeks where your player had a bad week and needs a little boost, or after he has an altercation and agrees to try harder, you can cricle back and say thank you, or whatever language you want to add, it would make that part a little more immersive. I might be the only one who really like the interaction with players, but it gets boring when ther eis nothing nice to say... ;)

The personality part makes perfect sense now, thanks! I forget that there is a lot more information in the weekly notes and need to pay better attention there as well to sus out the finer details.

Thanks!
