Coaches Salaries

Coaches Salaries

Postby cdawds70 » Wed Mar 26, 2025 1:08 pm

Also, I am the coach of the Ohio State Buckeyes, have won 3 Natty's in 9 years with them and just got a $28,000 raise to $588,000.

Seems like bad negotiating on my part, but there is not a choice for me to negotiate my contracts like I do with my staff... there are no choices, or I am missing something that allows me to ask for more than facilities upgrades, more budget (which is like pulling teeth), and more time.

Is anyone else seeing this as well?

For background, when I was named coach at OSU, coming from Wake Forest, I was handed a $560k salary which was about $200k more than I was making at WF.

Is this an algorythm thing?

Thanks!

Another member of the community brought up to me the topic of coach salaries in the game and sent me some useful data which I will be using to overhaul this in the future. I agree that the numbers are low for salaries but two things to note on this. 1) the head coach salary means nothing in the game - its purely a cosmetic thing so yes I probably should build in not only an algorithm that leans more on factors like that and less just on the overall prestige of the school but the head coach salary should be able to be negotiated and part of the program budget. It possibly could even impact your prestige - if you get overpaid maybe your coach prestige would go up, if you take less than market value it would go down - that sort of thing. 2) the budgets are built to work with the algorithms that exist now for asst. coach salaries so that will end up being just multiplying all the numbers so as it doesn't change the mechanics of how things work (plus increasing the budget to account for the head coach as well).

To your comment on getting a budget increase...are you exhausting your current budget? I tell people this each year but if you're not spending the full budget you will not get an increase because the board doesn't see why you need an increase if you don't spend what you have so go to more camps, pay the assistants better, put more into the amenities - do whatever you can to spend it before asking for an increase.

Gary
Thank you for the reply and the detail. I usually have a few bucks left over each year, but that makes sense to just spend it out..lol

Yeah, I think I view the head coach salary more as a prestige item for myself, and based off of real life salaries I see being paid. However, I beleive that the college football game already has this feature, and thought 2023's basketball game did have the opportunity to negotiate new contracts, and extensions etc...

I continue to look forwrad to where this game goes, I thnk you are doing tremendous work!

Thank you - the coach salary part of the game has never had an impact or been anything you could negotiate but I do have it now on my list of items to look at as part of redoing the financial world in the future
