As a long-time lurker who's been following this for a while now I thought I'd drop in and join the congrats. It's been a really fun read watching you turn the Raps round, here's hoping this team can grab a few more.

Thanks for the kind words guys. It's my first ever NBA championship in PB2 so it was special to do it in a dynasty. We can't rest for long, the whole league is gunning for us now.

A look back at the players that made the first ever Canadian NBA championship possible –

#19 Kenny Costa, PG, Rookie, Wake Forest
Stats – did not play
Acquired by – draft
Costa didn’t get any playing time in the NBA this year as he was the starting PG for the Idaho Buckaroos in the NBDL. That doesn’t mean that he will be down there for long as the Raptors have big plans for him in a few years.

#20 Earl Watson, PG, 13 year pro, UCLA
Stats – 26 games, 8.8 minutes, 2.0 points, 0.7 rebounds, 1.3 assists, 0.1 steals, 0.0 blocks
Acquired by – free agency
Although Watson didn’t play much time he did have some good games off the bench. He had numerous six assist games as well as scoring around 7 or 8 in a few games.

#31 Shane Battier, SG, 13 year pro, Duke
Stats – 31 games, 5.9 minutes, 3.2 points, 0.6 rebounds, 0.3 assists, 0.2 steals, 0.3 blocks
Acquired by – free agency
This championship year wasn’t about being on the floor for Battier, it was more about being there for the team and being a great role model. And he succeeded beautifully. Being the elder statesman of the team he regaled the team about how only five years ago the Raptors were the laughing stock of the league and about the great turnaround. Two years ago he started every game for the Raptors.

#24 Hasssan Trivuncic, SF, 2 year pro, Bosnia
Stats – 50 games, 2 starts, 5.2 minutes, 1.9 points, 1.0 rebound, 0.4 assists, 0.1 steals, 0.0 blocks
Acquired by – trade with San Antonio
The joker of the team, he is always there for a joke and a prank. Most of his team will agree that his jokes are funnier because most of the time they can’t understand him on account of his thick Bosnian accent. In addition to Kenny Costa, the Raptors’ future looks bright.

#44 Chuck Hayes, C, 9 year pro, Kentucky
Stats – 49 games, 8.0 minutes, 2.8 points, 2.2 rebounds, 0.4 assists, 0.3 steals, 0.1 blocks
Acquired by – free agency
Fun fact – Hayes had 4 blocks this season which is double the amount of blocks that the two inch taller Kevin King has in his entire career. Even though Hayes gives up a whopping seven inches to Tim Mozgov he is ferocious in his training play and has been credited with bringing out the ‘mongrel’ in Mozgov which has helped him this year.

#5 Andrew Norwood, PG, 3 year pro, Oregon State
Stats – 55 games, 8.8 minutes, 3.4 points, 0.7 rebounds, 1.6 assists, 0.2 steals, 0.1 blocks
Acquired by – trade with Orlando
Norwood is the perfect team player. He is loyal, motivated, crazy work ethic and an all around great guy. He doesn’t have the most talent on the team but the battles between him and Rajon Rondo are always talked about. The other thing that is talked about Andrew Norwood is that although he is only 6’3, 160lbs he eats as much if not more than Dwight Howard.

#53 Matt Simpson, C, 3 year pro, High Point
Stats – 65 games, 2 starts, 13.2 minutes, 3.6 points, 3.4 rebounds, 0.7 assists, 0.3 steals, 0.2 blocks
Acquired by – free agency
Picked up after the Raptors traded for Dwight Howard and had to give up their best bench big man, Kris Humphries, there was huge pressure on Simpson to hold the fort for the second unit. And boy did he, teaming up with Ed Davis to form a fantastic bench frontcourt rotation that would beat up the second units of other teams. Too bad he can’t shoot free throws, going .475 for the season, but being 7’2 you can excuse that as he has dustbin lids for hands.

#22 Trent Bailey, SG, 2 year pro, LSU
Stats – 75 games, 5 starts, 14.0 minutes, 5.5 points, 1.0 rebound, 2.3 assists, 0.5 steals, 0.0 blocks
Acquired by – draft
In a shrewd move by the Raptors they stole the Cleveland Cavaliers first round pick which eventually ended by being #5 pick Trent Bailey. He has oodles of talent but most of all he has wonderful patience. While his draft mates are playing big minutes for lesser teams he has gritted his teeth and came off the bench for some great play backing up Rajon Rondo and Reggie Williams.

#10 DeMar DeRozan, SG, 5 year pro, USC
Stats – 75 games, 16 starts, 17.4 minutes, 8.3 points, 1.8 rebounds, 0.9 assists, 0.5 steals, 0.1 blocks
Acquired by – draft
One of only two players who were on the team before GM Felix Elwood took over; he started every game last year for the Raptors. As soon as Reggie Williams joined the team DeRozan took him aside and told Williams that he has his back and will support him through and through. A slashing guard, he can put up huge numbers off the bench with his high flying antics which amaze the other players at training. Apparently he has a dunk so spectacular; he needs two wine barrels, a ring of fire and a crocodile. No, we haven’t seen the dunk either.

#32 Ed Davis, PF, 4 year pro, North Carolina
Stats – 82 games, 8 starts, 19.0 minutes, 8.5 points, 4.3 rebounds, 0.8 assists, 0.5 steals, 1.8 blocks
Acquired by – draft
The other player from the original team, Davis has been the glue that has kept this team together. A phenomenal shot blocker averaging 3.4 blocks per 36 minutes. Would be a starter on most teams, he has swallowed his pride and it has paid dividends.

#35 Reggie Williams, SF, 5 year pro, VMI
Stats – 82 games, 77 starts, 32.0 minutes, 14.6 points, 3.4 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 1.0 steals, 0.4 blocks
Acquired by – trade with Orlando
Started out of position at SG he caused problems for smaller guards with his size and strength. Coming over after being instrumental in Orlando’s championship run he brought ferocity and a killer instinct to the team, as well as a deadly shooting streak.

#49 Tim Mozgov, C, 4 year pro, Russia
Stats – 79 games, 77 starts, 31.5 minutes, 14.2 points, 8.6 rebounds, 1.3 assists, 0.8 steals, 2.7 blocks
Acquired by – trade with New York
There haven’t been many big men combinations better than the Mozgov/Howard one with opposing teams having all types of trouble getting past them. Another player who could be a star on another team he knows what it takes to get a championship and has given the keys to Dwight Howard to drive the team. Some experts have even said that if Mozgov was the go-to guy on a team he would be an All-Star.

#42 Dwight Howard, C, 10 year pro, High School
Stats – 77 games, 77 starts, 19.9 points, 11.7 rebounds, 1.5 assists, 1.1 steals, 3.8 blocks
Acquired by – trade with Orlando
Coming over in the superstar trade brought this team together and made them a complete team. Three time league MVP and four time Defensive Player of the Year Howard is a man mountain. In previous years he had a rivalry with the Toronto Raptors after some heated playoffs series and some barbed words for GM Felix Elwood, but since coming to Canada he has been welcomed with open arms and has responded in kind.

#28 Kevin King, SF, 3 year pro, Syracuse
Stats – 77 games, 77 starts, 39.0 minutes, 23.5 points, 5.1 rebounds, 4.2 assists, 1.9 steals, 0.0 blocks
Acquired by – draft
As soon as King was draft #1 three years ago, the fortunes of the Toronto Raptors changed. He is the complete package at only 23 years old. He is one of the best scorers in the league; he is also a willing passer and a great rebounder and defender. The only thing he is poor at is shot blocking, but when you have Dwight Howard, Tim Mozgov and Ed Davis he has a little excuse. Has been on the All-NBA first and second teams already. The sky is the limit for this guy.

#18 Rajon Rondo (Captain), PG, 8 year pro, Kentucky
Stats – 77 games, 77 starts, 36.3 minutes, 12.7 points, 3.6 rebounds, 10.5 assists, 1.9 steals, 0.1 blocks
Acquired by – trade with Boston
A captain that would lay down his body for his team. He leads by example and will take nothing less than perfection from his team. He is a terrible shooter by with a lightning quick step can get to the rim at will. One statistic that stands out is that in the five years he has been in Toronto he has averaged 10.6 assists and only 1.6 turnovers a game for a 6.6 A/T ratio. Makes up for the heartbreak of last season’s first round exit with interest.

Coach Rudy Tomjanovich, 65 years old, 65-17
Rudy T adds to his championship collection which contains rings from 1994 and 1995 with the Houston Rockets. He has brought his own unique coaching style that swings from joking to yelling and back again in an instant and has gained the respect from all his players.

#1 Assistant – Kim Hughes, 61 years old
#2 Assistant – Jim Todd, 58 years old
#3 Assistant – Alvin Williams, 40 years old
General Manager – Felix Elwood, 42 years old

New York – After a massive twelve months of voting and campaigning for the 2016 NBA expansion teams the number of cities was cut down to four at the start of the playoffs. Seattle, San Diego, Honolulu and Pittsburgh were all in the running for a new team to compete in the 2016 National Basketball Association. But now we are at the end of the playoffs and the two teams that will be awarded a franchise have been selected.

Drum roll please...

The first city to be awarded an NBA franchise is –

Seattle!

[Experts take] – Seattle were pretty much guaranteed a selection after topping the voting and having most of the infrastructure needed for a team, as well as a huge fan base. Fans of the Supersonics were shocked that their team was moving to Oklahoma City and have been campaigning ever since for another shot and now they have that opportunity. It is more than likely that the original Supersonics name will be used again here, as well as the Green and Yellow colour scheme that everyone is accustomed to. Congratulations Seattle, and make the most of it.

Well done Seattle. And the second and final city to be awarded an NBA franchise is –

Honolulu!

[Experts take] – Wow! What a shocker! The massive underdog has prevailed as most pundits were expecting San Diego to get the second spot. I did hear a rumour that the NBA were uneasy about giving out a fifth Californian franchise and have given it to a city over 4000 miles away from New York. This will be the first time in the major professional sports that a non-mainland US state has been given a team. Let’s hope they don’t screw this up because Alaska would never get a team. We are pulling for you Honolulu but the pressure is on.

There you have it, the two teams that will be competing for an NBA title beginning in 2016. We only have one more season until these teams arrive and their nicknames, colours and players will be revealed at the 2016 expansion draft.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

More big news as we have just heard that the Atlanta Hawks have been sold to an organisation from none other than Las Vegas. Some writers were perplexed as why Las Vegas was not one of the cities chosen in the final four of the expansion competition and now we know why. The team will be re-located to Las Vegas and will be called the Nevada Neon and will be slotted into the Southwest Division. To balance out the divisions, the Memphis Grizzlies are coming out of the Southwest division and moving East into Atlanta’s old Southeast division.

While some people have seen this as a surprising move most people have seen Atlanta’s dwindling attendance records, the worst in the league by a far margin, and their atrocious win loss record which is in the bottom few in the league as catalysts for moving the team.

Some thought that the move would have come from Los Angeles, with rumblings that the Clippers want to get out of the Lakers shadow and move into their own city and build a history there but that has been denied by owner David Silver.

I have just been informed that the move will happen after the draft, so when you see Atlanta in the draft the players will be going to Las Vegas.

Lottery time!

14 – Orlando (0)
13 – Boston (0)
12 – Indiana (0)
11 – Memphis (0)
10 – Los Angeles Clippers (0)
9 – San Antonio (0)
8 – New Orleans (0)
7 – Milwaukee (-1)

The Lakers have jumped.

6 – Cleveland (-1)
5 – New Orleans (-3)

Big drop with two teams going above the Hornets.

4 – Atlanta (Nevada) (-3)

Ouch for the new team.

3 – Denver (+1)
2 – Cleveland (+1)
1 – Los Angeles Lakers (+6)

Some people would say that the NBA wants the Lakers to be good again, but for me it’s just luck.

Hopefully we pick up some awards at awards time.

Most Valuable Player:
Chris Paul, Philadelphia 76ers – 20.2 points, 9.8 assists, 4.0 rebounds, 1.6 steals, 0.0 blocks

Defensive Player of the Year:
Dwight Howard, Toronto Raptors – 19.9 points, 1.5 assists, 11.7 rebounds, 1.1 steals, 3.8 blocks

Sixth Man of the Year:
Varlam Bebutov, New York Knicks – 13.2 points, 5.1 assists, 3.2 rebounds, 1.0 steals, 0.0 blocks

Rookie of the Year:
Dexter Floyd, Milwaukee Bucks – 8.6 points, 1.4 assists, 10.6 rebounds, 0.7 steals, 3.2 blocks

Coach of the Year:
Erik Spoelstra, Miami Heat – 64-18 (.780)

Good to see Dwight getting DPoY but Rudy T is again looked over for COY to a guy who had a worse record and didn’t win the championship. Boo. The other awards I agree with.

All-NBA First Team:
Chris Paul, Philadelphia 76ers
Brandon Roy, Portland Trailblazers
Lebron James, Miami Heat
Blake Griffin, Orlando Magic
Dwight Howard, Toronto Raptors

All-NBA Second Team:
Deron Williams, Utah Jazz
Tyreke Evans, Sacramento Kings
Kevin Durant, Oklahoma City Thunder
Kevin Love, Minnesota Timberwolves
Andrew Bogut, Los Angeles Clippers

All-NBA Third Team:
Stephen Curry, Golden State Warriors
Kobe Bryant, Charlotte Bobcats
Kevin King, Toronto Raptors
Pau Gasol, San Antonio Spurs
Brook Lopez, New Jersey Nets

All Defense First Team:
Rajon Rondo, Toronto Raptors
Kobe Bryant, Charlotte Bobcats
Lebron James, Miami Heat
Blake Griffin, Orlando Magic
Dwight Howard, Toronto Raptors

All Defense Second Team:
Chris Paul, Philadelphia 76ers
Dwayne Wade, Miami Heat
Wesley Johnson, Philadelphia 76ers
Pau Gasol, San Antonio Spurs
Andrew Bogut, Los Angeles Clippers

It really shows that the superstars of the league can play both ends of the court as only three players in the All Defense teams are not in the All-NBA teams.

All Rookie First Team:
Jarret Griffin, New Orleans Hornets
Bootsy Nelson, Denver Nuggets
Jim Seymour, Boston Celtics
Kelvin Rivers, Detroit Pistons
Dexter Floyd, Milwaukee Bucks

All Rookie Second Team:
Garick Sharp, Memphis Grizzlies
Travis Spears, Boston Celtics
Emmett Cooper, Chicago Bulls
Reggie Young, Cleveland Cavaliers
Dion Roberts, Phoenix Suns

Not a very good draft last year, especially coming off the stellar one the year before.

I get a knock on my door a couple of days later and get bowled over by Mr Petway.
“We did it! Yahoo! I can’t believe we won the championship! Of course I had full faith in you all the time but now we have done it I’m over the moon! “
“We have a great team and a great coach, it was going to happen eventually.” I replied.
“Well, what about next year? I have the taste for winning and I want another one.” He said.
No pressure.
“I don’t see why we can’t win it again with the team we have, but with Kevin King becoming a free agent we might be paying more than usual.”
His eyes lost their glint.
“How much?” He asked with a low voice.
“Nothing over $10 million?” I half answered, half questioned.
“Make sure it’s not a penny over.” He replied.
And he was off. One good thing about Mr. Petway was he was never one to hang over a guy. He just wanted answers and he was off.

2015 NBA Draft Mock Draft
1 – Los Angeles Lakers – C Matt Bailey
2 – Cleveland – C Mike Ohnstad
3 – Denver – PF Joshua Potter
4 – Atlanta – PG Jermaine Carroll
5 – New Orleans – SG Kyle Craig
6 – Cleveland – SG Matt Davis
7 – Milwaukee – SG Estell Phillips
8 – New Orleans – PG Carlton Abrams
9 – San Antonio – PG Brian Iacona
10 – Los Angeles Clippers – SG Demond Neeser
11 – Memphis – PG Dana Moore
12 – Indiana – PG Cerrah Melen
13 – Boston – C MAXIME Videnov
14 – Orlando – SF Jason Thornton

Videnov WILL NOT go at 13, no way no how. I wouldn’t be surprised that he goes top 5 but this draft looks very guard heavy apart from the top.

If the figure is between 10 and 15 million over the cap, I am sure that you could safely spend the higher limit without repercussions. Meanwhile, in my own game, the Lakers are close to 50 million over the cap without winning a single championship and the owner's willingness to spend is merely average!

Wow I never knew that you could be so far over the cap with an owner like that. I figured that I could go to around $15mil but I always want to be on the safe side.

How is your game going? You are with the Celtics aren't you?
