They rebound. 0:19

Coulibaly with the block. We recover. Last time out. 0:01. Enough to hoist up a 3? Nope, we didn't get a shot. We go to OT

I noticed their backcourt is tired. I decided to full court press man. High risk high reward. Carr, Cook, and Griffin all have 4 PFs. Majerus has 3.

2:28 OT
Up 70-69. Coulibaly has scored on 2 jumpers, despite his shooting woes

They scored. Down 70-71. 2:15

I instructed Carr to shoot a 3. He couldn't get a shot. Passes to Cook instead who drove to the basket and slam dunk! Down 74-75. 0:54. No need to foul yet

We are doing a good job on D, not allowing them to get a good shot. Their shot clock will soon expire.

With 1 second on their shot clock, their starting PG who has not scored the entire game (31 mins PT), shoots up a 3 and SCORES!

Down 74-78. No TOs left. I just shouted to just look for 3s and foul immediately. Nothing I can do now. 0:13 left

We even turned it over on the ensuing play. We fouled. They scored 2 FTs. Granville hits a meaningless 3 at the buzzer

Final score: Sam Houston St - 77, Milwaukee - 80

Box Score
Granville: 16, 3, 3
Carr: 16, 3, 1
Cook: 12, 8, 1, 5-13 FG
Coulibaly: 12, 3, 2, 5-21 FG
Griffin: 9, 13, 1
Majerus: 6, 2, 3
Belton: 6, 5, 0

Johnson, Thomas, and Smith played a combined 23 mins. Their contributions: 0 pts, 0 rebs, 3 asts, 4 tos

Team Stats Comparisons
FG: 41% - 48% (but we are +10 in FGA)
REB: +3
TO: -1
Paint: +2
2nd Chance : +8
Fast Break: +4

Other Notes
- The above team stats showed we still played slightly a bit better than the opponent. My post game speech to the team is about the "little things", which can decide the outcome of the game. For example, keeping ourselves out of foul trouble, improving our FT shooting, executing our plays, the need for quality minutes from our bench ... we're 18-25 FT; if we made at least one of those misses, we could have won in regulation

When I exited the last game I had (against UCSD), the game can't proceed anymore at it just hanged on me for no apparent reason. Even after waiting for more than 10 mins, it is not yet responding. Tsk tsk ...

Having no other choice, I just had to restart the game. Fortunately, I was able to save prior to the UCSD game.

Not wanting to restart the game, even if its my 1st defeat in this association, what I did was just to sim the same game, until the result is a defeat on my team. The stats may not be the same as what I have written in the game report above, but at least the team results (W-L record) remain consistent

I may have to start implementing a rolling backup on my saved games from now on

I had to replay 2 games earlier today because of the bug i posted under the technical issues header. i was doubly stupid....forgot to save before the next game and then did something stupid to lose the next game as well.

Game #8

Postby randy » Sun Mar 03, 2013 4:29 am

12/9/93
NC Asheville (4-3) @ Sam Houston St (6-1)

Matchups
1: Equal
2: Equal
3: Equal
4: Sam Houston
5: Equal
B: Equal

Opp Off: Normal-paced, some freedom, 5-Out
Opp Def: Man to man, presses throughout

No one is scoring double figures on them. They average 19 3-PT attempts per game. They average 16 topg.

Tip off

15:45
Up 10-6. Their 2 FGs come form 3s. Switching to 1-2-2 zone

11:39
Up 21-13. We're shooting 56% FG. They have 7 TOs

7:35
Up 31-15. Majerus has 9 pts and 3 rebs off the bench. Will give Cook and Coulibaly a breather

Halftime
Up 48-29. They would have been annihilated by now, if not for their 5-7 shooting from 3-PT. I thrilled with our bench production so far; Majerus, Thomas, and Belton combined for 22 pts. We're +12 on fast break pts

15:18
Up 54-42. All of a sudden, they hit 3 3-PT shots, while we had a couple of TOs. Will bring back Majerus and Thomas

13:29
Up 61-45. We go on a mini-run. Thomas is now on double figures (10 pts). Cook has 16

3:52
Up 77-53. This is over except for the final score. Clear the bench. Slow down the game

Final score: UNCA - 70, Sam Houston St- 84

How we allow them to score 17 pts in the last 4 minutes baffles me.

Box Score
Cook: 22, 9, 2, 4 stls, 3 blks (*)
Carr: 18, 6, 0
Majerus: 11, 8, 2
Thomas: 10, 1, 2
Coulibaly: 6, 4, 3, 3 stls
Griffin: 6, 0, 0
Belton: 4, 2, 3
Smith: 3, 0, 0
Waddell: 2, 0, 0
Johnson: 2, 2, 4
Granville: 0, 3, 6

Team Stats Comparisons
FG: 57% - 48%
REB: +21 (UNCA only had 14)
TO: -2 (it was a TO party; 15 for us, 17 for them)
Paint: +16
2nd Chance : +4
Fast Break: +7

Other Notes
- UNCA was 15-24 3-PT. We didn't play particularly well defending the perimeter, even if we went 1-2-2 zone almost the whole game. Probably should have used with man to man.

Injury
- Griffin has a strained hamstring. Full recovery in 10 days.

Game #9

Postby randy » Sun Mar 03, 2013 10:45 am

12/13/93: Sam Houston St (7-1) @ Wyoming (5-3)

Keys to the game
1. They are a good outside shooting team; 74 ppg, 19 3PA
2. They turn the ball over a lot; 14 topg
3. Main scorer is their 2; 17 ppg
4. We struggled to defend the perimeter during the last game
Initial instructions
1. Offense Sets (Free): Auto (75%)
2. Defense Sets (Int): Man to Man (8)
3. Press Sets (Freq): Auto (9)
4. O/D Reb Int: 8/8
Tip off (1st Half)

Majerus starts in lieu of Griffin (injury)

15:18, Up 14-5
Shooting well so far, 5-7 FG, 2-3 3PT
Assigned Granville to guard their star 2 right from the start

11:18, Up 22-11
Carr had lead us with 11, but he's on the bench with 2 PF

7:53, Up 30-22
We're 8-8 from FT. They are starting to heat up from 3, 4-8 so far

2:55, Up 40-28
We are still capitalizing on the FT line. I have rarely used my bench so far; Cook has not had a rest

Halftime, Up 50-34

Key stats
1. +14 REB, +9 FTM, -4 TO
2. Wyoming 13 PFs
3. Our starters had between 16 to 20 mins of PT in the half
4. Carr and Cook almost outscored the entire Wyoming team, combining for 33 pts
5. Their star 2 guard has 0 pts, 0-2 FG; Granville doing a good job defending
Start of 2nd Half

15:13, Up 56-39
Slow start for both teams. Coulibaly has connected on 2 jumpers; need him to get hot to relieve pressure on Carr and Cook

11:44, Up 62-51
Their backup 4 erupted with 3 consecutive 3-PT shots. He is now 5-6 from 3

7:59, Up 71-60
I have given seldom used SF Jonathan Smith some minutes to give Cook a short breather. He rewarded me with 7 pts on 6 mins so far

4:40, Up 75-65
My entire starting unit now on the floor for the final push

Final score: Sam Houston St - 89, Wyoming - 71

We went almost exclusive to Cook in the end, and he was unstoppable

Box Score
Cook 28, 17, 3, 12-16 FT (*) - monster game
Carr 23, 4, 4
Majerus 12, 6, 3, 4 blks
Coulibaly 11, 6, 1
Smith 7, 1, 0
Granville 4, 4, 11
Belton 2, 2, 1
Johnson 2, 2, 1
Team Stats Comparisons
FG%: 52 - 38
REB: +27 (Wyoming only had 15)
TO: -1
Paint: +18
2nd Chance : +12
Fast Break: +2
Other Notes

1. Wyoming's bench played better than their starting unit. Their top 2 scorers came off the bench. But they were not in the floor when the outcome of the game was still in doubt. We were up only by 10 with about 5 mins left. 3 of their bench players combined for 9-11 3PT; the AI coach should have realized that and left them on the floor

2. Our starters played an average of 35 mins in this game

3. We applied single coverage on their star 2 guard. He finished with 12 pts (2-6 FG, 6-6 FT), all in the 2nd half

As to the AI, what were the defensive ratings of the starters and the subs? Ball handling ratings? Over all shooting stats? Sometimes I'll keep a guy with a hot hand in at the end of a close game and sometimes I'll go with the veteran starter who has better ratings, and perhaps more importantly, knows my system better.
