December Player of the Month – Kevin Love, Minnesota Timberwolves – 31.8 points, 12.9 rebounds, 1.3 assists, 0.8 steals and 0.5 blocks per game.
December Rookie of the Month – Carl Farmer, Seattle Supersonics – 12.9 points, 6.8 rebounds, 1.2 assists, 1.5 steals and 2.5 blocks per game.
Another loss to a below average team. Even though we scored 44 points in the final quarter it wasn't enough, going down 121-118 to Denver. Chris Drexler had 28 points and 15 rebounds in the win while Varlam Cherkezov also played well with 19 points and 14 rebounds at the SG position. Brad Beal had 30 points and 12 rebounds but for some reason Brandon Anderer decided to shoot the ball every time he touched it, going 8/24 from the field for 19 points off the bench as MKG fouled out trying to guard ex-Mav Marcus Thornton.
Dallas Mavericks 17-8
We bounce back with a 103-76 win over Philadelphia as Brad Beal has 33 points and Andre Drummond put up 20 points and 11 rebounds. It was a pretty easy game as the Sixers shot 33% from the field.
Dallas Mavericks 18-8
This team is missing something, something to get it over the edge. At the moment it will always be a 50 win team but I don’t think it will be gunning for a championship which sucks. I look around the league to see if I can do that home run trade. Anything to get us over that hump. Oh boy, did I do just that.
Dallas trade:
SF Michael Kidd-Gilchrist
PG Darren Collison
Oklahoma City trade:
SF Kevin Durant
Winner – Dallas. There were reports of KD wanting to leave OKC in the offseason and this trade is so the Thunder can get something out of it. Very similar to the James Harden deal, OKC get an amazing all around player in MKG who is probably the best defender in the league as well as a great bench PG who will bolster the bench. However, the sheer talent of Durant puts the win very much in the Mavericks corner.
This trade also means that Matt Brown can start again at PG. What a deal! Absolutely massive for this team and for the Dallas area in general. Now we are firmly a championship contender.
Our first game is against the 25-10 Raptors and we smoke them 104-87 as Kevin Durant has a blinder with 41 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists in his first game in a Mav uniform. Brad Beal has 15 rebounds while Matt Brown hands out 10 assists in his first start of the season. Jeremy Lin was Toronto’s best with 20 points, 11 rebounds and 9 assists but Jake Chase and Paul Orvis were held to a combined 19 points.
Dallas Mavericks 19-8
Durant is on a roll now as we stomp the Clippers to the tune of 102-84 with KD again going nuts with 39 points. Brad Beal is loving not having to score all the time with 21 points and 11 rebounds. Christopher de Castro is starting at PG for some reason but he played well with 24 points.
Dallas Mavericks 20-8
The next game is against my old club the Memphis Grizzlies. They have fallen on hard times even with Kenneth Faried, Dwight Howard and John Wall on the roster, as they sit at 14-16. John Wall had one of the worst shooting nights I have ever witnessed, going 4/31 and 1/16 from three as we demolish Memphis 105-76. Kevin Durant was again over 30 points with 32 points and 10 rebounds while Matt Brown is loving having KD to pass to with 15 assists. Kenneth Faried was the best for the Grizz with 20 points and 18 rebounds but they shot 30% from the field and 3.6% from three (1/28!)
Dallas Mavericks 21-8
That’s five wins in a row as we overcome a slow start to take care of Charlotte 115-102. The Cats had an eleven point lead at half time before we outscored them 61-39 in the second half. I sound like a broken record with Kevin Durant having 34 points and 10 rebounds but Matt Brown was equally good with 17 points and 19 assists. Bill Mallet is starting at SF in MKG’s old spot and had 28 points in the loss.
Dallas Mavericks 22-8
Kevin Durant had 30 points but it was Andre Drummond who stole the show with 26 points and 16 rebounds as we outclassed the equally good Orlando Magic 113-106. Matt Brown had 12 assists in the win but was outplayed by Kemba Walker, who had 26 points. Paul George and Klay Thompson each had 20 points in the loss.
Dallas Mavericks 23-8
Brandon Anderer again mouths off and I’ve had enough. It’s going to be hard to trade him because he has talent but I’m looking to trade for someone who will be happy with coming off the bench and giving some quick minutes. So I bring back an old favourite.
Dallas trade:
PF Brandon Anderer
SF Dylan Peterson
Denver trade:
SG Marcus Thornton
C Derrick Woodward
Winner – Dallas. When Anderer came into the league he was oozing with potential. Now only in his second year he is being dealt for a journeyman. He just didn’t want to improve his game and hopefully he can learn from Chris Drexler, one of the best PFs in the league. For the Mavs, Thornton will be a huge punch off the bench while Woodward can defend, block shots and rebound which is all he needs to do on this team.
Brad Beal sprained his wrist early in the third team but we still got the win, beating Phoenix 117-106 to keep our streak alive. Andre Drummond put up 28 points and 14 rebounds but the best part is that he kept Nate Roberts to a goose egg, going 0/3 from the field but still playing 40 minutes. Of course Kevin Durant had 31 points, it’s just a given. Derrick Williams had 25 points for the Suns as they have a SG, two SFs and two PFs in their starting five.
Dallas Mavericks 24-8
Marcus Thornton gets the start for Brad Beal while Derrick Woodward starts at PF and we get smashed, 103-89 to Indiana and it wasn’t close. Alexander Verhaeren is becoming an amazing player and tonight having 27 points and 12 assists. Jim Turner was close to a triple double with 14 points, 14 rebounds and 8 assists in the win. KD had 32 points and 10 rebounds but Marcus only had 5 points while Matt Brown had 11 points, 8 assists and 7 rebounds but shot 5/17.
Dallas Mavericks 24-9
We bounce back in a big way, shooting 59% from the field and 69% from three as we burn the Celtics 132-116 as KD had 38 points. He wasn’t the best on the court though, as Matt Brown had 14 points and 21 assists and I’m kicking myself for letting Darren Collison start for as long as he did. DeMar DeRozan needed 28 shots to get his 23 points while last year’s number one pick Raul Lopez had a great game with 24 points and 9 rebounds. In fact, Raul Lopez is having a great year with 22.6 points per game, good for fifth in the league. Durant is currently sitting second at 30.3, behind Kevin Love’s 31.1 points per game.
Dallas Mavericks 25-9
In our biggest statement game of the year, we beat New Orleans 110-103 in a pretty devastating display of basketball against the reigning champions. Kevin Durant had 27 points and 9 rebounds but it was Andre Drummond’s 22 points on 10/12 shooting that proved to be the ace we needed. Anthony Davis ‘only’ had 19 points and five steals, but only blocks three shots.
Dallas Mavericks 26-9
Brandon Anderer played all of four minutes in our 116-90 win over Denver and I have heard that he starting to get pissy already in Denver. Matt Brown had 19 points and 12 assists while Derrick Woodward had his best game as a Maverick with 19 points and 11 rebounds. Markieff Morris was the best for the losers with 20 points off the bench as Chris Drexler had all types of trouble with Woodward.
Dallas Mavericks 27-9
Nevada didn’t stand a chance as we shoot 61% from the field in a 127-112 killing of the Neon. Kevin Durant and Andre Drummond combined for 71 points with Matt Brown handing out 18 assists, mostly to those two. Johnny Keys hit 10 three pointers on his way to 34 points off the bench while Bret Davis had 26 points and 8 assists off the bench as well.
Dallas Mavericks 28-9
It’s Hell Week 2.0 as we have five games in five days and six games in seven days. First up is a relatively easy Portland game at home. And what an easy game, as we got out to a 44 point lead to a 111-67 win as I get another ‘one-up’ on Brandon Jennings. Kevin Durant had 29 points in 32 minutes while Matt Brown has taken my heart again with 14 assists. Jennings was the best for the Blazers with 17 points but needed 20 shots to get them.
Dallas Mavericks 29-9
HW G2 – Our biggest lead against the hapless Wizards was 48 points as we rout them 122-75. The guys get most of the game off as our bench got a great run. Will Barton took full advantage with 6 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists as we shoot 51% from the field. Trevor Booker was the best for the Wizards with 19 points but they are in a huge mess, and they will need the lottery balls to bounce in their favour to get back on track.
Dallas Mavericks 30-9
HW G3 – It was Brad Beal’s turn to step up with 28 points and 7 rebounds as we again rout our opposition 123-97. The victims this time were the Milwaukee Bucks, as they never were in the running. My old friend Mike Lloyd had 20 points off the bench as we again scorch the nets, going 57% from the field.
Dallas Mavericks 31-9
HW G4 – Our first away game for Hell Week 2.0 and it was a laugher, beating up the helpless Sonics 96-63 as they shot an astonishingly bad 24% from the field. Kevin Durant was our best again with 24 points and 16 rebounds, but was helped out by Harrison Barnes’ and Andre Drummond’s double doubles. Ross Lampley was the only Seattle player in double figures with 20, while John Bragg had a game to forget, going 0/11 from the field.
Dallas Mavericks 32-9
HW G5 – Our fifth game in five days was again the amazing Detroit Pistons, currently second in the East. And what a game it was! They got out to an eight point lead in the third term after it had been close through the first half. Luckily for us we have Kevin Durant who went on a bender, scoring 15 of his 32 points in the final term as we outscored them 33-19 to win all five games 107-99. Andre Drummond and Brad Beal both had 19 points while Matt Brown dished out 12 helpers in the win. Greg Monroe was the best for the Pistons with 19 points and 16 rebounds but it was Bart Flanders who filled in for injured JaVale McGee valiantly, putting up 22 points and 7 rebounds off the bench.
Dallas Mavericks 33-9
Phew, five games, five nights, five wins. This team is on the same level, it’s scary.
Our last game of Hell Week 2.0 and our last game of the month couldn’t be more exciting. Kevin Durant and MKG going up against each other as the Thunder come to town. Kevin Durant had no worries with MKG, putting up 31 points as we flog them, winning 115-81 after our highest lead was a massive 41 points. Matt Brown fouled out in only 13 minutes guarding Russell Westbrook, but luckily we have Jevin Lindeman who put up 17 points, 10 assists and 7 rebounds off the bench in one of his best games. MKG had 8 points and 8 rebounds but had trouble guarding KD with Russell Westbrook having to take the lead with 34 points in the loss.
Dallas Mavericks 34-9
After the trade for KD we have gone 16-1 and are on a current 10 game winning streak which is just amazing. What else is amazing is Matt Brown’s play after he got the starting gig. In those 17 games he has averaged 10.1 points, 11.9 assists and 3.8 rebounds which is astonishing.
With that push we are now equal first in the conference at 34-9, tied with Minnesota. The Thunder are sitting third at 33-12 with Utah just behind them. Sacramento are dead last at 9-32 and falling.
In the East New Orleans are leading the way with a 33-11 record with the surprising Toronto Raptors second at 36-15, a half game ahead of Detroit. Washington are struggling to get to 10 wins at 6-43 and are looking at next season.

Second Round of NBA Draft Prospects (previous rank in brackets)
1. (1) SG Varlam Chavchavadze (Estonia), 18 years old, 6’2”, 197lbs
2. (NR) SG JD Lawson (USC), Freshman, 6’4”, 216lbs
3. (2) PG DeShaun Worley (Prairie View), Freshman, 6’2”, 191lbs
4. (NR) SG Michael Williams (Fresno State), Freshman, 6’8”, 196lbs
5. (4) PF Shannon Barker (Kent State), Freshman, 6’8”, 216lbs
Thoughts – It’s the draft of the guards. Similar to last draft, this class is stacked with one type of player and it terrible for teams set at that position. Six of the top seven players are guards, with “Chav-chav” still leading the way.
