Coming from Australia I had no idea who Largent was so I had to Google him. Hmm, I may have to play on this.

2020 NBA Draft

Looking over the prospects for our #3 pick I have kinda developed a obsession with California’s Marcus Randle. Remember how badly I wanted Thomas Cooper when I was in New York? Yeah, to that level. My man crushes may not have worked out in the past but this guy reminds me of Daymeon Morrison from way back. Super raw but dripping with potential so I’m going to do all I can to snag him.

1 – Nevada – PF John Nemitz
Yes! Not knocking Nemitz because he will be an amazing player and the Neon is a great team for him to lead the way but Randle is still there. To the phones!

Dallas trade:
SG Rodney Stuckey
#33 pick

Orlando trade:
2022 2nd round pick

Winner – Both. It might not look like a good deal for Dallas by trading the #33 pick just to get rid of Stuckey’s $1.3 million contract but going into free agency every dollar counts. The Magic get a decent bench SG and another nice draft pick.

Stay with me, I’ll get around to hopefully stealing Randle.

2 – Phoenix – SG Hillar Petrauskas
Whelp, I didn’t need to do anything it seems. Petrauskas has stormed up the rankings and finally the Suns have a decent SG.

3 – Dallas – PF Marcus Randle
I’m so happy with this, getting my #1 guy without doing anything. The experts are glowing about this pick and so am I. This puts a lot of pressure on Brandon Anderer who needs to keep his spot or else Randle will take it as soon as possible.

4 – Seattle – PF Carl Farmer
There are boos from the crowd which has nothing to do with Farmer. Another PF by the name of Brad Largent was still on the board, and for those who don’t know Largent is the grand-nephew of Steve Largent, the Pro Football Hall of Famer who played for the Seattle Seahawks and having an award named after him. Tough time to be Farmer who at #4 is a bit of a reach.

5 – Chicago – PF Brad Largent
There he goes and honestly he should have gone at #4. Fantastic pick here by the Bulls.

6 – Sacramento – SF Lisandro Perez
The best SF in the draft by far. Can do it all and at 6’8” can play a bit of SG and PF. Look for him to start from day one.

7 – LA Lakers – SG Dionsio Mason
Who? Not a good pick here by the Lakers as he could have been taken as low as the bottom of the lottery.

8 – Golden State – C Jimmy Forrest
The best C in the draft and should fit right in at the Bay. Great hands but not the best defender. Has a good work ethic so can iron out some of his faults with the team.

9 – Phoenix – PG Nashon Smith
Only 5’11” and 156lbs so will be pushed around every time he is on the court. Has great court vision but he will have a hard time getting his shot off.

10 – Boston – C Gabriel Estevez
Great mid range shooter and a beast of an athlete, Estevez should get on well with Raul Lopez. Isn’t the best defender but a steal at this point in the draft.

11 – Brooklyn – C Jason Jefferies
Amazing athlete who is still working out the game. His physical gifts cannot be ignored and if he can put it all together watch out.

12 – Indiana – PG Darcel Settles
Streaky shooter but if it was up to me Settles would be in place of Nashon Smith at #9. Good pick here and will ease the burden of distributing the ball from Alexander Vahaeren.

13 – Philadelphia – SG Doug Fisher
Fantastic shooter and tries hard on defence but his skills aren’t quite there yet. Could have been selected lower but not by much.

14 – Miami – SF Fred Blevins
Streaky shooter, bad passer, turnover machine, poor defender. Umm, he is good at free throws I guess.

15 – Atlanta – PF Larry Robinson
Defensively he is lacking but his quick feet and soft hands on offense is what got him to the lottery. Needs to work on his defence or he will be nothing but a bench warmer.

16 – Charlotte – SG Jacob Alexander
Huge 2-guard at 6’8” his shooting is close to being the best in this draft. Doesn’t do anything else well which is why the experts are saying this is a reach.

At the end of the lottery Andrew Graham is still in the green room looking for a team. His defence may be awful but he still has loads of other skills. Although I have heard reports that his work ethic is beyond terrible.

17 – Portland – C Dustin Harris
Steal of the draft right here.

18 – Milwaukee – PG Chad Carney
19 – Toronto – C Joe Duggins
20 – Washington – SG Ike Brown
21 – Miami – SG Freddie Stockman
22 – Orlando – SG Brian Griffith
23 – New Orleans – C Andrew Graham
Finally he goes, hopefully Anthony Davis can get into him.

24 – Cleveland – SF Paul Bickerstaf
25 – Toronto – SF Hector Carter
26 – Boston – PG Isaac Holdan
27 – San Antonio – SF Johnny Morgan
28 – Washington – C Mike Hall
29 – Utah – SF Armand Deren
30 – Oklahoma City – C Peter McCaffery
31 – Toronto – SG Jon Mitchell
32 – Detroit – PG Matt Evans

As I traded away our second round pick I gloss over the second round to the trades.

Memphis trade:
C Andray Blatche
PF Dante Cunningham

Chicago trade:
SG Louis Williams

Winner – Memphis. Williams will be a great back up guard or even starting SG. It depends on what the Grizzlies do as they only have five players on the books at the moment.

Orlando trade:
PF Casey Floyd

Toronto trade:
C Victor Jones
2020 2nd round pick

Winner – Toronto. The Magic have given up on their number one draft pick from three years ago for Jones who will be average at best. Sure, Floyd isn’t going to set the world on fire but he is a capable starter who will help out the Raptors.

Detroit trade:
C Tre Hines

Toronto trade:
PG Anton Palmer
2020 2nd round pick

Winner – Detroit. Palmer is a decent player but just hasn’t had the chance to show it. With the Pistons’ roster in flux this may be a good chance for him to get more minutes.

Atlanta trade:
SG Clarence Telly

Minnesota trade:
PF Andrea Bargnani
2020 2nd round pick

Winner – Minnesota. Even though the Wolves have like a million SGs on their roster Telly has some talent. Only one year under his belt he has some growing to do but could become a starting calibre guard. Bargnani at this stage is just a warm body.

I may have spoken too soon as Farmer looks better than Largent at this stage. Sure it’s only the start of their careers but if I was to pick one I would go for Farmer. Marcus Randle on the other hand looks absolutely tantalizing. Sure he will be put down into the D-League for this coming season and maybe even the next one but he just oozes class, talent and above all work ethic. Right now Hillar Petrauskas is the most NBA ready player in the draft and will most likely be starting from day one. He is already an above average defender and pick pocket and could blossom into an All Defence player.

Dylan Peterson - $5,292,000 (team option)
Brandon Anderer - $2,584,900
Marcus Randle - $3,955,400
Harrison Barnes - $19,140,013 (Free Agent)
Luol Deng - $1,622,617 (FA)
Andrew Bogut - $4,017,000 (FA)
Darren Collison - $14,145,000 (FA)
Marcus Thornton - $15,970,500 (FA)
Patrick Patterson - $10,557,000 (FA)
Anthony Walls - $6,288,750 (FA)
Bismack Biyombo - $4,500,000 (FA)
Kareem Baker - $945,691 (FA)
TOTAL - $94,384,238

After renouncing –

Jevin Lindeman - $2,533,867
Matt Brown - $2,831,500
Brandon Anderer - $2,584,900
Marcus Randle - $3,955,400
TOTAL - $11,905,667

That’s a massive $46 million in cap space that I can give out at my leisure to this crop of free agents. Too bad it’s not next season as Anthony Davis, Kevin Durant, Kevin Love and Blake Griffin to name a few are out of contract but this crop looks good anyway.

Our first game of the summer league is a 116-95 shellacking by the Suns with number two pick Hillar Petrauskas showing why he was picked there with 26 points while #9 pick Nashon Smith had 14 assists. Matt Brown was our best with 17 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists but Brandon Anderer and Marcus Randle both failed to fire.

Another flogging, this time a 102-80 beatdown by Toronto which is a little disheartening. Anthony McKie was the best with 24 points and 7 assists while the new Raptor Casey Floyd had 10 points and 8 rebounds. Brandon Anderer fouled out in 16 minutes, not before throwing up 12 shots and only hitting three. All of our guys played badly which isn’t a good sign.

That’s three losses in a row as Atlanta grinds us down to a 96-81 loss. Matt Brown had 13 assists to go with his 8 points and 7 rebounds with Brandon Anderer and Marcus Randle combining for 26 points.

I know it’s only summer league but I would love a win and Brandon Anderer gets the message in our 112-100 win over the Spurs. The guy known as Alderaan because of his immense Star Wars knowledge dropped 28 points while Marcus Randle helped out with 20 points and 8 rebounds. Thank goodness they stepped up because I was getting worried. Johnny Morgan, the number 27 pick in the draft had 32 points in the loss.

We finish off the summer league with a 111-106 win over Denver to get some dignity back as Brandon Anderer had 26 points to pace the game. Matt Brown was also spectacular with 17 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists. Varlam Cherkezov had 26 points in the loss.

So after three very mediocre games the boys woke up and dominated the last two which puts my mind at ease. Especially about Alderaan who shook a bad start and killed the last two.

I’m so excited, like a kid on Christmas morning with all this dosh to play with. I think it is not quite three max contracts which is simply amazing. Here are the top ten free agents –

C Mark Lewis*
C Andre Drummond
PG John Wall
SF Michael Kidd-Gilchrist
PG Kyrie Irving
SF Christopher de Castro*
SG Bradley Beal
SF Lebron James
PF Donte Rock*
PF Thomas Robinson

That doesn’t include guys like Ricky Rubio, Kenneth Faried, Peter Napier and Wesley Fields. If I don’t come out of this with something good I should be fired.

Even though we have Matt Brown I offer Kyrie Irving a four year maximum deal because I reckon he would look amazing at the SG position, and I also offer Mark Lewis and Andre Drummond max deals.

Boo, Mark Lewis re-signs with Utah for the most he can get. I offer Michael Kidd-Gilchrist his salary. I’m not entirely convinced with MKG’s scoring ability but his defence and leadership is off the charts.

Good news and bad news today. The good news is that Andre Drummond decided that Dallas is where he wants to be and signed our deal! Bad news is that Kyrie Irving went back to scummy Cleveland for a hell of a lot of money. In other news Donte Rock re-signed with Brooklyn. Using Irving’s money I send another offer to MKG for a bit more money as well as reaching out to Bradley Beal for a four year, $61 million deal.

YEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS. Do you know why I’m so happy? It’s because both MKG and Bradley Beal are going to be in Dallas Mavericks uniforms next season! With my three signings I have now got an All NBA second teamer and two all NBA third teamers as well as two All Defence first team and one second team guys on the roster. Just from last season! Yep, Dallas is back in a big way. Make way for the new Big Three.

Some more big news the next day with Christopher de Castro signing an offer sheet with Golden State for nearly $50 million over four years. Also, Peter Napier has also signed an offer sheet with another team, hoping to go to Orlando with their revamped roster. Big news. Also, Lebron has re-signed with Utah for one year.

Damn, both the Clippers and Thunder match the offer sheets of de Castro and Napier. That would have been a huge blow for the Thunder which makes me a little sad because I want to beat them. BAD.

The next day is pretty uneventful as nearly all of the good young guys are snatched back up by accepting a one year tender offer by their respective teams. Also, John Wall and Kenneth Faried re-signed with Memphis while Thomas Robinson went back to Sacramento.

Golden State aren’t crying too much as they steal one of the best defensive centres in the league in Drew McAfee to a four year deal. In other news of players moving teams Ricky Rubio has signed on to Chicago to give the Bulls some much needed ball handling help.

The Bulls aren’t finished yet as they steal Wesley Fields from Portland for four years, $40 million. I was hoping to get Bismack back on the cheap but Orlando were having none of it, nabbing him on a four year deal worth around $8 million per.

I’m glad Marcus Thornton has gone to a good team, signing a three year deal with Denver to give them a great scoring punch. If I wasn’t locked into my plan I would have kept him around.

I miss out on Nic Batum (going to Detroit) but Harrison Barnes, Dylan Peterson, Patrick Patterson, Darren Collison, Bill Walker and Andrew Bogut all sign here for much less than they are worth. Must be the new fresh air of potential wins. That puts us at 13 players. Finding decent SGs this late in free agency is like finding hen’s teeth but I offer Will Barton a deal, as well as Meyers Leonard to be 10 minute guys.

They both sign so with the maximum fifteen players on our roster I’m done. I’m also under the luxury cap which will make my boss very happy.

Training camp has come and gone and Marcus Randle is the real deal. He will be sent to the D-League this season because of how deep this team is but in a few years look out. I’m a little disappointed with Matt Brown as he hasn’t developed quite as much as I had hoped. Hell, right now he can’t beat out Darren Collison as the starting PG which is a huge worry.

The Pre-Season rankings have come out and we are ranked third in the West! Talk about a quick turnaround. I’m sure we will have a few problems along the way but I’m really happy with this team.

Western Conference Pre-Season Rankings
1. Utah Jazz
2. Minnesota Timberwolves
3. Dallas Mavericks
4. Oklahoma City Thunder
5. Los Angeles Lakers
Last. Nevada Neon

Looks pretty good to me, maybe drop the Lakers down a little but not too far. The Neon are far and away the worst team in the conference and I wouldn’t be surprised if they only just got past 10 wins.

Eastern Conference Pre-Season Rankings
1. Detroit Pistons
2. Brooklyn Nets
3. Cleveland Cavaliers
4. New Orleans Hornets
5. Toronto Raptors
Last. Washington Wizards

Now this is all wrong. Sure the Pistons are the best team in the East but Brooklyn at two? New Orleans at four? No way. Hell, I would put #7 Chicago in front of Brooklyn at this stage. The Wizards lost their best two players in Bradley Beal and Ricky Rubio so it’s no wonder why they are on the bottom.

Here is your “I’ve got a good feeling about this” 2020-2021 Dallas Mavericks –
PG – Darren Collison
SG – Bradley Beal
SF – Michael Kidd-Gilchrist
PF – Harrison Barnes
C – Andre Drummond
6th – Patrick Patterson
7th – Meyers Leonard
8th – Andrew Bogut
9th – Dylan Peterson
10th – Brandon Anderer
11th – Matt Brown
12th – Will Barton
13th – Jevin Lindeman
14th – Bill Walker
D-League – Marcus Randle

Matt Brown

Wow, Matt Brown really has slipped down the depth charts... Can you post his averages from last season? Any chance you may try to move him for someone else?

He may be 11th on the depth chart but he is still the first PG off the bench so he should get some minutes. I keep getting ahead of myself with Brown, he has only been in the league one year but I'm worried about his progression in his talents, they haven't increased as much as I had hoped. I guess I expected too much out of him being the replacement for fan favourite Brandon Jennings. His passing rating is 72/95 and ball handling is 69/95 so he has the potential to be a great ball handler, I just hope he gets there.

Here are his stats -

Dallas (NBA) - 29 games, 22 starts, 26.3 minutes, 9.3 points, 5.8 assists, 4.0 rebounds, 0.7 steals and 0.2 blocks.
Reno (DL) - 34 games, 34 starts, 37.9 minutes, 18.8 points, 8.7 assists, 5.0 rebounds, 1.6 steals, and 0.2 blocks.

Alright, here we go into a new era of Dallas basketball. Our first game is against Seattle and we clobber them 128-92. Andre Drummond is the star of the show with 31 points and 7 rebounds while Bradley Beal has 21 points and 8 rebounds. Even Meyers Leonard got into the action with 16 points in 18 minutes off the bench as we shoot 60% from the field. Ross Lampley was the best for the Sonics with 23 points but Carl “not Largent” Farmer had a night to forget with 5 points on 2/10 shooting.

Dallas Mavericks 1-0

After a great first game we crash back to Earth with a 97-76 home loss to San Antonio, getting out-rebounded 62-37. Chris Paul led the way with 23 points and 8 assists while Ernest Jameson has found his mojo again with 17 points and 13 rebounds. Michael Kidd-Gilchrist was our best with 19 points but both Brad Beal and Darren Collison were injured for this game so we didn’t have much scoring, shown by Harrison Barnes’ 1/11 shooting night.

Dallas Mavericks 1-1

Great. A few days later Brandon Anderer and Andre Drummond started having a go at each other during practice and had to be separated. I hate this kind of un-teammate behaviour and sit them both down in my office and tell them if they don’t start buying into this team then expect to be on another one soon enough. That quieted them down, but I will have to keep an eye on this situation.

In the Lakers versus Neon game Kendall Marshall broke a 30 year record by racking up 32 assists in their 142-119 win. He only scored nine points but to get into the record books like that is amazing. The Lakers shot 65% from the field and went 12/17 from three point land which is simply mind boggling.

Atlanta come to town and again we lose at home, this time dropping a 16 point lead to lose 97-93. I’m already pulling my hair out. Harrison Barnes had 37 points and 11 rebounds in the loss but it was Demond “Rebound Demon” Lewis who stole the show with 9 points, 21 rebounds and 7 blocks. It’s good to see Ron Winston starting at SG, even though he went 4/18 from the field. Grr, another close home loss does not make my blood pressure any better.

Dallas Mavericks 1-2

The Magic are currently sitting perfect, winning eight games from eight games. They are now eight wins from nine games as we somehow win 86-75 as our defence shone through. Harrison Barnes was again magnificent as he started at SG for the injured Brad Beal and had 24 points and 10 rebounds. In fact, Barnes, MKG, Drummond and the starting Dylan Peterson all had double digit rebounds, as we crushed them 61-41 on the boards. Kemba Walker had a night to forget with 13 points on 5/23 shooting, going 3/14 from three.

Dallas Mavericks 2-2

Andrew Bogut has started arcing up about his lack of playing time and I fire back, saying what I said to Alderaan and Drummond, ship up or I’ll ship you out. I hope he gets the message because he is on thin ice.

It’s an old family reunion for Andre Drummond as we host the Pistons, but we weren’t very nice hosts as we put on a 32-19 final quarter to squash them 113-90. Brad Beal had 30 points in the win but it was all Andre, with 22 points and 9 rebounds as he demolished his replacement JaVale McGee. The Pistons shot 41% from the field with MKG narrowly missing out on a triple double with 12 points, 9 rebounds and 8 assists.

Dallas Mavericks 3-2

It’s an OLD family reunion for me as we got to NYC to play the Knicks and they pummel us 111-83. Steph Curry was electric with 34 points and 7 rebounds while he back court running mate Tobias Harris has 12 points, 12 rebounds and 7 assists. Andre Drummond top scored for us with 18 points but turned the ball over seven times in the game. More bad news is that Dylan Peterson had a go at Jaymes Bekale, saying he should be out there instead of rotting on the bench like a scrub. Naturally I responded by saying that he should leave his bib and bottle at home and when he puts on a Maverick uniform he needs his big boy shorts.

Dallas Mavericks 3-3

Another tough game as we host the Jazz and even though Derrick Favors put up 17 points and 13 rebounds we kept Lebron James and Mark Lewis to a combined 21 points, which meant we won 106-93. Brad Beal had 30 points and a whopping 14 rebounds while Andre Drummond put up 16 points, 18 rebounds and 5 blocks to neutralise Lewis.

Dallas Mavericks 4-3

Our last game of the month (only eight games in November, remember?) was another disappointing home loss, this time the score was 115-98 in favour of Minnesota. Kevin Love was amazing with 22 points and 18 rebounds while Damian Lillard put Darren Collison to the sword with 21 points and 7 assists. Harrison Barnes was our best with 22 points and 8 rebounds and even though we shot 51% to their 42% we still got hammered, as the Wolves shot 28 more field goals than us.

Dallas Mavericks 4-4

Again Andrew Bogut has a go at the front office and I’ve had enough, next month when he is able to be traded he is gone like my money on payday.

After a very average 4-4 start we are sitting in seventh place, with the surprising Lakers on top with a 10-4 record, a game in front of Houston who is a game in front of OKC. Seattle are still down the bottom at 2-11.

In the East another surprising team is leading the way with the 13-2 Magic holding top spot. Of course New Orleans are right behind them with a 12-4 record. Washington are even worse than Seattle with a 2-16 record, already four games behind second last Chicago.

Dallas Top Points
Andre Drummond – 18.1
Brad Beal – 17.5
Harrison Barnes – 17.3

Dallas Top Assists
Michael Kidd-Gilchrist – 6.0
Darren Collison – 4.4

November Player of the Month – Kevin Love, Minnesota Timberwolves – 28.4 points, 1.3 assists, 11.2 rebounds, 1.2 steals and 0.7 blocks per game.

November Rookie of the Month – Carl Farmer, Seattle Supersonics – 12.8 points, 1.8 assists, 6.2 rebounds, 0.7 steals and 2.0 blocks per game.

We shouldn’t lose to the 4-12 Neon and luckily we don’t, winning the game easily 108-94. MKG doesn’t score much but he does everything else, tonight having 11 points, 16 rebounds and 9 assists with Andre Drummond helping out with 17 points, 10 rebounds and 5 blocks. Riyad Burke had 24 points in the loss with #1 draft pick John Nemitz having a woeful night with 9 points on 4/17 shooting.

Dallas Mavericks 5-4

It’s off the Milwaukee the next night and all three of my big off season acquisitions stepped up in our 106-89 win. Andre Drummond had 23 points, 7 rebounds and 5 blocks, Brad Beal had 25 points and 10 rebounds while MKG had 12 points, 10 assists and 6 rebounds. Jamal Howell was the best for the Bucks with 28 points and 8 rebounds but they shot 40% from the field without injured Rajon Rondo and Chase Budinger.

Dallas Mavericks 6-4

**TRADE**

Milwaukee trade:
PG Rajon Rondo

Nevada trade:
SG Wesley Mathews
2021 2nd round pick

Winner – Nevada. He is nowhere near as good as he used to be but Rondo will be fantastic as a mentor and leader of this young Neon team. I guess that’s the reason why he didn’t play last night.

The Wizards are nothing without Beal and Rubio and it showed in our 111-87 win in the country’s capital. Brad Beal was booed everytime he touched the ball on his way to 27 points while Andre Drummond had 19 points and 15 rebounds. The Wizards’ top scorer was a four way tie at only 10 points, with rookie Ike Brown needing 15 shots to get those 10 points.

Dallas Mavericks 7-4

The Bulls got out to a 24 point lead in the first half before we stormed back, outscoring them 76-43 in the second half and 41-19 in the final term to squeeze out a 109-95 win. Brad Beal and Harrison Barnes top scored with 22 points each, Beal even had 5 blocks. Ricky Rubio had 24 points and 11 rebounds but when he has to be the top scorer then their team is in trouble. That Chicago team has a few of my old players, with Wesley Fields and Antoine Martin from Memphis starting at SF and SG respectively.

Dallas Mavericks 8-4

That’s five wins in a row as we take care of Portland as I finally get my revenge against Brandon Jennings 94-82. Jennings had a stinker, going 4/11 from the field for only 11 points and six fouls. In contrast, Darren Collison had a blinder with 14 points, 12 rebounds and 9 assists to take care of business.

Dallas Mavericks 9-4

Andrew Bogut started to whinge again and that is his third strike. I can’t trade him because he was signed this off season so I just cut him. He was on a one year deal so it won’t hurt us any. Good riddance in my opinion.

Darn, the Bulls get us back with a pretty impressive display of basketball, beating us 109-88. Ricky Rubio was again their best with 24 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists but he had some help in Antoine Martin who also had 24 points. Bradley Beal was our only scorer with 28 points and 10 rebounds, other than that we didn’t have anyone.

Dallas Mavericks 9-5

We don’t let that loss get us down as get beat our in-state rival San Antonio 104-95 as Andre Drummond dismantles Ernest Jameson. AD had 21 points, 14 rebounds and 6 assists compared to Jameson’s 8 points while MKG again fell short of a triple double with 23 points, 11 rebounds and 9 assists. The Spurs had seven players in double figures but their top scorer was Grevis Vasquez with 14 points and 11 assists.

Dallas Mavericks 10-5

It’s a home and home against Houston, with the first game in Houston. There were 17 lead changes and 12 ties in the game as neither team could get away from the other, but luckily for us we just pulled ahead at the end thanks to a Brad Beal driving layup on the buzzer to win 104-102. Beal had 31 points and 9 rebounds with Harrison Barnes playing Robin with 21 points and 13 rebounds. James Harden had a hard night, going 7/19 from the field for 23 points but it was Nikola Vucevic who kept them in it with 16 points and 11 rebounds.

Dallas Mavericks 11-5

The Rockets travelled to our home court the next time and again it was close but we held our nerve and the lead to win 109-101. Brad Beal was again our best with 33 points and 8 rebounds as all five of our starters were in double figures. James Harden had a much better shooting night with 28 points with Jay Warren putting up 21 points and 7 assists.

Dallas Mavericks 12-5

Grr, we squander a 59-49 rebounding edge to lose to San Antonio 98-80. It was a terrible shooting game all around with the Spurs shooting 15/42 from three which is just absurd. Chris Paul was the best on ground with 21 points and 10 assists with Ernest Jameson having 10 points and 14 rebounds. All of our starters were in double figures with Andre Drummond being our best with 14 points and 17 rebounds. Disappointing game here.

Dallas Mavericks 12-6

Meyers Leonard didn’t like his seven minutes in the Spurs game and decided to talk to the media instead of talking to me or Jaymes. When will they learn that if they talk to us discreetly it will be better received overall? I tell him to pull his head in or suffer the consequences. I have no patience for individuals who think they are bigger than the team.

**TRADE**

Indiana trade:
PG Bret Davis
2021 2nd round pick

Nevada trade:
PF Jason Chambers

Winner – Nevada. Even though Chambers is now starting for the Pacers, Davis has all the skills to be an elite PG in the league. If he gets there is a different question but if he can’t do it in an expansion team like Nevada where he will get plenty of court time then he will never do it.

We hit back despite a 30 points outing by Joe Abney as we take care of the now 4-22 Kings 120-110. Brad Beal was electric with 32 points while Harrison Barnes put up 24 points in the win. DeMarcus Cousins had 16 points and 15 rebounds to help out Abney but I don’t really know why they are playing so badly this season. They have tons of talent, I guess talent is only part of the equation for wins.

Dallas Mavericks 13-6

We get our revenge on San Antonio as I look like a freaking genius by signing Harrison Barnes to such a small contract, as our PF had 22 points and 5 rebounds in our 99-84 brushing of the Spurs. Again all of our starters were in double figures but what worries me is that they are playing a lot of minutes lately so that could come back and haunt us later on. Jordan Crawford was the best of a losing bunch with 21 points as Chris Paul was held to only 2/9 shooting.

Dallas Mavericks 14-6

That’s much better as we stomp the Warriors 114-98 as Harrison Barnes again stands out with 24 points and 11 rebounds with Brad Beal backing him up with 22 points and 8 rebounds. Charles Canady had 25 points for the Warriors but prized recruit Drew McAfee went ¼ form the field for only 8 points and 13 rebounds.

Dallas Mavericks 15-6

Lebron James may be 35 years old but he still knows how to put the ball in the basket, tonight having 32 points as the Jazz took us out 112-102. Derrick Favors had 18 points and 14 rebounds as Mark Lewis is still out injured. We would be lost without Harrison Barnes as he again top scored with 25 points.

Dallas Mavericks 15-7

What I like about this team is that we don’t usually go on losing streaks, this time we bounce back with an away win over Phoenix 98-86. Brad Beal is our best with 21 points and 10 rebounds while Alfred Abney wasn’t really the best for the Suns with 22 points and 8 rebounds but needed 26 shots to get them. Hell, he took 22 three point shots which is amazing.

Dallas Mavericks 16-7

We finish the month with a 98-77 killing of Sacramento. I think Brad Beal is killing himself with leather poisoning as our SG had 27 points on a whopping 30 shots. Apparently he didn’t think anyone else should have shot the ball. MKG put up 7 points, 14 rebounds and 9 assists to again come close to a triple double. Rookie Lisandro Perez top scored for the Kings with 20 points.

Dallas Mavericks 17-7

After a decent second month we have moved into third place in the West, four games behind conference leaders Utah who are on 21-6. Minnesota are second with a 22-8 record while Seattle Sonics are dead last at 4-20.

In the East Detroit are leading of course but Orlando aren’t that far behind, the Pistons on 23-7 with the Magic on 20-7. Washington are even worse than the Sonics with a 4-32 record.

Dallas Top Points
Brad Beal – 21.2
Harrison Barnes – 16.3
Andre Drummond – 16.3

Dallas Top Assists
Michael Kidd-Gilchrist – 6.5
Darren Collison – 6.2
Matt Brown – 3.0

Dallas Top Rebounds
Andre Drummond – 9.3
Michael Kidd-Gilchrist – 9.0
Brad Beal – 7.3

League Leaders
Points – Kevin Love (MIN) – 29.7
Assists – Kendall Marshall (LAL) – 12.9
Rebounds – Derrick Favors (UTA) – 11.9
Blocks – Andre Drummond (DAL) – 3.3
Steals – Paul George (ORL) – 3.1
Efficiency – Kevin Love (MIN) – 29.2

Rookie Leaders
Points – Carl Farmer (SEA) – 12.8
Assists – Doug Fisher (PHI) – 4.8
Rebounds – Carl Fisher (SEA) – 6.5
Blocks – Carl Fisher (SEA) – 2.1
Steals – Carl Fisher (SEA) – 1.1
Efficiency – Carl Farmer (SEA) – 14.0

Do you think Fisher is playing well?

First Round of NBA Draft Prospects

1. SG Varlam Chavchavadze (Estonia), 18 years old, 6’2”, 197lbs
2. PG DeShaun Worley (Prairie View), Freshman, 6’2”, 191lbs
3. PF Willis Owens (Michigan State), Senior, 6’9”, 247lbs
4. PF Shannon Barker (Kent State), Freshman, 6’8”, 216lbs
5. SG Josh Jackson (Massachusetts), Junior, 6’3”, 190lbs

Thoughts – Where the hell is Prairie View? It doesn’t really matter because Worley is 0.5 assists and 1.0 rebounds away from averaging a triple double which is amazing. “Chav-chav” has also been amazing over in Estonia, putting up 31 points, 7 assists and 8 rebounds a game so far.

December Player of the Month – Kevin Love, Minnesota Timberwolves – 31.8 points, 12.9 rebounds, 1.3 assists, 0.8 steals and 0.5 blocks per game.

December Rookie of the Month – Carl Farmer, Seattle Supersonics – 12.9 points, 6.8 rebounds, 1.2 assists, 1.5 steals and 2.5 blocks per game.

Another loss to a below average team. Even though we scored 44 points in the final quarter it wasn't enough, going down 121-118 to Denver. Chris Drexler had 28 points and 15 rebounds in the win while Varlam Cherkezov also played well with 19 points and 14 rebounds at the SG position. Brad Beal had 30 points and 12 rebounds but for some reason Brandon Anderer decided to shoot the ball every time he touched it, going 8/24 from the field for 19 points off the bench as MKG fouled out trying to guard ex-Mav Marcus Thornton.

Dallas Mavericks 17-8

We bounce back with a 103-76 win over Philadelphia as Brad Beal has 33 points and Andre Drummond put up 20 points and 11 rebounds. It was a pretty easy game as the Sixers shot 33% from the field.

Dallas Mavericks 18-8

This team is missing something, something to get it over the edge. At the moment it will always be a 50 win team but I don’t think it will be gunning for a championship which sucks. I look around the league to see if I can do that home run trade. Anything to get us over that hump. Oh boy, did I do just that.

Dallas trade:
SF Michael Kidd-Gilchrist
PG Darren Collison

Oklahoma City trade:
SF Kevin Durant

Winner – Dallas. There were reports of KD wanting to leave OKC in the offseason and this trade is so the Thunder can get something out of it. Very similar to the James Harden deal, OKC get an amazing all around player in MKG who is probably the best defender in the league as well as a great bench PG who will bolster the bench. However, the sheer talent of Durant puts the win very much in the Mavericks corner.

This trade also means that Matt Brown can start again at PG. What a deal! Absolutely massive for this team and for the Dallas area in general. Now we are firmly a championship contender.

Our first game is against the 25-10 Raptors and we smoke them 104-87 as Kevin Durant has a blinder with 41 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists in his first game in a Mav uniform. Brad Beal has 15 rebounds while Matt Brown hands out 10 assists in his first start of the season. Jeremy Lin was Toronto’s best with 20 points, 11 rebounds and 9 assists but Jake Chase and Paul Orvis were held to a combined 19 points.

Dallas Mavericks 19-8

Durant is on a roll now as we stomp the Clippers to the tune of 102-84 with KD again going nuts with 39 points. Brad Beal is loving not having to score all the time with 21 points and 11 rebounds. Christopher de Castro is starting at PG for some reason but he played well with 24 points.

Dallas Mavericks 20-8

The next game is against my old club the Memphis Grizzlies. They have fallen on hard times even with Kenneth Faried, Dwight Howard and John Wall on the roster, as they sit at 14-16. John Wall had one of the worst shooting nights I have ever witnessed, going 4/31 and 1/16 from three as we demolish Memphis 105-76. Kevin Durant was again over 30 points with 32 points and 10 rebounds while Matt Brown is loving having KD to pass to with 15 assists. Kenneth Faried was the best for the Grizz with 20 points and 18 rebounds but they shot 30% from the field and 3.6% from three (1/28!)

Dallas Mavericks 21-8

That’s five wins in a row as we overcome a slow start to take care of Charlotte 115-102. The Cats had an eleven point lead at half time before we outscored them 61-39 in the second half. I sound like a broken record with Kevin Durant having 34 points and 10 rebounds but Matt Brown was equally good with 17 points and 19 assists. Bill Mallet is starting at SF in MKG’s old spot and had 28 points in the loss.

Dallas Mavericks 22-8

Kevin Durant had 30 points but it was Andre Drummond who stole the show with 26 points and 16 rebounds as we outclassed the equally good Orlando Magic 113-106. Matt Brown had 12 assists in the win but was outplayed by Kemba Walker, who had 26 points. Paul George and Klay Thompson each had 20 points in the loss.

Dallas Mavericks 23-8

Brandon Anderer again mouths off and I’ve had enough. It’s going to be hard to trade him because he has talent but I’m looking to trade for someone who will be happy with coming off the bench and giving some quick minutes. So I bring back an old favourite.

Dallas trade:
PF Brandon Anderer
SF Dylan Peterson

Denver trade:
SG Marcus Thornton
C Derrick Woodward

Winner – Dallas. When Anderer came into the league he was oozing with potential. Now only in his second year he is being dealt for a journeyman. He just didn’t want to improve his game and hopefully he can learn from Chris Drexler, one of the best PFs in the league. For the Mavs, Thornton will be a huge punch off the bench while Woodward can defend, block shots and rebound which is all he needs to do on this team.

Brad Beal sprained his wrist early in the third team but we still got the win, beating Phoenix 117-106 to keep our streak alive. Andre Drummond put up 28 points and 14 rebounds but the best part is that he kept Nate Roberts to a goose egg, going 0/3 from the field but still playing 40 minutes. Of course Kevin Durant had 31 points, it’s just a given. Derrick Williams had 25 points for the Suns as they have a SG, two SFs and two PFs in their starting five.

Dallas Mavericks 24-8

Marcus Thornton gets the start for Brad Beal while Derrick Woodward starts at PF and we get smashed, 103-89 to Indiana and it wasn’t close. Alexander Verhaeren is becoming an amazing player and tonight having 27 points and 12 assists. Jim Turner was close to a triple double with 14 points, 14 rebounds and 8 assists in the win. KD had 32 points and 10 rebounds but Marcus only had 5 points while Matt Brown had 11 points, 8 assists and 7 rebounds but shot 5/17.

Dallas Mavericks 24-9

We bounce back in a big way, shooting 59% from the field and 69% from three as we burn the Celtics 132-116 as KD had 38 points. He wasn’t the best on the court though, as Matt Brown had 14 points and 21 assists and I’m kicking myself for letting Darren Collison start for as long as he did. DeMar DeRozan needed 28 shots to get his 23 points while last year’s number one pick Raul Lopez had a great game with 24 points and 9 rebounds. In fact, Raul Lopez is having a great year with 22.6 points per game, good for fifth in the league. Durant is currently sitting second at 30.3, behind Kevin Love’s 31.1 points per game.

Dallas Mavericks 25-9

In our biggest statement game of the year, we beat New Orleans 110-103 in a pretty devastating display of basketball against the reigning champions. Kevin Durant had 27 points and 9 rebounds but it was Andre Drummond’s 22 points on 10/12 shooting that proved to be the ace we needed. Anthony Davis ‘only’ had 19 points and five steals, but only blocks three shots.

Dallas Mavericks 26-9

Brandon Anderer played all of four minutes in our 116-90 win over Denver and I have heard that he starting to get pissy already in Denver. Matt Brown had 19 points and 12 assists while Derrick Woodward had his best game as a Maverick with 19 points and 11 rebounds. Markieff Morris was the best for the losers with 20 points off the bench as Chris Drexler had all types of trouble with Woodward.

Dallas Mavericks 27-9

Nevada didn’t stand a chance as we shoot 61% from the field in a 127-112 killing of the Neon. Kevin Durant and Andre Drummond combined for 71 points with Matt Brown handing out 18 assists, mostly to those two. Johnny Keys hit 10 three pointers on his way to 34 points off the bench while Bret Davis had 26 points and 8 assists off the bench as well.

Dallas Mavericks 28-9

It’s Hell Week 2.0 as we have five games in five days and six games in seven days. First up is a relatively easy Portland game at home. And what an easy game, as we got out to a 44 point lead to a 111-67 win as I get another ‘one-up’ on Brandon Jennings. Kevin Durant had 29 points in 32 minutes while Matt Brown has taken my heart again with 14 assists. Jennings was the best for the Blazers with 17 points but needed 20 shots to get them.

Dallas Mavericks 29-9

HW G2 – Our biggest lead against the hapless Wizards was 48 points as we rout them 122-75. The guys get most of the game off as our bench got a great run. Will Barton took full advantage with 6 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists as we shoot 51% from the field. Trevor Booker was the best for the Wizards with 19 points but they are in a huge mess, and they will need the lottery balls to bounce in their favour to get back on track.

Dallas Mavericks 30-9

HW G3 – It was Brad Beal’s turn to step up with 28 points and 7 rebounds as we again rout our opposition 123-97. The victims this time were the Milwaukee Bucks, as they never were in the running. My old friend Mike Lloyd had 20 points off the bench as we again scorch the nets, going 57% from the field.

Dallas Mavericks 31-9

HW G4 – Our first away game for Hell Week 2.0 and it was a laugher, beating up the helpless Sonics 96-63 as they shot an astonishingly bad 24% from the field. Kevin Durant was our best again with 24 points and 16 rebounds, but was helped out by Harrison Barnes’ and Andre Drummond’s double doubles. Ross Lampley was the only Seattle player in double figures with 20, while John Bragg had a game to forget, going 0/11 from the field.

Dallas Mavericks 32-9

HW G5 – Our fifth game in five days was again the amazing Detroit Pistons, currently second in the East. And what a game it was! They got out to an eight point lead in the third term after it had been close through the first half. Luckily for us we have Kevin Durant who went on a bender, scoring 15 of his 32 points in the final term as we outscored them 33-19 to win all five games 107-99. Andre Drummond and Brad Beal both had 19 points while Matt Brown dished out 12 helpers in the win. Greg Monroe was the best for the Pistons with 19 points and 16 rebounds but it was Bart Flanders who filled in for injured JaVale McGee valiantly, putting up 22 points and 7 rebounds off the bench.

Dallas Mavericks 33-9

Phew, five games, five nights, five wins. This team is on the same level, it’s scary.

Our last game of Hell Week 2.0 and our last game of the month couldn’t be more exciting. Kevin Durant and MKG going up against each other as the Thunder come to town. Kevin Durant had no worries with MKG, putting up 31 points as we flog them, winning 115-81 after our highest lead was a massive 41 points. Matt Brown fouled out in only 13 minutes guarding Russell Westbrook, but luckily we have Jevin Lindeman who put up 17 points, 10 assists and 7 rebounds off the bench in one of his best games. MKG had 8 points and 8 rebounds but had trouble guarding KD with Russell Westbrook having to take the lead with 34 points in the loss.

Dallas Mavericks 34-9

After the trade for KD we have gone 16-1 and are on a current 10 game winning streak which is just amazing. What else is amazing is Matt Brown’s play after he got the starting gig. In those 17 games he has averaged 10.1 points, 11.9 assists and 3.8 rebounds which is astonishing.

With that push we are now equal first in the conference at 34-9, tied with Minnesota. The Thunder are sitting third at 33-12 with Utah just behind them. Sacramento are dead last at 9-32 and falling.

In the East New Orleans are leading the way with a 33-11 record with the surprising Toronto Raptors second at 36-15, a half game ahead of Detroit. Washington are struggling to get to 10 wins at 6-43 and are looking at next season.

Dallas Top Points
Kevin Durant – 29.9
Brad Beal – 19.7
Andre Drummond – 17.3

Dallas Top Assists

Second Round of NBA Draft Prospects (previous rank in brackets)
1. (1) SG Varlam Chavchavadze (Estonia), 18 years old, 6’2”, 197lbs
2. (NR) SG JD Lawson (USC), Freshman, 6’4”, 216lbs
3. (2) PG DeShaun Worley (Prairie View), Freshman, 6’2”, 191lbs
4. (NR) SG Michael Williams (Fresno State), Freshman, 6’8”, 196lbs
5. (4) PF Shannon Barker (Kent State), Freshman, 6’8”, 216lbs

Thoughts – It’s the draft of the guards. Similar to last draft, this class is stacked with one type of player and it terrible for teams set at that position. Six of the top seven players are guards, with “Chav-chav” still leading the way.

I'm over the moon. Losing MKG was hard because in this universe he is a bonafide superstar. He doesn't score much (career high of 14.0ppg) but he does everything else. He will give you 7-9rpg, 5-6apg, 2spg and over 1bpg with phenomenal defence. I would probably so far as to say he is the best defensive player in the game today.
