Oops! Better unpack my bags, we aren't off to the Garden just yet. One more home game to get through vs Norfolk St. first.

Jan 18: The Chanticleers were blown out by #14 Memphis 94-57 in the NCAA tourney. That leaves us as the only Big South team still playing.

I'd also better get a new calendar... it's March, not January.

Mar 19: In the midst of trying to prepare for our next game I have to spend a day travelling to Tennessee and Texas for recruiting visits. I'm feeling a bit frazzled.

Mar 21: NIT Qfinals: Norfolk St. (23-8)@ Gardner-Webb(22-9)

The Spartans were regular season champions of the MEAC with a 15-1 record but lost in the championship game of their tournament. They have an RPI of 52. In their only game against a mutual opponent they lost by 22 at Utah.

They are a deliberate team with balanced scoring. They tend to shoot the ball well and get to the line a lot. Defensively they are quite stingy and rebound well too. This will be a challenge.

For the first 15 minutes of the half we were atrocious offensively, although their defense gets SOME of the credit but not all. We also stank on the boards getting out-rebounded 24-15,9-8 for the half. We played much better in the final 5 minutes though getting our shooting % all the way up to 27.6. At the half we trail 32-26.

We play better in the 2nd half, although we still only shoot 35.3% for the game and get clobbered on the defensive boards 33-48,14-17. Our 2nd half defense was superb however and they struggled against our traps in the Amoeba as we turn them over 19 times with 12 steals.

Battle had 11 pts, 4 asts, 3 rebs
Felts added 14 pts, 3 asts, 7 rebs and a stl
Ike played like an all-american with 23 pts, 2 asts, 4 rebs, and 3 stls
'Zilla did his job defensively and had 5pts, 10 rebs, 2 stls

Brown was invisible in this one off the bench. Our only guys to give us good minutes were Sanders(5pts,1 ast, 3 rebs, 3stls) and Geisen.

As the band starts to play, "New York, New York", NOW we are off to the Garden.

Final:

G-W 64 Norfolk St. 61
