John Bosl choose to retire after the 2028-2029 NBA season at 37 years of age. Bosl was inducted into the Hall of Fame alongside Kevin Love, Ricky Rubio, and Damian Lillard.
Bosl held career totals of:
1176 Games
24944 Points (30th in the NBA)
5821 Assists
5829 Rebounds
729 Blocks
1146 Steals
Bosl held Orlando Magic totals of:
1094 Games (1st in Orlando History)
24445 Points (1st in Orlando History)
5750 Assists (1st in Orlando History)
5731 Rebounds (2nd in Orlando History)
1126 Steals (1st in Orlando History)
724 Blocks (5th in Orlando History)
Bosl was an 11-Time All-Star and an 8-Time All-NBA Team Member.
Bosl helped create a golden age of shooting guards in the NBA. At this point there are several superstar shooting guard who molded their games around highlights of John Bosl. Now there are 3 shooting guards who averaged 26+ points during the 2028-2029 season compared to one when Bosl entered the league. Also 12 shooting guards averaged 20+ points. (Just a side note the top shooting guard in the leauge right now is a German named Sonke Tannenbaum and Tannenbaum translates to Christmas Tree...) Bosl also became the first player to have his jersey retired by the Orlando Magic, #21. Bosl also had a standout career at UCLA where he spent 4 years, his #21 jersey is retired there as well. At the start of this dynasty I compared Bosl to Jimmer Fredette, which now appears absolutely preposterous.
Chris McKnight and Bruce McGee also decided to retire, both are also 37 years old.
McKnight had a great career, even reaching the NBA finals with the Kings. McKnight spent his entire career in Sacramento and was named to 1 All-Star Team. McKnight was a terrific all-around player who could do a little bit of everything on the stat sheet. My comparison of McKnight to Ron Artest wasn't completely correct, he wasn't anywhere near the man to man defender Artest was, but he did play terrific off-ball defense, racking up the stats.
McGee only played five years in the league, all with Boston. He never became more than a role player, but no one can say that he didn't make it to the NBA.
