Feb 4, 2002: #13 UCLA (19-3, 8-3) @ Colorado (6-14, 3-8)
COL shot a decent 44% FG in this high scoring game; ours is just a little better at 50%. The rest of the were almost even, which explains how close the score is. Halftime, Up 47-44.
COL got off to fast start, connecting on a coupe of 3s, which allowed them to take a 1 pt lead. Score was close for the next few minutes, before our shooters started connecting from the outside. Up 68-58, 12:20. COL came back with a torrid 11-0 run, which included 3 triples, to retake a 1pt lead. We answered with a 3, and the game is very close once again. Tied at 73, 7:41.
We connected on 2 more 3pt shots, but COL has scored more pts to establish a 3pt lead heading in to the final stretch of this game. Down 79-82, 3:54.
COL made a turn over. But we also turned the ball over, resulting in a fast break opportunity for COL. COL missed teh shot but got fouled; they hit 2 FTs. Down 5. We miss another shot. We get a steal on the other end. And then another miss shot on our end shots not falling when we needed them the most. We got called for another foul; we're in the penalty. COL missed the front end. We secure the rebound. We go C Troy Jones, who hit a basket from the low post. Down 81-84, 2:08.
We need a stop. But the refs will award 2 FTs again to COL. COL gets both FTs to fall in. Down 5 again. We turned the ball over on a bad pass. COL missed, but they get the off rebound. They chew up some more clock, until we came up with a steal. 0:53. We'll go for 3s. We missed a 3. We'll have to foul. COL hits both FTs to make this a 3 possession game; no chance now
We led by double digits in the 1st half, and also in the 2nd half. On both occasions, we let COL get back, and eventually we lost in the end game. A winnable game that we threw away; no one else to blame this loss but ourselves.
Final Score: UCLA - 81, Colorado - 90
