3/7: It will be #9 seed Auburn, 13-15, 8-10, in the quarters.
3/8: 86-59. 25, 11 for Seer, 20, 13 for Rolt, 10, 11 for Hays, 9, 10, 4 for Jaes. Yes, we rebounded! +27!
#4 seed Missouri, 15-13, 10-8, in the semis. They’re not at all the team they’ve been over the past few seasons.
3/9: 70-55. 31, 16 for Seer, 11, 14 for Rolt.
#2 seed, #12 ranked Florida, 25-6, 13-5, for the title. They’re the only other SEC team who really did anything this year, but their #1 rebounder, #2 scorer, and best defender broke his wrist 3 games ago. We beat them by 16 there, before he got hurt.
3/10: 78-61. 27, 18, 4, 4, 6 for4 Seer, 21, 8 for Rolt, 12, 8 for Hays. +27 RBs.
32-0, 18-0, #3, RPI #3. We’ll be a #1 somewhere.
3/12: #1 South. We’ll play College of Charleston, 19-11. This is a good bracket for us. Love being on the right side of the bracket!
3/17: 76-37. Never a game, as expected. 21, 20 for Seer,, 12, 11 for sixth man Ad Lyda. 59 RBs, 8 TOs.
#8 seed Louisiana Tech, 25-7 is next.
3/19: 78-64. It wasn’t that close. 31, 13 for Seer, 19 for Jaes, 16 for Lyda, 13 RBs for Rolt. +20 RBs.
#5 seed, #18 ranked North Carolina, 23-9, in the Sweet Sixteen. They’re good, only good teams are left, but we should beat them.
3/24: 106-76. I expected a tougher game. 38, 11 for Seer, 21, 8 for Jaes, 12, 2, 11 for Beln, 14, 6, 4 for Lyda, 9, 17 for Rolt. +19 RBs, 9 TOs.
#6 seed, #24 ranked Oklahoma, 24-9, in the Elite Eight.
#1 ranked Syracuse was shocked by #4 Texas!
3/26: 79-59, and back to the Final Four! 27, 5 for Seer, 12, 13 for Rolt, 13, 6 for Lyda, 10, 5, 4, 3, 3 for Jaes.
We’ll play #5 ranked Michigan ST, 32-2, in the national semifinal. They’re an excellent team but we match up well against them.
On the other side it’s #2 Kansas, 36-1 vs. #4 Texas, 32-3. 4 very solid teams left.
4/1: 91-72 and we’re back in the title game! 32, 16 for Seer, 16, 10 for Lyda, 3 others with 10 or more. 52 RBs (+20), 10 TOs.
It’s #4 ranked Texas, 33-3. We think we’re the better team. We need to control the boards, which is their strength. We think we can. This is it, best shot we’ve had at a national title!
4/3: 76-65! Texas was determined that Will Seer would not beat them so they doubled, even tripled him all night, and kept him off the boards. That worked, but it gained them nothing. We simply went to everyone else, and Jaes had 20, 5, Rolt had 13 and 12, Hays had 14, 11, Lyda had 11 and 11. We were +14 on the boards but were awful with the ball, 21 TOs, 11 belonging to PG Al Beln, who I eventually took out and replaced with Elk Aers, who did much better. The game was never close. We were up 11 at the half, and led by as many as 21. We cleared the bench at the end so everyone could be part of this, and that led to the relatively close final score. In any case, we are the CHAMPIONS!!!
4/4: Awards: Will Seer was Final Four MOP, mostly based upon his fantastic semifinal performance. Will also made 1st team All American for the 3rd straight season, and I’m thrilled about that. I am the National COY. In conference, Will is POY and 1st team. Ban Rolt is Frosh OY and also 1st team, which is well deserved. Senior Eric Hays and frosh Jon Jaes made 2nd team.
4/9: Kansas is offering me the moon to go there, but I doubt that I will ever leave UMass at this point. Our TP is 95, and our budget is solid. We want to bump up the facilities, and that’s really all that we need to do.
4/23: We ask for that facilities upgrade. Yes! B+ to A!
38-0, undefeated national champs!
Overall, I’m 535-118, .819 after 19 seasons.
Let’s go for 2!
