Defence Formation Questions

Defence Formation Questions

Postby Iorwerth » Mon Jan 11, 2021 6:06 pm

A few questions about defense formations:

1. If I move from a 4-3 to a 3-4 I presume I would need to play OLBs, as my prime outside pass rushers? Would I have to change my DE to a LB for the AI to use a DE in that role (i.e. if not coaching the team myself and letting AI set my depth charts)? For example, if I am GM of the Browns and wanted to move to a 3-4 would I need to change Myles Garrett to an LB to get the most out of his pass rushing abilities i.e. would the AI play him at OLB if his position was still classified as DE? In a 3-4 does the game use OLBs as the prime outside pass rushers?

2. What does hybrid actually mean re players and positions in the game? Is there anywhere around that has good descriptions of the various defenses as they pertain to the game?

3. How do packages work (both offense and defense)?

Some more questions:

4. If i use my HC to set the depth chart and for the offence to use his game-plan, but set the OC as play-caller, will the OC be influenced by his offence style and anything else of the OC, or will it just use the OC's play-calling skill, but everything else will be based upon the HC?

5. Coach's Flexibility would cover impact of calling another coach's gameplan if it differed presumably? E.g. if the gameplan was based upon HC who favoured West Coach but your OC favoured Vertical, then their would be a negative impact, though their flexibility would help off-set it. I presume if they both have the same philosophy, then there there is no penalty, so Flexibility would not be an issue?

You shouldn't need to change positions for players if you just want to play them in certain slots on the depth chart. It may make things easier to see and track if you're doing it all of the time though.
Hybrid is when we blend defenses so the players ratings and such will affect their movement into and out of different coverages.
Packages are depth charts that you assign to different scenarios. So you may set up different packages for goal line, or for third down, etc.
If you set OC to play caller it will use the OC's playbook.
I don't think the flexibility effects are great enough to make those kind of decisions. You should use whichever game plan works best for your personnel.
