Hereafter

1/24: They're staying with us. Up 5 after 10. Down 4 at the half; we're not shooting well and we're not rebounding. Tied with 10 to play.

58-65. Shooting was terrible, 33.3%. Rebounding was awful, too, -8. 7 TOs but that didn't make up for it. -9 from the foul line, 0-10 on threes.

The only guy scoring was Dunn, 19, 8, 4, 3, and he was only 5-12.

Doon is getting Hara's minutes. Hara didn't give us anything.

Next is the one I'm really not looking forward to, my old team, California. Fortunately, we don't play at their place this season. That would have been very difficult; this is bad enough. They're not doing as well as I would have expected, 12-8, 3-4, but I KNOW they have talent.

We're still being pressured to mate with the Tralmorians. We're still against it, 12-0.

1/27: Back and forth early. Up 4 after 10. Up 7 at the half. Up 7 with 10 left.

90-76. We were tough late, especially inside. 23, 7, 7, 3 steals for Shay, 19, 11 for Bond, 13, 8, 4 steals for Dunn. Not much from the bench.

+13 RBs. Both teams shot 50%. We won it at the line, +13. +12 in the paint.

#3, NET #1. 19-2, 7-1. Tied with Utah for 1st, 1 up on Stanford.

Scot Shay is #7 on the Norton list.

12-8, 4-4 AZ ST is here. We won by 3 there. 22 TOs in that one. We were lucky to win. We should beat this team easily, but we need to take care of the ball.

“What!”

“We received a petition asking to move forward with mating with the Tralmorians.”

“Really!”

25% of the crew signed. Don't know if the organizers just stopped or if that's how many people want to do this, but clearly, the Council misread the crew's mood on this one.

Vote on 3/1.

1/31: It's close early. Down 4 after 10. Shooting .278. Up 1 at the half; missing open shots and even layups. A run! Up 16 with 10 to go.

67-55. Our D won this one for us. Held them to 33.9%. We shot only 38.9% and took 5 fewer shots. +7 at the line and three more threes. They beat us inside, but our guards stepped up, 24, 7, 3 for Shay, 11, 0, 5 for Ston. Dunn had 7, 17, 3, 4 steals. Those RBs were huge because no one else was rebounding for us.

Utah loses; we're alone in 1st and they're the only team 1 game back.

At 10-10, 4-5 Arizona next. I don't think they can score enough points, assuming we shoot better than we did last game. We can turn them over.

The petition and the issue it's about are the buzz on the ship. Everywhere I go, which is everywhere on the ship, this is what people are discussing.

2/3: It's a shootout early. Up 6 after 10. Up 10 at halftime. Up 11 with 10 to play.

75-70. They hung in all the way; never gave up. 22, 5, 5 for Shay, 14, 8, 3 for Dunn, 15, 2, 4 for Ston.

Stats were pretty even in all categories. We had just a little bit more.

Next up is the battle for 1st place. We're at 13-8, 8-2 Utah. They have 2 guys nursing injuries, one is a starter. Not sure if either will play or how much.

We score more, give up fewer, rebound better. If we play our game and make some shots we can do this. Good D will be important.

2/7: We take an early lead. They come back. Up 7 after 10. We're doing it inside. Tied at the half. The kind of game you'd expect. Up 5 with 10 left. Run!

86-78! 16, 6, 5 for Shay, 18, 3, 3 for Ston, 15, 8 for Dunn, 11, 10 for Bond. Terrific game for Ivan Fox, 11, 10, 6.

+9 RBs. We won it at the line, +9. +10 on 2nd chances.

Return match with USC, 13-9, 6-5. They beat us by 7 at their place. We didn't make shots and were beaten inside. This is a team that it's dangerous to underestimate. They're 4-2 against ranked teams.

Still a lot of talk about the vote on mating. The more I hear, the more I think it's going to be approved. Never would have believed it.

2/10: They take an early lead. Up 2 after 10 but they're giving us a battle. Down 3 at the half. I ramp up the D. Up 12 with 10 left.

91-73. We owned the 2nd half. Noel Bond had a career game, 32, 5, 4, 5 steals. 11, 3, 8 for Ston. They doubled Shay and shut him down.

6 TOs to 20. We shot 54.7%, made 9 more baskets.

We're 2 up on Utah and Stanford, 5 or more on the rest. Ranked #2.

At 6-17, 3-9 Washington ST. WE won by only 9 at our place. We shot poorly that night. On paper this is an easy win, but it wasn't last time, and now they have the home court.

2/14: Close early. Down 1 after 10. Our D is not here so far. Late run! Up 5 at the break. They're staying close. Up 4 with 10 left. We're finally taking charge.

88-70. One of these nights the slow start will hurt us badly in an important game.

30, 4, 4 for Shay, his season high. 13, 10, 3 for Rama, 11, 8 for Fox.

+7 RBs, 10 TOs. We win it at the line, 34-48 to 13-17.

At 12-12, 3-10 Oregon ST. We won by 15 there. We'd need to have a disastrous night to lose this one.

Shay is #6 on the Norton list.

2/17: Big early lead. Up 9 after 10. We fell asleep! Up 5 at the half. It was NOT a pleasant locker room! Up only 7 with 10 left.

102-87. Our D was awful but shooting 62.5% will make up for that, which it did. +15 from the line. +13 RBs.

18, 4, 9 for Shay, 17, 3, 7 for Ston, who has been mostly excellent. 20 for Rama, 13, 13 for Bond, 13, 8 for Dunn, 14, 4 for Fox.

Fox banged his head pretty badly. Out for about a week. Leaves us with a very short bench.

Still up by 2 with 4 to play.

At Washington, 13-12, 7-7. We won by 17 at home. We should win this one, but it's the road so we need to be focused.

2/28: We're playing catch up early. Up 3 after 10. Up 11 at the break. Rama is hot. Up 8 with 10 to go.

80-63. We led comfortably for about the last 25 minutes.

24, 6 for Rama, 14, 2, 3 for Shay. 13 TOs but they had 26, so good D. We hit 6 more shots, 8 more free throws.

Our last regular season game is with 10-19, 5-12 Colorado, here. This should be an easy win.

We vote tomorrow.

3/1: By a 2 1/2-1 margin the measure passes. Now it's taking care of the details. There are already volunteers.

3/3: Early lead. Up 10 after 10. Rama is hot. Up 22 at the break. Shay is scoring. Up 24 with 10 left. It's a yawner. Emptying the bench.

97-63. 28, 7 for Shay, 21, 11 for Rama, 21, 1, 9 for King, who is definitely back!

+21 RBs, 6 TOs. We shot 52.9% to 37.8%. +32 in the paint, +20 2nd chances.

We end the regular season alone in 1st in the PAC 12, up by 3 over Utah, 5 or more over the rest. 29-2, 17-1. #1 in the country. NET #1.

Lou Dunn shocks me by going pro. Scot Shay shocks me by staying. Shay is #5 on the Norton list.

We go after a C from Texas.

+13.6 PPG (#2 in PPG), +2.6 RBs, -7.4 TOs (#1 in TOs, #3 in TOs caused).

Shay leads us with 17.9; he led the conf. in scoring. All 5 starters get 10.5 or more, Fox gets 8.3, Ston gets 7.2.

Bond leads in RBs with 8.2. King gets 5,4 assists and Shay gets 4.3.

Are we really the best team in the country? I guess the post season will tell us, not that the best team always wins the national title.

3/9: We play #9 seed Oregon ST, 15-15, 5-13 in the quarters. We beat them by 15 both times.
