Hereafter

3/27: Only one #1 seed made it, yep, our next opponent, #2 ranked Illinois, 35-3. They're a big favorite. The offenses score about the same but their D is much stronger. They're 4-2 vs. ranked teams. Best backcourt we've faced all season and they can rebound.

4/1: We take an early lead. Up 4 after 10. Down 4 at the half. Craw has 3 fouls again. Balanced scoring. Their SG has 13; we know he's a scorer. +11 RBs, but 12 TOs to their 6. Shooting is about equal. -8 in the paint. They go on a big run. Down 17 with 10 left.

64-94, 28-54 in the 2nd half. Their starting guards had 30 and 32, almost enough to beat us just by themselves. 14, 10 for Rude, 10, 12 for Dunk, 13, 5 for Doli. Good run in the post season.

The dining halls opened and were at capacity. A lottery system was used, and will be for the foreseeable future so that everyone gets equal access. Once all 20 dining halls are open this shouldn't be necessary but that's a long way off.

Reports were that the food was great.

4/3: We lost to the national champs. #2 ranked Illinois won by 14 over #16 Duke.

Had a terrific lamb saag with samosas at the Indian dining hall this evening. The place was packed. We have reservations at the Asian
place for 4/6.

4/4: Awards: I get Big East COY; kind of surprised. Dar Dunk and Doy Craw make the 1st team. PG Kev Buck makes 2nd team. They're all coming back. VERY high expectations for next season.

4/6: Excellent food at the Asian restaurant. I had sushi, Hali had a Japanese dish and June had Chinese. We all loved our food. Chan has really put together great teams at these two new dining halls.

4/9: We hit most of our goals. TP goes from 72 to 79.

I'm not going anywhere.

4/23: I ask for money. We have a decent budget but not at the level of the very highest schools.

We get $16,000. It helps but we really need another $100,000.

30-9, 10-6. Overall, 568-151, .790.

Hali and I are working on surveys. The first will be about work. How people feel about their jobs, about the number of hours they work, about their co-workers and supervisors... We'll submit it for Council approval tomorrow.

4/24: The Council made a couple of suggestions and Hali and I made the changes. We start distribution tomorrow and will have results in a few days.

4/29: The Council will come to order. Jed, let's hear about the survey results.

“Sure. 761 people responded. Given that we have 88 children too young to work, that means 761 out of 796, or 95.6% response rate, which is very impressive. The good news is that 88.5% are Mostly Satisfied or Greatly Satisfied with their jobs and working conditions. It's clear that there are a couple of supervisors who are not popular, but only a couple.

“Most people think our 32 hour work week is about right; 14% want to work fewer hours.

“A question about why work for everyone, given that we have the ability to have robots do at least 65% of the work, gave some interesting answers. We allowed for narrative responses to that question. People realize that they would have too much free time on their hands if they didn't work and many of them feel that they would have difficulty filling those hours in meaningful ways. Some talked about more holo chambers and more holo programs as a way to counter that, and that's our next survey.”

Lots of questions. Council members wanted to know who the disliked supervisors were, but the survey really didn't provide that information. I know who they are because I see all of the departments several times each week, but until the Chair or the Council ask, I'm not telling. It's not for an outsider to resolve this. Frankly, both the Captain and the Chair should be aware of who these people are. I suspect they are. Why they are choosing not to act is a puzzle to me. We have people capable of replacing them in both cases. Not my department, I guess.

(Author's note: Taking a little break while I ponder whether to bring this Dynasty over to DDS:CB 2022.)

5/1: (Imported to DDS:CB 2022)

Preseason #7. #5 recruiting class.

We buy the National Premium and International Basic. I'd like to be able to buy the international premium but we need a bigger budget to do that.

5/29: Ouch! We lose 4 players. Ash Hosi would have gotten sub minutes. Dan Reid would likely have been our #3 guard. Ry Eron would not have gotten many minutes. Toma Jaco would have gotten sub minutes. The problem is inside. We're down to 3 inside players. 2 are very good but we'll need to land some transfers, and may need to go with a three guard lineup this season.

(Author's Note: Crap! I got used to the 100 point scale in the beta testing for 2022. I don't see a way to change from the 10 point scale I'm using with this association.)

6/3: Dining halls #3, #4 , #5 open. An Italian, an American, and a junk/comfort food. People are loving it. August will bring another Indian, another Asian, and another junk/comfort.

6/5: 1st round of transfers: We offer to 3 Bs, 2 bigs and a PG, and 2 unrated bigs. 0-5.

6/6: Round 2: Offer to 1 A, 3 Bs, 1 C. 3-5. 2 Bs and a C, all bigs, so that's a relief. They all look like they will get minutes.

6/7: Round 3: Looking for 2 more to fill the roster; 2 guards or 1 and 1. We offer to 2 Cs, a big and a guard. Got both. Probably practice players.

6/25: We're going to all the camps.

Survey on holos is out. We'll have the results in a couple of days.

6/26: 6 scholarships to fill. We'd like 3 and 3.

6/28: “Jed, tell us about the survey on holo chambers.”

“94.5% participation. People have very strong feelings about this and the feelings are all over the place. First, people LOVE the holos, and for every conceivable reason. Overwhelmingly, they want more of them, and MANY pointed out there a ship built to house more than 2000, that now has 884 on board has plenty of space to house more holos. Second, there's a lot of controversy over some of the programs.”

“Sex.”

“Yes, sex, and degree of danger allowed.”

“We've never censored what people can do in the holos.”

“Interestingly enough, 289 people want us to.”

“Wow! Really?”

“From what we've gathered almost all of them are people in relationships who feel cheated on.”

“But you can't cheat with something that isn't even real!”

“Evidently, that's not how nearly 300 people feel.”

“That's an issue for our therapists to deal with. No way we should censor.”

“Again, lots of people disagree.”

“As a Council I don't think we can intervene here. There's no danger to anyone, there is zero chance of a holo being transmitting any kind of STD. I agree with Mick for once. This is a counselling issue. Mick?”

“You know what I always say. No top down decision making. Put it to a referendum. It won't pass, and then we can say, hey, we let the people decide, which is always a good idea.”

“Make that in the form of a motion, Mick.”

He did. It passed 8-4. The referendum will be held in a month.

“You talked about degree of danger, Jed.”

“Hali, you take this one.”

“People can do some pretty dangerous things in the holo chambers and still be quite safe.”

“So who has a problem with that!”

“Actually, Mick, 148 people said there's too much danger, and 299 said there could be more danger.”

(Lots of comments and emotion. It took awhile for the Chair to restore order.)

“As Council Chair I believe we have a duty to protect our crew members. I think it would be a very foolish idea to allow a higher degree of danger in the holo chambers.”

“Madam Chair, I move that we conduct another survey, solely on this issue. Let's see what people think when this is the only issue they're being asked about.”

There was a second and it passed unanimously.

“Other findings, Jed?”

“Nothing of significance. People want holos. We have 100 people on deck 2, and 80 each on decks 3-8, the other 334 scattered among decks 9 to 20, with the most on deck 16, 52.”

“So, how many holos do we have now?”

“We operate 12 holo chambers.”

“I move that there be one holo on each of levels 2-8, and 3 each on levels 9-18. We know there's no room on 1, 19, and 20. That would be a total of 37 holos.”

“Not enough! I say one each on 2-8, and 5 each on 9-18. That's 57 for 884 people. A little better than one for every 16 people.”

“That's a waste of resources!”

“What does it hurt? We have the resources. With that many, any wait times would be minimal and we could remove the maximum hour limit on usage.”

A LONG debate followed. Mick's amended motion for 57 holo chambers passed by a 7-5 margin.

“Madam Chair, I'm going to steal Mick's thunder here. I move that we bring this to referendum. The question is shall the ship ad enough holos to get to 57. People vote yes or no. If they vote no they tell us whether it's too many or too few.”

“Amend the motion. People who vote yes should also be able to say whether they think there should be more or fewer. Otherwise it's skewed.”

The amended motion passed.

Referendum on 8/1: Question 1: Do we censor what goes on in the holos or not.

Question 2: Do we move to 57 holos or not.

Question 3: Rather than a survey, a referendum question on degree of danger allowed.

8/2: The ballots have been counted:

Question 1: 588 opposed to censoring what goes on in the holos, 287 in favor. Defeated.

Question 2: 711 in favor of 57 holos, 133 opposed. Of the 844 ballots, 579 wanted 57 or more, 265 wanted 57 or less.

Question 3: Degree of danger: 431 wanted no change, 413 wanted to allow more danger.

“As Chair, it's obvious that we have agreement on the first 2 questions but we are deeply divided on Question 3. Suggestions?”

“Education, alternatives, specifics- information.”

“I move that the Chair appoint a committee of 5 to study this issue and report back in a month.”

“A month isn't enough time. Amend to three months.”

The amended motion passed 8-4. I managed to NOT be appointed. Thank goodness!

8/7: 3 people on the Norton list: PG Shay Webb is #12, C Doy Craw is #39, and PF Jan Wall is #46. No Dar Dunk? Hard to believe! His credentials are MUCH better than either Craw or Wall. Maybe it will motivate him...

8/21: We offer to 3 PGs, a PF, and 2 Cs.

Hali and I have been hiking every day that we can find time to do it. Sometimes June joins us but being 15 she often has her own agenda. It's nice when she does join us.

9/11: We make our home visits. I wish we could do 6!

9/18: We get 3, lose 2. Our #1, a PG rated at #3 overall, a PG rated #26, and a C rated #32. We lost a big and offer to another one.

We have a schedule. We open at the Coaches Classic vs. ST Louis. All but one pre-conf game is vs. a ranked team. 4 against ranked teams in conf.

9/25: We get 1, lose 2. We get a PG, #40. We are going to try to get 2 bigs but we need to look at some guys we were only marginally interested in. We now have 3 PGs and a C.

We offer to 2 PFs.

10/2: Both guys we offered to said no. We offer to one more. We think we have a shot at him.

First day of practice. We look good, and we're deep!

10/9: We lose the big that we offered to. We'll look again in the Spring.

11/2: “The committee on the degree of danger allowed in the holos will report.”

“Madam Chair, we have come up with an educational program. We recommend that a greater degree of danger be allowed in the holo, but before being allowed to use it, people must pass a training course taught by a holographic instructor, in the particular area of increased danger, whether it be auto racing, mountain climbing, or whatever. We are in the process of programming these instructors.”

“So what do we do when someone gets seriously hurt, permanently disabled, or dies?”

"Good question. That's for the Council to decide. We wanted to present an option in case the Council decides that adults who want to risk their necks should be able to do so after passing a course that explains in detail what the risks are, how serious they are, and teaches the people how to minimize them as much as possible.”

The debate was long and heated.

In the end the committee's recommendations passed, 7-5. But implementation was delayed pending full training of all instructors. Minors are not allowed to increase the current danger level and all holo programs make their danger level expressly clear.

11/12: Here's our lineup:

At PG is frosh Shay Webb, who is VERY highly regarded.

Senior Kev Buck moves from PG to SG.

#3 guard is frosh Deon Sund who would start for a lot of teams. #4 is senior Aldo Doli who started last season and the season before but these frosh are amazing, or look like they will be. #5 guard is senior Jay Baxx, a transfer from Miami, FL.

Senior Jan Wall, a transfer from Duke, is at SF. He started all 3 years there.

Junior Dar Dunk is back at PF. He's a solid, world class player.

Senior Doy Craw is back at C. He did a great job for us there last season.

#1 big off the bench is senior Rafe Bray, a transfer from Michigan where he started. We won't lose much when he steps in. #2 is soph Nat Gard, a transfer from Seton Hall where he started. He can play. Soph Brad Gain started at Memphis last season. Finally we have walk on Ty Hays, strictly a practice player.

11/12: Season starts tomorrow at the Coaches Classic against #14 seed ST Louis. We're the #3 seed. On paper this is a walk over.

11/13: They come out fast but we quickly recover. Up 10 after 10. 45-34 at the half. 12 for Wall, 11 for Dunk, 8 for Craw; the bigs are scoring very easily and we have only 1 TO. +14 in the paint and +7 RBs. Up 22 with 10 left. The bigs are dominating.

83-63. It was never in doubt. 20, 8 for Dunk, 18, 4 for Wall, 12, 8 for Craw, 12, 3 for Brai, the 1st big off the bench. So we did it inside, 62 points. +12 RBs, 7 TOs, +26 in the paint.

11/14: #6 seed Kansas ST, 1-0, in the quarter finals. We're a big favorite. They scored inside in their opener but they didn't rebound.

The #9 seed beat #8 but all the other favorites advanced.

11/15: We take an early lead. Up 14 after 10. 42-28 at the half. 17, 4 for Craw. Up 13 with 10 to play.

81-64. Easy win. Our starting front court had 61, there's had 18.

31, 11 for Craw, 14, 9, 3 for Dunk, 16, 4 for Wall, 11, 5, 7 for PG Shay Webb.

8 TOs, +20 in the paint.

Jan Wall: Coming her from Duke just might have been a good idea. They're good, I think we're better.

11/16: #2 seed, #10 ranked Michigan ST in the semifinals. We're a big favorite. They're only scoring 67.5 a game. But their D has been lock down. They have very good guards.

11/17: They take an early lead. Down 6 after 10. Up 5 at halftime. We were down 11 at one point. 8 and 9 for Dunk. +12 for our bench. +15 RBs, +16 in the paint. Our inside game has been scary good so far this season. 1st big of the bench, Rafe Brai has 9 and 3. 11 fouls called on us and 4 on them. Up 8 with 10 to go. We take control.

86-64. Our D has been remarkably consistent, giving up 63 in the first game and 64 in each of the last 2. We've scored in the 80s in all 3 games.

15, 14, 2, 3 steals, 3 blocks for Dunk, who held his man to 3. 13, 13, 4, 2, 3 for Craw, 13, 4 for Brai. It's the big guys again. 50 RBs, +26 in the paint.

Coach Clark: I'm thinking if we win the national title I might move on and see about building up a new program. I really enjoy the challenge of doing that.
