3/23: #5 seed, #18 ranked Alabama, 21-11, is next. They can score outside.

3/24: We take the lead right away. Up only 2 after 10. 45-39 at the half. 18, 8 for Burr. Varo has 3 fouls. It's close in the second half. Up 2 with 10 to play. Then we go on a run.

84-72. 33, 18 for Burr, 17, 9, 3, 3 for Brit. 50 RBs.

New Mexico and Arizona become the 47th and 48th states in the union.

3/25: We will play #2 seed, #7 ranked Virginia, 29-6, in the round of 8. Their starting C broke his hand in their last game. We are heavily favored but they play very good defense and they can score outside.

3/26: It is close early on. A run puts us up by 8 after 10. 38-28 at halftime. 8 fewer turnovers. Up 14 with 10 to go.

72-53. 20, 8, 2, 3 for Burr, 19, 7 for Hart. We forced an unbelievable 31 turnovers while committing only 9.

3/31: We are in the Final Four! Our national semifinal game is against #2 seed, #5 ranked Michigan ST, 28-7. We beat them by 19 in the regular season, dominating inside and playing them even outside. They are favored but we think that if we play well we can defeat them.

4/1: We take an early lead but they catch up. It is tied after 10 minutes. 42-37 at the break. 13 for Brit. Their Point Guard has 3 fouls.
Their bench is keeping the score close. We lead by 13 with 10 to play.

78-69. 20, 13 for Burr, 20, 4, 4, 3, 3 blocks for Brit, 15, 11 for Hart.10 turnovers to 22.

4/2: We face #1 seed, #1 ranked Kansas, 33-4, in the national title game. They beat us by 8 in Storrs. They outscored us outside and slightly outplayed us inside. They have a lot of weapons and they are favored to win.

4/3: Both teams start slow. We lead by 9 after 10. 48-33 at the half as they shoot 25.7%. Brit has 3 fouls, as does his man and their SF. 11, 10 for Hart, 11 for Brit. We're playing better inside.

“This is not over. They can be explosive.”

We get the lead to 20 quickly. Up 18 with 10 to play. They are not catching us!

94-66 and the national title! 21, 16, 3 blocks for hart, 21, 9 for Burr, 16, 4, 3 for Brit, 15, 6, 3, 4, 5 blocks for Arms. 44-8 in the paint. 6 turnovers to 23.

4/4: Awards: Jeb Burr was tournament MOP. In Conf. A we were shut out. Surprising.

4/9: I am staying here at UConn. Our Team prestige rises from 84 to 93.

4/21: Apparently the Titanic, a gigantic ship that boasted of being unsinkable, has been sunk by an iceberg. Hundreds are missing and presumed dead.

4/23: I ask for money.

32-6 and the national title. For 11 seasons I am 307-63, .830.

My plan is to stay for a year or two then go to a Conf. V team and see how far I can take them.

5/1: Preseason #2. Recruit class #3.

We buy the National Gold report.

5/29: We lose a soph guard who had a lot of potential but wasn't ready. We'll probably go after a big man.

Round 1: We offer to an A rated C who has us in his top 10. Didn't get him.

Round 2: We offer to an A rated PF. Got him, and he'll start.

This Titanic shipwreck is quite the story. It happened about 6 weeks ago and it is still in the newspapers every day.

6/14: “Hello Jake.”

“Mr. Smithfield! What's brings you to my office?”

“I wanted to tell you in person. Emma died in childbirth last night.”

“Oh my! That's terrible. I am so very sorry.”

“Thank you. The pregnancy had gone very smoothly all the way and she was joyful when the time for the birth came. Unfortunately, it was extremely difficult, and both she and the child perished.”

There's so little one can say at a time like this. We spoke a while longer and Mr. Smithfield took his leave.

I am left to ponder my entire relationship with Emma. I loved her very much when we were together and have never quite gotten over her rejection of me. This is a very large part of the reason why I have never married. I doubt that I ever shall.

6/25: We will attend only the Indy camp.

6/26: We have 2 scholarships and we need guards.

Emma's death, and my memories of her, have been keeping me awake nights. Even though we have been apart for a long time, this news has deeply affected me.

“I Love You Truly” is the new popular song. I think it is a bit slow but I predict it will be played at weddings for years to come.

8/7: Jeb Burr is #5 on the Norton list. Milt Hart is #11, and Ivan Brit #12.

8/21: We offer to an SG and a PG. The SG is a long shot.

The plague of the automobile continues to increase. There are more and more of them all the time. I simply do not understand why people undergo the expense of owning one of these toys when the trolley and the railroad so efficiently take people everywhere they need and want to go. And I see aeroplanes in the skies with increasing frequency. I see no meaningful purpose to these flying gadgets, which, I read in the papers, have a tendency to fall out of the sky and kill all of those aboard.

9/18: Got 'em both, the SG is #1! The PG is #21.

No in season tournament this season. As tough a schedule as we could manage but it's not all that tough.

10/2: 1st day of practice. We'll challenge for the championship again this year.

The election is the primary news. With about 5 weeks to go I still believe the division between Mr. Taft and Mr. Roosevelt will hand the Presidency to Mr. Wilson. I am voting for Mr. Roosevelt.

11/12: Here's the lineup, not much different from last season”

Senior Rich Nash is back at PG.

Senior Ivan Brit is back at SG.

#3 guard is junior Todd Hask who is a very good player. #4 is junior Pete Sims, who can play. #5 is frosh Mica Aldo, who is still developing.

Junior Jeb Burr is back at SF; he is a superstar.

Soph Milt Hart is back at PF, and has looked excellent in practice.

Our only new starter is soph Rob Norv, who started for Michigan last season.

1st big man off the bench is junior Cam Brox, an excellent defender. 2nd is juco junior Cris Abra, a very good rebounder. 3rd is frosh Jess Talo, who needs to improve his defense. Last comes frosh Matt Scott, who is still developing.

As I thought he would, Mr. Wilson won the election and will take over the Presidency in March.

11/27: We started the season with a 63-60 win over #9 West Virginia here. Their SG was unstoppable with 32. 15, 2, 3 for Nash, 9, 18, 4 for Burr. This went right down to the final seconds.

We had an easier time with ST Mary, 82-59 here. We were never challenged. 22, 12, 3 for Burr, 18, 18, 4 for PF Milt Hart, 17, 6, 9, 3 for Brit. +25 RBs.

We tromped Cincinnati here, 91-63. Brit had 23, 4, 10, 4. 13, 5, 6, 4, 3 blocks for C Rob Norv, 14, 13 for Hart, 18, 0, 5 for Nash. Huge edge inside.

Unfortunately, Jeb Burr hurt his back. It is not serious but he will miss our next game. Cam Brox will start in his place.

93-64 over Florida here. We were up only 4 at the half but we utterly dominated the 2nd. 33, 7, 4, 5 for Brit, 13, 5 for Norv. +12 for the bench. +19 RBs, only 10 turnovers.

Burr will return to the lineup for our next game.

We are 4-0, ranked #5.

I am less than enchanted with much of this year's new music. Oh well, there are so many wonderful old songs to listen to, and they are featured in most concerts I attend.

The big story of the year, even now, seven months after the event, is the sinking of the Titanic. Interviews with survivors continue to be printed in newspapers and magazines. Shamefully, there were not nearly enough lifeboats on the ship. That means that many of the hundreds of deaths should never have occurred.

12/18: 73-52 over Iowa ST. We led all the way. 23, 15, 3 for Burr. 16, 7, 6, 3 for Brit, 14, 6 for Norv. Once again we were in total; control inside. 11 turnovers.

Unfortunately, early in the game starting PF Milt Hart suffered a fractured index finger on his shooting hand. He is out for two months.

Jeb Burr will move to PF and Cam Brox will start at SF.

79-59 over Stanford here. The beat goes on, 50-24 at the half. 24, 4, 10, 3 for Brit, 15, 7 for Norv. 9 turnovers.

80-67 over #18 Ohio ST at Storrs. We led by 20 at the half. Big game for Burr, 22 and 20. 31, 6, 7, 4 for Brit, 18, 5, 3, 4 blocks for Norv. We were dominant inside and had only 9 turnovers.

89-59 over #15 Syracuse here. Up 25 at the half. 18, 7, 8 for Brit, who has played outstanding ball. 14, 11, 3 for Burr, 19, 4 for Norv. 7 turnovers and excellent inside play.

We are 8-0, #5, NET #3.

1/8/1913: 79-58 over Indiana, here. Yet another game that we led all the way. 20, 17, 3, 6, 3 for Burr, 20, 6, 4 for Norv, 14, 5, 5 for Brit. 10 turnovers to 25.

83-64 over #9 North Carolina at Gampel Pavilion. 21, 14, 1, 3, 5 blocks for Burr, 25, 5, 5, 4 for Brit, 12, 8, 5 for Norv.

76-57 over Kona in our last pre-conf game. 15, 13 for Burr, 14, 8, 8, 3 for Brit, 18, 5, 3, 4 for sub guard Todd Hask, 10, 11, 5 for Norv. 11 fewer turnovers.

Interestingly enough we have yet to play away from home!

+20.5 PPG, +12.9 RBs, -8.0 turnovers, a very good 10.8 per game. +7.5 assists, +5.0 steals.

Ivan Brit leads with 20.4 PPG. 15.3 for Brit, 13.6 for Norv. Burr leads with a very good 14.3 rebounds. 9.8 for the injured Milt Hart. 7.0 assists for Brit, and 3.0 steals. Burr blocks 2.5 shots.
