Hereafter

Oh hell! Not sure if there is a hell in your Hereafter of course.

But I really don't understand why thee wasn't a backup...weird. Well maybe I do if you opened the misnamed version and played and saved that one..then I guess the backup at that point would be the other association file.

Anyway, sorry to hear you lost this association. Another reason for going back to how we used to have two on-going saves (and A and B) for associations.

I'm going to restart it. Make up an ending for the current season and go from there. Too much invested in this one to let it die.

btw: if the Krai or Ooomili or any other characters show up in your other dynasty, we'll know that DDSCB is much more insidious than we ever thought possible.

Re: Hereafter

Postby Wayne23 » Wed Jun 01, 2022 8:58 pm

3/9: We play #8 seed Miami, 16-14, 9-11, in the quarter finals. We won by 25 last week. If we play our game we don't think they can beat us.

Author's Note: I lost this association- for the 2nd time, actually. I am “creating the rest of the 2059-2060 season).

3/10: The Krai desire to come aboard, travel with us. This is something of a surprise as they have never left their planet's surface.

3/12: Given that the Krai are the size of honey bees we really can't give them the run of the ship. It would be too easy for them to be stepped on. They are being housed in a holo chamber and we escort them on tours of the things they want to see in the ship, which is everything. They seem satisfied with this arrangement.

3/22: “Jed Clark, it is our desire to colonize other planets. We would like to leave representatives on board your ship. When you go to a planet, if it is habitable by the Krai, some of us will go down to the planet. If it is to our liking we will colonize it with half our numbers. The other half will remain on the ship, increase reproductive activities to bring the numbers up to capacity.”

It's a bit difficult to speak with them in that they do not have names. Given the hive mind they are all one being. I asked if this would be an issue if they were in different locations separated by vast distances. The answer was not helpful:

“No. This will not be a problem.”

The Krai declined to explain further.

I explained to the Krai that having some of them come with us was a matter for the Council to decide. They asked if they could speak to the Council when we met. I agreed to allow that.

3/26: The Council met. The Krai presented some excellent arguments. After a long discussion we voted 10-2 to allow them to travel with us. It will be slightly inconvenient in that from time to time we will need to escort them through the ship, but we felt this sort of fit under “cultural exchange,” and we thought our mission kind of meant that we should do this.

4/3: We lost the ACC title game to Louisville, and lost in the Elite 8 to Kansas.

4/9: I am going to Iowa. (Author's note; Due to losing the save and having to create a new association, Duke wasn't one of my options for coaching. Iowa was.

4/23: We end the regular season at 36-4. For 36 seasons I wind up 1157-221, .840.

5/1: Iowa is unranked in the preseason. #48 recruiting class.

We are travelling through space again. The Krai asked that they be allowed to sit in on Council meetings with no vote but the right to ask questions. We compromised. They were welcome to sit in, but questions would be sent via ship electronic mail to the Council member from whom they wanted an answer, or, most of the time, to me.

We can afford only the National and International basic scouting reports.

6/25: We will attend the Indy, and all of the regional camps.

6/26: We have 5 scholarships to fill. We need 2 guards and 3 bigs.

7/15: Pretty much business as usual aboard ship. I've been doing a lot more hiking lately. It's great exercise.

8/7: Nobody on the Norton list.

8/21: We offer to 2 PGs, an SF, a PF, and a C.

The Krai don't always follow the rules. Fortunately, they can jump, and hover in the air for awhile. When they decide to go exploring on their own, which is STRONGLY discouraged, they are too small for us to see. People on board tend to be in a hurry, and we often move quickly to wherever we're going.

Fortunately, there has not yet been an accident, but sooner or later one of the Krai is bound to be stepped on, which would almost certainly be fatal.

We talk about this with them all the time.

“We are capable of jumping and hovering, Jed Clark. We are safe.”

There's also that hive mind thing. We're pretty sure that if one of them dies it means nothing the the Krai as a whole, it's just one less in the hive mind.

9/11: We lose a PG.

9/18: We get 3, lose 2. We get our top 3, an SF, ranked #11, a PF, #20, a PG, #26.

Going to Fallen Heroes vs. Kent ST. Challenging schedule.

9/25: We get one, lose one., We get a C, #44. We need a guard.

10/2: We get a C, #46. We're through recruiting until the spring. If anyone transfers then, we'll heat up the search. Meanwhile we're identifying and contacting possibilities.

1st day of practice. We look decent. We're picked to finish 2nd in the Big 10. I think that's optimistic. My boss wants us to win the conference tournament. I think that's VERY ambitious!

11/12: Here's the lineup:

Senior Jack Sill is at the point. He does a lot of things well and we think he'll do a good job.

Senior Aron Johs is at SG. We have high expectations for him.

#3 guard is frosh Moe Fine. He could start if we needed him to. #4 is junior Al Whit, who is decent. Next is Nick Duho a junior who is fairly good. Last
guard is Bri Doot, a soph who has a lot of work to do.

Senior Mel Wilk starts at SF. He's a good shooter and a good defender.

Senior Tony Anda is at PF, and we have high expectations.

Junior Art Laky starts at C. Like most of our starters he is good but not great.

1st big off the bench is frosh Dal Matt; he rebounds well but everything else needs work. Val Robb is a frosh who is not ready. Senior Paul Scot never really developed. Junior Roy Dani plays poor D.

So we start 4 seniors and a junior. We're deep outside but not inside.

11/19: We opened against Syracuse here and beat them 77-61. We led for the last 36 minutes, by as many as 25. Our guards did a great job, 18, 3 for #3 guard Moe Fine, 18, 3 for SG Aron Johs, 14, 1, 8 for PG Jack Sill. Our inside players Our inside players were out played.

Then we lost a heart breaker, 68-69, at Colorado. It was close all the way, with never more than a 7 point gap. Johs hit a 15 footer with 1.7 seconds left, then their PG hit a half court miracle shot at the end. There was a very long discussion about whether the shot was released on time. The referees eventually decided that it was. I wish there were some way to know for certain, but there isn't, so it is a judgment call. This judgment caused us to lose the game. I am honestly not certain whether the shot was legitimate or not.

18 with 4 steals for Johs, 14, 4 for C Art Laky, 13, 10 for PF Tony Anda. Our inside players were -10 on the boards. They were better tonight, but still not close to as good as we need them to be.

Someone stepped on a Krai. It was killed, of course.

The rest of the Krai knew instantly, of course. I began to apologize and-

“Do not fear, Jed Clark. We are the Krai. We are one. We continue.”

“But the Krai who was killed-”

“The Krai are one. We live. The individual units allow us to see more, to understand better. But the Krai are one. We live.”

Okay... I think that means that the only thing that matters is the hive mind. There is no individuality, and the individual units have no separate and distinct identity. That's very interesting.

“Other units will be destroyed, Jed Clark. We increase reproductive activity to keep our numbers maximized.”

11/20: We're the #1 seed in the Fallen Heroes tourney. We play #8 Kent ST, 0-1. They lost their opener by 34 to an unranked team and got only 18 boards.

11/21: It's close early. We go on a run and lead by 11 after 10. They come back. 36-39 at the half. Laky has 10 but he has 3 fouls. Sill also has 10. The difference is the bench, -8. Up 5 with 10 to play. Then we go on a run.

77-72. 16, 6, 5, 3 for Sill, 15, 1, 5, 5 for Johs, 14, 5 for Laky. We were -8 on the boards but +14 in the paint. 10 TOs to 23. Our guards are our strength.

Starting PG Jack Sill hurt his wrist and is out of the tournament. Johs will switch to PG and Fine will start at SG.
