Statement by the GM

Postby brutusbrutus » Wed Jun 08, 2011 6:49 pm

"This will be our last rebuilding year, I implore the fans to stay with us, there is a plan ahead for this team. We have a young core, that will only get better, we have a proven coach, financial flexibility and many draft picks in line for next year. Who knows with the talent we have we could even surprise a few people this year."

Top Prospects 2012

Postby brutusbrutus » Wed Jun 08, 2011 7:04 pm

1. C, Jim Turner: The premire center of the draft, he has a lot of upside.
2. PF, John Towns: My personal favorite player in the draft, I am really hoping that he falls to number 5, although I don't suspect he will. Towns has a good post game and plays defense.
3. C, Alex Singletary: Essentially a consolation prize for whomever misses out on Turner, or Towns not a bad prospect but 3 is pretty high for him.
4. SG, David McDermott: My second favorite player in this draft, a great shooter who can flat out score.
5. SG, Bryan Hall: Hall is essentially a lesser version of McDermott it looks like. He would be a good pick at number 5, but I doubt he will ever light the world on fire. Hall also seems to have an attitude problem which I really don't like.
6. PG, Jamar Underwood: A very raw but talented PG, he shoots first passes second, but his athletic ability is hard to ignore.
7. C, Alonzo Price: He is mostly high in the draft because of potential, he really hasn't shown much at the college level.
8. SF, Marco Sharp: Sharp absolutely killed in college scoring more than 30 points per game, it may be hard to ignore this prospect even with the number 5 pick.
9. SF, Akakide Saginashvili: A skilled Estonian who no one knows too much about, he is the mystery of the draft.
10. SF, Lance Nabors: A raw prospect, definitely a project.
11. PG, Gordie Smith: A pass first point guard who could with proper mentoring make an impact in the NBA.
12. SF, Rahim Towns: An older player who went to all four years of college, he is not spectacular but he is a safe pick to make an impact almost immediately.
13. SF, Robbe Ray: A Belgian slasher with a lot of confidence that he can make it on the biggest stage in the world.
14. SF, Kyle Webb: Undersized SF/PF who somehow gets rebounds and scores despite his physical limitations.

My top 5 picks.

Number 1: John Towns(I will pick him if available)
Number 2: David McDermott
Number 3: Jim Turner
Number 4: Bryan Hall
Number 5: Marco Sharp

2012 Draft(Top 10 picks)

Postby brutusbrutus » Wed Jun 08, 2011 7:11 pm

1. Marco Sharp! In a shocker the clippers selected Sharp, his 30+ points a game in college really impressed the Clippers.
2. John Towns: I was hopping Towns would fall to number 5, but the Sacramento Kings picked him up.
3. Shaginashivili: Another shocker Detroit picked up the Estonia phenom known as... I don't want to type his name again.
4. Bryan Hall: I am extremely glad Hall was drafted ahead of McDermott who I believe is a superior version of Hall.
5. David McDermott: I am elated to get this pick, I think he stands a good chance to get the ROTY award.
6. Turner: The favorite to go No. 1 dropped to No. 6 this draft is filled with good prospects but none stood out as the true no. 1 in workouts. Turner was disappointing to some in his workouts.
7. Singletary: Solid pick at 7, he may be a good player.
8. Rahim Townes: This was expected New York is high on this kid.
9. Ray: Ray was drafted around where he was suppose to be drafted, maybe a little higher.
10. Nabors: Great pick by the Bucks in my opinion.

The No. 18 pick

Postby brutusbrutus » Wed Jun 08, 2011 7:14 pm

I selected PG Jon Cook, he loves the 3 and I hope in a few years he will be a solid backup.

Contract decisions

Postby brutusbrutus » Wed Jun 08, 2011 7:17 pm

The following players were renounced

Kosta Koufos: No surprise here
Antwan Jamison: We now have extreme financial flexibility thanks to his massive contract not being on the books.
Anthony Tolliver: Respect him as a player, he has great fundamentals, just not a lot of skill. I'd love to invite Tolliver back as a coach or in the front office someday.
Hasheem Thabeat: To think he was drafted at No. 2 hopefully some other team can make something out of his great physical tools.

Off-Season Goals

Postby brutusbrutus » Wed Jun 08, 2011 7:26 pm

The Backcourt: Our backcourt is out best asset, we have the PG Travis Tennell, who had a very promising rookie season, 13 points and 6 assists is not bad for a rookie who logged in just under 29 minutes per night. I have high hopes for this kid. At SG we have David McDermott an extremely skilled shooter with the ability to draw fouls and to back him up we have one of the best shooters in the league in Anthony Morrow. Then there is Jon Cook and Luke Ridnour that can back up the point. There is absolutely nothing I need to do to improve a very promising backcourt.

Small Forward: All though Teoh only scored 8.8 points per game last year he improved dramatically on the other end of the floor, he is one of our best defensive players. Teoh is also getting better at rebounding and distributing, if he continues to improve he will definitely be able to hold his own defensively with any SF in the league, his offensive game will develop in time although I don't expect him to ever light the world afire with offense. Rasual Butler is another offensive liability at SF, even more so than the rookie Teoh but his defense is still top notch.

Power Forward: The number one thing the team needs is a starting PF, right now the only PF on the roster is Craig Smith, although Smith is good in bursts he is not starting calibur.

Center: Justin Henderson and Nikola Pekovic have been competing for the starting center job and I believe that Pekovic has won this battle hands down. Justin Henderson won rookie of the year on the strength of his rebounding. I will be looking to trade Henderson hopefully capitalizing on his rookie of the year campaign.
