3/9: We play #6 seed Seton Hall, 17-10, 9-9, in the quarter finals. We lost by 1 there, won by 11 here.

3/10: 81-70. We led all the way. 7 players had 10 or more. 12 RBs for Center Tag Hunt. We play 7 and they have all been doing their part.

#2 seed, #25 ranked Providence, 22-6, 14-4, in the semifinals. We won by 17 at home then lost by 25 there. They are very strong inside but we think we are, too.

3/11: 20 TOs, poor inside D, and unusually weak bench play did us in. 22, 6 for Chap, 13, 5, 3 for Evan.

21-9, 12-6, RPI #15. We’re hoping for a #4 seed.

3/12: #7! With an RPI of 15 we’re a #7? Outrageous! We’re in the Midwest and we play #10 seed North Carolina ST, 18-12. They have a very good outside game, and an excellent SF.

3/16: 60-74. They took an early lead and expanded it to 20. We never led, and really never got close. Not happy with the way we played in the post season.

We’re losing our entire starting front line, Chap, Hunt, and Evan.

4/3: #1 Kentucky won it all.

4/4: Awards: Cris Chap made Big East 1st team. That’s it.

4/9: No decent offers.

4/23: I ask for a budget increase. Got $11,000.

21-10, 12-6, Overall 107-52, .673.

Dust storms are destroying land over a huge area of the u.S. millions are losing their small family farms.

The world situation continues to be unstable and dangerous.

While the U. S. and world economy really are not any better, at least here in the U. S., due to FDR’s policies, far fewer are starving and freezing.

5/1: We buy the Midwest gold.

6/5: We’re looking at transfers. We offer to an SG and an SF.

6/12: No luck.

6/26: 4 scholarships. We need at least 3 inside players.

8/21: We offer to a PG, a PF, and 2 Cs.

German soldiers express a loyalty oath not to Germany, but to Hitler personally.

Japan is building up its military.

At home, gangster John Dillinger is killed by the FBI as he comes out of a movie theater. He was pointed out to the FBI by “the lady in red.”

9/18: Got 2, lost 2. Got a PF, #181, and a C, #794.

Golden ST Classic vs. Alabama ST. Tougher schedule.

9/25: Got a PG, #193. Lost the other one.

10/2: Lost another big man. Still need to find one.

1st day of practice.

We’re picked 6th. I’m aiming for 3rd.

10/9: We get the PF, #74.

11/6: 7 man rotation to start:

Efan Dodu, a junior transfer from Michigan, is at PG.

Soph Rono Frea starts at SG, subs at PG. Junior Lem Ward subs at SG.

Soph Kev Lund, a transfer from Arizona, starts at SF.

Senior Del Keep starts at PF, subs at C. Frosh Davy Park subs at SF and PF.

Frosh Josh Baer starts at C.

11/20: 2-0 start. SG Rono Frea, C Josh Baer, and 6th man SF/PF Davy Park looked good in both games.

All 4 recruits sign.

12/4: 4-1 We lost to #4 New Mexico there. Sf Kev Lund and SG Rono Frea are leading us in PPG. 6th man Davy Park and PF Del Keep lead in RBs. #3 guard Lem Ward is taking minutes from Efan Dodu; not starting yet, but if he keeps playing the way he is, he will.

One more road game then off to the Golden ST Classic vs. Alabama ST. We’re the #2 seed, they’re #7.

12/9: 67-61. 18, 5 for Ward, 17, 5 for PF Del Keep, 10, 6, 3, 3, 2 for 6th man Davy Park. +11 TOs but -14 RBs. The bench won it for us tonight.

#3 seed Tulsa, 5-2, in the semifinals.

12/10: 66-54. 22, 6 for SF Key Lund, 12, 7 for Park, 10, 5, 3 for Keep, 13 for Frea. +12 TOs.

Ward will start for Dodu at the Point. Davy Park will start at C for Josh Baer.

#1 seed, #6 ranked Florida, 6-1, for the title. Tough matchup, they’re very good.

12/11: 55-72. They were too much for us. 15, 8 for Keep, 12 for Ward, 11 for Lund.

12/25: We are 7-4 going to Big East play. RPI #44. -1.0 PPG, -3.6 RBs, +3.0 TOs. SF Kev Lund leads us with 15.5 PPG, but we have trouble scoring points.

We’re still tinkering with the lineup.

1/1/1935: 1-1 to start Big East play. We really have not found ourselves as a team yet.

Unemployment peaked at about 25%. It is now at about 17%, still terrible, but getting better.

1/15: 10-7, 3-3. RPI #40. Nice win vs. #19 Georgetown here, but then we lost a road game we should have won. We’re struggling, and we still have not come together as a team. (Author’s note: I just noticed that when I took the job at Butler I completely forgot to go to Strategies and put in my system. I just did that now so I expect that the team will go downhill for a while, until they learn the new system.)

1/29: 14-7, 7-3, RPI #25. We’re in 3rd place, 1 game back of 1st. +0.7 PPG, -3.0 RBs, +4.0 TOs. SF Kev Lund leads us in scoring with 14.2, but points are still hard to get for this team. Davy Park leads us in RBs. (Author’s Note: I guess going to my system was a good idea!)

Amelia Earhart is the nation’s darling. She continues to set new records in flying.

Hitler’s Nazis are murdering their enemies in record numbers.

2/12: 16-9, 9-5, alone in 3rd. RPI #24. Some tough road games in this stretch.

2/26: We end the regular season 19-10, 12-6, RPI #20, alone in 3rd. +1.5 PPG (but #312), -1.9 RBs, +3.2 TOs.

3/9: We play #6 seed St. John’s, 15-12, 8-10, in the quarters. We won by 8 at home, lost by 7 there.

3/10: 75-68. 19 for PG Lem Ward, 12, 12, 4 for C Davy Park, 12, 5, 4, 3 for SF Kev Lund. Great bench play. +11 RBs. That has not been a strength so it’s nice to see.

#2 seed Seton Hall, 20-8, 14-4, in the semis. They won by 14 there, then we won by 23 here.

3/11: 69-62. 25, 5, 3 for Ward, 14, 11 for PF Del Keep. Great win!

It’s #1 seed, #15 ranked Georgetown, 24-6, 14-4, for the title. They beat us twice, badly at their place.

3/12: 64-72. We played well, but we just don’t score points. 14, 15 for Keep.

21-11, 12-6, RPI #17, going to tourney selection. We’re hoping for a #4 or a #5 seed.

Seriously disrespected yet again, #8 South. We play #9 seed Houston, 21-8. They lost their starting PG to grades.

3/17: 63-73. We fell apart in the 2nd half. And yet again, we just don’t score points. #306 right now.

We have some good looking players coming in, and we’re only losing one guy who gets any playing time, our PF, Del Keep, but a good offer would get me to move.

4/3: #1 Duke won it all.

4/4: Awards: Kev Lund made the Big East 1st team. Davy Park and Del Keep made 2nd team.

4/9: We’re staying. Texas Tech tempted us, but not enough.

All kinds of trouble from Germany. Hitler has now violated the treaty of Versailles, beginning conscription for all able bodied 19 year olds.

Persia is renamed Iran.

Huge dust storms continue to plague large areas of the U. S.

4/23: I ask for a budget increase. We get $11,500.

21-12, 12-6. Overall, I’m 128-64, .667, after 6 seasons as a head coach.

5/1: We buy the Midwest gold, National basic.

5/7: The Works Progress Administration (WPA) is formed by FDR, creating millions of new jobs.

5/25: Last night the first ever Major league baseball night game was played.

6/5: 1 slot for a transfer and there’s a player we like.

Babe Ruth retires. Many consider him to be the greatest baseball player of all time, although many others give that title to Ty Cobb.

6/12: No luck.

6/26: 4 scholarships. We need 4 guards.

8/14: The Social Security Act is passed and becomes law.

8/21: We offer to 4 PGs.

9/9: Populist U. S. Senator Huey Long is assassinated.

9/15: More laws restricting the freedoms of Jews are passed in Germany.

9/18: We get one, lose 2. We get #193.

No in season tournament.

9/25: Got one, lost one. Got #239.

10/2: We got the last 2, #121 and #191.

1st day of practice.

We’re picked 5th in the Big East. Our goal is to finish in the top 3.

Mussolini invades Ethiopia. Time Magazine supports him in an overtly racist article.

New York Governor Lehman asks FDR to increase the quota for Jewish immigrants. FDR says there is no quota and denies the request. This is NOT his finest hour.

11/6: 10 man rotation for now. The starters are very well set, but the subs will battle for time:

Senior Lem Ward is at PG and junior Rono Frea is at SG. Senior Hal Mack subs at PG amd senior Efan Dodu subs at SG.

Junior Kev Lund starts at SF, subs at PF. Junior Kent Prye, soph Davy Park, and frosh Lon Wood all sub at SF.

Soph Josh Baer starts at PF, subs at C.

Junior Mike Herr starts at C.

No doubt there will be changes.

11/20: 2-0 start. Terrific D so far.

One of our recruits did not sign, which means we’ll be looking for another one.

Mao Zedong’s “long march” ends with about 20,000 arriving in the north of China.

12/4: 5-1. We lost by 4 at #10 New Mexico.

As was the case last year we have trouble scoring points, but so far this season we’re #1 in PPG Allowed. New Mexico scored 59, the most we’ve allowed.

12/25: 6-3 heading to Big East play. RPI #. +4.1 PPG, +2.7 RBs, +5.0 TOs. We have no one scoring more than 11.0 PPG (Lund). Herr leads us with 8.6 RBs.

We’re #326 in PPG, but #4 in PPG Allowed.

Brutal Chinese dictator Chiang Kai-shek and communist leader Mao Zedong continue to have skirmishes. Zedong’s forces are growing, but are not yet strong enough to confront Kai-shek directly. The question of whether the Chinese people would be better off under one than the other is problematic at best.

1/1/1936: 1-1 start, but we played the best team in the conf., #22 Georgetown, there. Most points we’ve given up all season- 81. But in the next game we scored the most we’ve scored all season- also 81.

1/15: 9-6, 3-3, RPI #98. We’re just not making much progress. I’m going to look long and hard at moving on after this season.

1/29: 12-7, 6-4, RPI #83. We beat #21 Georgetown by 15 here, and we’re in a 4 way tie for 3rd. +4.0 PPG, +1.5 RBs, +3.8 TOs.

That recruit, as expected, did not hit our score.

In England King George dies. His oldest son becomes Edward VIII.

2/12: 16-7, 10-4, RPI #60. Late season surge again this year; we’re on a 7 game win streak, 8 of 9. Tied for 2nd, 1 back of 1st, 2 up on 4th.

2/26: We end the regular season with an 11 game win streak, 20-7, 14-4, tied for 1st. +6.0 PPG, +1.4 RBs, +4.4 TOs.

Franco consolidates his power in Spain. The fascist tide is rising in many countries.

3/9: We’re the #1 seed in the Big East tournament. We play last place Marquette, 12-16, 5-13, in the quarters.

3/10: 61-38. 17, 5 for SG Mike Herr, 10, 6, 6 for SF Davy Park, 10, 6 for PG Efan Dodu. +14 TOs.

#2 seed, #21 ranked Georgetown was upset.

#3 seed St. John’s, 18-10, 12-6, in the semis. We split during the regular season.

3/11: 62-66. We fell way, WAY behind, by 21. We came back, but never quite got there. Our inside game just wasn’t there. The win streak ends at 12.

21-8, 14-4, RPI #57.

3/12: #11 Midwest. We play #6, Big East rival Georgetown, 21-7. We split during the regular season.

3/16: 52-62. Dodu had 14. No one else did much of anything.

4/3: #2 Florida wins it all.

4/4: Awards: Mike Herr makes the Big East 2nd team.

4/9: A good offer and I’m out of here.

We’re going to LSU! It’s a rebuilding job as 4 starters are graduating.

4/16: We need a #2 assistant. Can’t get anyone worth crap.

4/23: I ask for $. No.

Overall record is 149-73, .671, after 7 seasons.

Construction of the hoover Dam is completed.

Hitler continues to violate the Treaty of Versailles. He reoccupies the Rhineland. Winston Churchill is denounced in the House of Commons for speaking strongly against Hitler’s actions.

5/1: We buy the Southeast Gold.

6/5: looking at transfers.

6/12: We get a PG and a C.

6/26: 4 scholarships. We need 3 inside players.

Italy annexes Ethopia.

Max Schmeling knocks out Joe Louis in 12 rounds.

8/21: We offer to 3 PFs and a PG.

The summer Olympics are being held in Nazi Germany. Hitler is using the games to bring worldwide attention to his bigoted, hate filled movement and beliefs. Thankfully, Jesse Owens is smashing the disgusting myth of Arian supremacy.

Franco is turning Spain into the same kind of murderous repressive society that exists in Germany and Italy, and is beginning to take hold in Japan.

The Soviet Union, under Communist dictator Josef Stalin, is just as bad, and right wing dictator Chiang Kai-shek is also as bad in China.

9/18: We get 1, lose 2. We get a PF, #134.

Invited to the WS Midwest, vs. Wyoming. We’re going for the easiest schedule we can get because this team will struggle greatly in conference.

9/25: We get another PF, #141, and lose the other 2.

10/2: We get a PG, #68, and lose a big guy. One more to go.

1st day of practice. It’s going to be a LONG season.

We’re picked 6th in the 14 team SEC. I would be very happy with that.

11/6: 7 man rotation:

Senior Vic Lews starts at PG.

Soph Dan Cage starts at SG, backs up at PG.

Junior Bob Chan backs up at SG.

Senior Rown Gare is at SF, backed by frosh Du Froe, who starts at PF.

Soph Ron Liva is at C.

Frosh Jin Jaro backs up at PF and C.

This team has not yet come together. Hoping it happens soon. Also hoping injuries don’t strike. We are NOT deep.

FDR wins re-election in the biggest landslide in U. S. Presidential election history. His opponent, Alf Landon gets 37% of the vote and wins 8 electoral votes.

Franco is now called Generalissimo.
