2015 NBA Draft

1 – Los Angeles Lakers – C Matt Bailey
No doubt about it, the clear cut #1 choice for the draft.

2 – Cleveland – C MAXIME Videnov
I didn’t think he would go this high but he does have his advantages. Huge body and a fantastic rebounder.

3 – Denver – PF Joshua Potter
Great pick as he has picked up a bit of a post game which will complement his outside game.

4 – Atlanta – PG Jermaine Carroll
Huge (6’5, 207lbs) PG is a great floor general. I would have thought they would go with one of the excellent SGs on the board but not a bad pick.

5 – New Orleans – SG Kyle Craig
Very, very good scorer who is being compared to Dwayne Wade. Not as good but has a similar playing style.

6 – Cleveland – SG Matt Davis
Probably better than Craig at the moment and is a nugget of a player. Great rebounder for his size and the Cavs have come out with a good draft at the moment.

7 – Milwaukee – SF Jason Thornton
Still young but is a knock down shot. Good defender as well so will fit in well with the defensive focus of the Bucks. Might have been reaching but still a decent pick.

8 – New Orleans – PG Brian Iacona
Skinny guard but will play well with Kyle Craig. Very quick player and will be a starter in the league.

9 – San Antonio – PG Carlton Abrams
Even skinnier than Iacona at only 156lbs and will be beaten up on defence. Decent PG but is a reach for the Spurs.

10 – Los Angeles Clippers – C Mike Ohnstad
Fantastic pickup and he is a blocking monster and can spread the floor out to 15 feet. Dropped like a stone and is a steal for the Clips.

11 – Memphis – PF Tyron Younger
Look at this, the Grizzlies have drafted another PF. Great rebounder and is clutch in crunch time. Good pick but the Grizzlies picked TWO PFs last year and already have Claudio Carrera on the team.

12 – Indiana – PG Dana Moore
Not a good shooter but is a decent passer. A little turnover prone which will need to be reduced. A reach at #12.

13 – Boston – C Derrick Chambless
Is a great shooter, even to three point range. They wanted a C at any cost and they have reached a long way to pick one.

14 – Orlando – SF Jason Roe
I really liked this guy as he is a great worker and is a great passer. Not the best shooter but will help out with the rebounds and defence. Solid pick.

15 – Golden State – C David Phillips
Very much a reach here, as Phillips can’t shoot, is soft and has terrible defence. If Boston reached then Golden State fell off their chair trying to reach for Phillips.

16 – Sacramento – SG Demond Neeser
Great pick for the tall Neeser. An extremely streaky shooter but when he is on he is hotter than anyone on the court. Great pick.

17 – Phoenix – SF James Harris
Hmm, I don’t like this pick. The experts like it but Harris is just too inconsistent to be picked here, but I hope I’m wrong for his sake.

18 – Los Angeles Lakers – SG Eric Marshall
A retro player as he is not the best athlete but has a great head on his shoulders and will have no qualms about taking his opponent down low and post up.

19 – Chicago – SG Derrick Magloire
Was probably looking for Marshall but Magloire is still good. Very raw but if he gets it all together then he will be a decent fringe starter.

20 – Houston – SG Estell Phillips
The hometown guy gets picked up by the Rockets and it’s a huge steal. I wouldn’t be surprised that he starts sometime during the year as he is a fantastic pick. Houston should give gift baskets to the teams who overlooked him.

21 – New Jersey – PG Cerrah Melen
The Turkish national team player is small but can jump out of the gym. Great conditioning and has fantastic hands. Dropped a little and the Nets are happy.

22 – Dallas – PG Jeremy Dumic
Another case of a team wanting a player and the player being picked right before the team. So they reach and Dallas did just that.

23 – Charlotte – PF Erik Jones
Quite a slow player and has poor hands but when he holds onto the ball then no-one can get remove it. Good pick for the position they are in.

24 – Los Angeles Lakers – PF Kyle Colter
Very good rebounder and leaper, and is improving every day. Give him time and he will pay off for the Lakers.

25 – Philadelphia – C Ime Livas
Who? Oh that’s right; it’s the massive kid who can do a 360 dunk. And when I say massive he is as big as MAXIME. Too bad he doesn’t have much skill in any other areas but being tall and athletic will keep him in the league for a while.

26 – Cleveland – PF DJ Welch
Is an absolute monster dunker and he loves to dunk. If he could marry dunking and have little dunking kids he would. Decent pick-up for #26 as he will be a rotation player.

27 – Indiana – PG Mike Harris
Another decent pick up late in the first round and he is a great spot up shooter so can be brought off the bench for a sharpshooter. Not a great defender as he is a small frame but he won’t be on the court for his defence.

28 – New York – PG Myron Anderson
6’6 PG who is pretty much a spot up shooter. I don’t know if he is going to get any playing time with both Raymond Felton and Varlam Bebutov above him in the depth chart.

29 – Miami – SF Sean Scruggs
I love this guy because of his last name. Scruggs just sounds awesome. Is a great three point shooter and that is all Miami needs with the Big Three on the court.

30 – Miami (from Toronto) – PF Brian Henderson
We traded this pick to get Kenny Costa which I’m happy about as even though Henderson dropped and will be a decent bench player, Costa will be a much better player.

There were a few trades including a big one.

Charlotte trades:
PG Louis Williams

New Jersey trades:
PF Yi Jianlian

Why for Charlotte:
The Bobcats have Povilas Tailos and Kyle Lowry at the PG position as well as the legendary Kobe Bryant at SG so Williams was being squeezed out. They also needed some big man depth so in comes Yi who will be the first big off the bench.

Why for New Jersey:
The Nets are basically in the opposite position to the Bobcats. They need some guard depth while their big man depth is adequate. Louis Williams becomes the first guard off the bench.

Winner – Both
They both got what they needed and gave away what they didn’t need.

New York trades:
SG Kelenna Azubuike

Cleveland trades:
PG George Hill

Why for New York:
Azubuike was owed over $12 million in two years while Hill is an expiring. George Hill will be good off the bench but won’t get as much playing time as he did in Cleveland.

Why for Cleveland:
Matt Davis looks like the real deal but is still very young, so he will need some mentoring. Azubuike has been around and will push Davis to fulfil his potential.

Winner – New York
Hill is an expiring and they weren’t really using Azubuike so they get what they want out of the deal.

Portland trades:
PG LaVell Deeter

Cleveland trades:
C Kenneth Thornton

Why for Portland:
They drafted Thornton last year but traded him on draft day. They must have had buyer’s remorse and got him back. Thornton is a great defending big man and will complement both Greg Oden and Chris Kaman.

Why for Cleveland:
Deeter is the opposite of Thornton as he is a great offensive player but a very poor defender. Will be valuable for the Cavs as he is a good PG who will take over from Clark Kimm.

Winner – Portland
They fixed a mistake and have a very good front line now.

Minnesota trades:
SG Corey Hines

Detroit trades:
PG Adam Holley

Why for Minnesota:
They were sick of Hines and had to get rid of him, getting a quality replacement in Holley. They had SG Travis Howard backing up Ricky Rubio so getting a proper back-up PG was crucial.

Why for Detroit:
They have tried to pick up the great but spoilt players with Travis Randolph and now they try again. Hines can be a great player but his attitude has held him back so for Detroit’s sake he clicks.

Winner – Minnesota
Any time a team trades away Corey Hines they will win the trade.

Indiana trades:
SF Danny Granger

Milwaukee trades:
PF Josh Smith

Why for Indiana:
They have decided that they need more defence and more front court depth so they trade away their best scorer for a better defender. Hasheem Walker has been decent at SF and they slide Greg Monroe to the bench as a super-sub.

Why for Milwaukee:
Andrew Reed has been a very big surprise as he was outplaying Smith in some occasions so they ship out the older Smith and bring in a huge piece in Danny Granger. He may be 32 years old but Granger can fill up the stat sheet as good as anyone and will make the Bucks very dangerous.

Winner – Milwaukee
The Bucks are looking very dangerous now as Granger may be the missing piece for them to be a contender.

Huge trade for Milwaukee as they look very good with a B. Jennings/M. Thornton/D. Granger/ A. Reed/D. Floyd lineup.

How is your game going? You are with the Celtics aren't you?
If you were to win the NBA Championship but fail to meet the budgetary requirements, you would only lose one ball regarding your job security. In fact, the owner may even overlook it if you sound contrite enough during the chat to review your performance. At least, that was the case in Pro Basketball 1. I doubt that Gary has overhauled this aspect of the game in Pro Basketball 2.

The Celtics are doing well. We won two NBA Championships in my two seasons in charge. We were very lucky in my first season, as we managed to avoid the Heat and Lakers, which could have significant matchup problems. In my second season, we were able to edge out the Heat 4-3 in a titanic struggle before beating the Trail Blazers 4-1 in the NBA Finals.

But bear in mind that I have global control. Hence, amongst others, I have been able to alter the coaching philosophy in accordance with the peculiarities of my roster.

I pick up Reggie Williams’ team option of around $6 million but I think he should be coming off the bench because I want to see what Trent Bailey can do in a starting role. I also renounce Chuck Hayes and Earl Watson, but keep onto Matt Simpson, while Kevin King is a restricted free agent. After he finally succeeded in getting his championship, Shane Battier has retired and will be a great coach one day.

Kenny Costa, Trent Bailey and Hassan Trivuncic all get invited to the summer league circuit as well as a few scrubs on the free agency pile.

Our first game is against Orlando as we go down 101-92. Trent Bailey excelled at his natural position scoring 25 points while Kenny Costa chipped in with 17 points. These games aren’t about winning but more about seeing diamonds in the rough.

Utah gets some revenge as the wallop us 106-88. Trent Bailey again plays well with 26 points but we have a massive 30 turnovers to their 14.

We lose again, this time to Chicago 110-102 with Trent Bailey scoring 22 points, and Kenny Costa having 18 points and 8 assists.

Zero from four at the moment with a 107-88 loss to New Orleans as #5 pick Kyle Craig has 24 points while #8 pick Brian Iacona has 19 points and 8 assists. Hassan Trivuncic breaks out for 22 points while Trent Bailey has 18 points and 6 turnovers. Craig looks the real deal and has a great shot of leading all rookies in scoring next season. He won’t win ROY, as that is pretty much sown up by #1 pick Matt Bailey who looks very impressive.

We go winless in the summer league with a 103-91 loss to the Clippers. Scott Channing shows his class with 25 points and 9 rebounds as Rob Hall on our side top scores with 17 points and 7 rebounds.

I’m glad we don’t have to rely on these guys during the regular season or we would be in trouble.

It’s free agency time and the top ten prospects are –
SF Kevin King*
PF LaMarcus Aldridge
PF Carlos Boozer
PG Varlam Bebutov*
C Al Horford
C Michael Nicholson*
C DeMarcus Cousins
PF Jason Beck*
PG Boleslav Silajdic*
PF JJ Hickson

First things first I offer Kevin King a 6 year, $90 million contract. It’s not the max because he is a restricted free agent I want to see if I can get him a little cheaper. I fully expect to eventually sign him to a max contract but I’m just creating some wiggle room. I can’t sign Matt Simpson to anything other than the minimum which is disappointing, so I throw a 5 year, $5.7 million contract which I’m pretty sure he will reject but I will keep offering it until he listens.

Kevin King re-signs with us for a 6 year, $93.6 million which is around $11 million less than a max contract which is good for us.

Brandon Dawson signs with Indiana which is strange because he plays very similar to Eric Gordon.

The second of the top ten players is off the market with DeMarcus Cousins re-signing with Sacramento. However, Matt Simpson wanted more money; I can’t blame him, signing with Indiana for 2 years and around $5 million. So I offer Boris Diaw and Emeka Okafor 2 year minimum deals in the hopes they want to chase a ring.

It’s tender offer signing day with James Blanchard, Scott Williams, Jarian Turner, Michael Nicholson, Tibor Pleiss, Jason Beck, Boleslav Silajdic and Ricky Rubio all staying with their clubs for at least one more year. The only restricted free agent that didn’t sign a tender offer is Varlam Bebutov who re-signed with New York for a 6 year, $81 million contract in the hopes that he actually gets to start with them.

Big News! LaMarcus Aldridge has taken his talent to Hollywood by signing a 5 year, $68 million contract with the Lakers in a huge coup for the re-tooliing Lakers. Aldridge will pair with #1 pick Matt Bailey who now becomes a formidable foe in the front court.

Al Horford re-signs with the Lakers for $64 million which I thought is strange as he seems to be a locker room cancer. On the same day JJ Hickson signs with Detroit for 5 years worth $44 million. There is now only one of the top ten players still available as Carlos Boozer has not made his mind up yet.

The next day Boozer re-signs with Chicago for 3 years worth $35 million which is a good move while Emeka Okafor signs with us for a 2 year minimum deal with Boris Diaw still up in the air.

He made his mind up as he signs with us on the same day ex-Raptor Kris Humphries gets paid with a 2 year; $10.4 million contract to go to Phoenix.

Training camp comes and goes and Kenny Costa looks really good. Sure he is still a little raw but he has great potential.

Congrats on your Toronto title! It looks like all the pieces of the jigsaw puzzle came together nicely - repeating will be hard (though you do have rudy t as head coach, and you'll remember his famous line... "Never underestimate the heart of a champion"

Barring injuries to key players such as Howard and King during the playoffs, I predict that the Raptors will repeat as NBA Champions.

Our first game in our quest to defend our title is against New York and we win comfortably 120-102. All our starters were on target –
Kevin King – 19 points, 7 rebounds, 7 assists
Tim Mozgov – 24 points, 14 rebounds
Dwight Howard – 16 points, 10 rebounds
Trent Bailey – 20 points
Rajon Rondo – 21 points, 13 assists

I guess the bench couldn’t do much else. Raymond Felton top scored for the Knicks with 22 points on 23 shots while recently cashed-up Varlam Bebutov had a terrible game with 12 points and 4 turnovers.

Toronto Raptors 1-0

In the first game of the season, LaMarcus Aldridge went up against his old team and won 100-85 with the Lakers as he went off with 22 points and 18 rebounds.

In our next game we lead by as much as 49 points in our demolition of Boston 131-83 as we shoot 61% from the field. No starter played more than 30 minutes as it was truly embarrassing for the Celtics. Kevin King had 29 points, 10 assists and 7 rebounds, helped out by Tim Mozgov’s 24 points, 10 rebounds and 5 blocks. Two of our bench players stepped up with Reggie Williams shooting 8/11 for 18 points in 22 minutes and Ed Davis had 13 points in 11 minutes. Andrea Bargnani top scored with 18 but it was over in the first quarter as we outscored them 45-18, which is quite frankly ridiculous.

Toronto Raptors 2-0

Chris Bosh is still out with a torn tendon so we take advantage of that with a 112-86 win in Miami. Dwight Howard beat up the subpar Heat bigs with 24 points and 17 rebounds while Kevin King pitched in with 26 points. Lebron James ate Trent Bailey for dinner with 33 points and fouling out Bailey in only 12 minutes. Dwayne Wade was again shut down by Rajon Rondo as he only had 9 points and 5 turnovers.

Toronto Raptors 3-0

Sacramento has a big line-up but we have a better one as we rout them 103-80 behind Kevin King’s all around performance of 18 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists. Trent Bailey was also fantastic with 7 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists to get the jackpot. Tyreke Evans had 22 points, but he needed 23 shots and turned it over 5 times, while Rodney Benoit had 20 points as well.

Toronto Raptors 4-0

106-90 is the score of our next win, this time over Washington. Kevin King shoots 22 free throws (making 16) for 32 points, while Dwight Howard shoots 18 freebies (making 10) for 24 points and 14 rebounds as four Wizard players foul out. Tim Mozgov is close to a triple double with 7 points, 10 rebounds and 7 blocks. Gilbert Arenas schools Trent Bailey for 25 points and John Wall helps his backcourt buddy with 16 points.

Toronto Raptors 5-0

We beat the Magic 117-93 but it was still a great match-up battle between Tim Mozgov and Blake Griffin with Mozgov coming out the victory. The big Russian had 30 points, 16 rebounds and 4 blocks to the ex-Raptor’s 27 points, 7 rebounds and 5 blocks. There weren’t many other highlights as most of the time the rock was pushed into the post as often as possible.

Toronto Raptors 6-0

It’s an NBA Finals rematch going up against Utah and the ending is the same as we win 104-95 behind Rajon Rondo’s dismantling of Deron Williams for 27 points and 6 assists. Reggie Williams has been great off the bench, and tonight had 16 points on 7/8 shooting. Corey Maggette of all people had a great game with 31 points and 5 assists.

Toronto Raptors 7-0

Our streak continues behind one of THE best games I have ever witnessed, and I have seen my share. Dwight Howard had 14 points, 19 rebounds and 10 blocks to extinguish New York as we won 114-87. He was truly dominant as the Knick bigs had no answer for him. Rajon Rondo had 16 points and 12 assists while DeMar DeRozan had 14 points off the bench. Danilo Gallinari did his thing with 20 points but most of those shots were from the outside as no-one dared to face the wrath of Superman.

Toronto Raptors 8-0
Unfortunately Dwight hurt his leg and will be seeing less minutes and might possibly be coming off the bench for the next few games.

Tim Mozgov revels in Howard’s absence with 26 points and 18 rebounds in our 105-85 win over Milwaukee as Danny Granger stinks it up with 8 points and 5 turnovers on 3/12 shooting. Rajon Rondo chips in with 18 points and 17 assists. Marcus Thornton top scores for the Bucks with 32 points but they didn’t have an answer for Mozgov.

Toronto Raptors 9-0

It’s 10 wins to start the season with a 113-90 win over Denver as Tim Mozgov stars again with 26 points and 15 rebounds, helped by Dwight Howard’s bench production of 14 points and 11 rebounds in only 15 minutes. That must be one of the most efficient games of all time. Newly acquired Travis Randolph (yes he has been traded again) has 9 points, 12 rebounds and 6 blocks but couldn’t handle the two headed beast of Howard and Mozgov.

Toronto Raptors 10-0

A couple of nights later Tyreke Evans has 48 points on only 16 shots, going 24/25 from the line in their 118-99 win over the new Nevada Neon (formerly Atlanta Hawks).

Our streak is broken with a 117-94 drubbing from Minnesota. Their guards killed us with Evan Turner having 26 points, Ricky Rubio with 21 points and bench guard Anthony Morrow with 20 points as they shot 12/19 from the three. Dwight Howard is back with 15 points, 19 rebounds and 7 blocks with Kevin King having 24 points but their shooting was lights out.

Toronto Raptors 10-1

We get it back with a 116-90 win over Golden State thanks to our big man duo has Dwight Howard had 29 points and 8 rebounds while Tim Mozgov had 21 points and 20 rebounds which is I think he first 20/20 game. For the Warriors it was their guards again with Monta Ellis having 21 points and Steph Curry with 23 points but their starting C, Marcus Mance fouled out in only 10 minutes. It’s good to have two great big men who play off each other so well.

Toronto Raptors 11-1

The Clippers score a woeful 68 points for the game as they shot 28% from the field, while we scored 109 points in our 12th win of the season. Dwight Howard was again player of the game with 20 points and 16 rebounds but Tim Mozgov is coming into his own with 17 points, 12 rebounds and 5 blocks. Maybe they have a competition going on to see who has the best season. Boris Diaw is our best bench player with 10 points in 12 minutes. As you would expect, no-one on the Clippers played well with Nicolas Batum top scoring with 13 points, while Scott Channing was the biggest villan going 4/18 for 9 points.

Toronto Raptors 12-1

Kobe Bryant breaks free from the Raptor defence as he has 25 points in their 107-93 win. Povilas Tailos shows that he was worthy of being selected #1 with 20 points and 12 assists. Trent Bailey played his worst game in the starting line-up going 4/19 for only 9 points. Reggie Williams was the best for us with 17 points in 17 minutes.

Toronto Raptors 12-2

Our last game of the month is a 108-82 win over Orlando. Kevin King has 24 points while D&M (Dwight and Mozgov) both had double doubles. Trent Bailey struck back with 19 points. The Magic had no-one of importance in this game as Blake Griffin only shot 7 shots for 13 points.

Toronto Raptors 13-2

Our record puts us in first place in the East, with Philadelphia 1.5 games behind us at 11-3. New York is third while Orlando is floundering at 4-12, dead last in the conference.

In the West, Oklahoma City is leading with a 13-3 record and the Lakers are only 3.5 games behind them with Matt Bailey starting, so look for Al Horford to get pissy and get traded again. Utah is last with a 5-11 record, only a half game behind the Neon.

I will be away from this dynasty for about 2-3 weeks. Don't worry I have a good reason, I will be seeing my brother (and other sights) in Japan. It will be the first time we (my girlfriend and me) will be going overseas together and hopefully when we come back she will have an extra bit of jewellery if you catch my drift.

You won't miss me much as there is new dynasties popping up all over the place so you won't be left wanting a great story.

Whereabouts in Japan? I've always wanted to go there, especially to visit Kyoto and a few Shinto shrines.

I shall be keeping my fingers crossed for you.

I miss the days of my exchange fellowship in Kanagawa prefecture. Enjoy!

We will be arriving in Osaka, going to Kyoto then to Okazaki (where my brother lives), then Tokyo and back to Osaka to fly back to Melbourne. I want to go to the Osaka Aquarium, they have a freaking Whale Shark there but the Kyoto shrines and temples are very high on our list.
