The number of fans in Rabobank Arena continues to grow as we post some unexpected wins and have some exciting games.

We played solid defense in the first half, holding the Wolverines to 35% shooting and came away with a 31-21 halftime lead. We had very balanced scoring so Mike Settles’ 6 points was high for us.

Our domination of the Wolverines continued throughout the 2nd half, as our defense completely bottled them up. Our entire bench got extensive playing time.

Final Score: CSU Bakersfield-66, Utah Valley-39. CSU Bakersfield season record: 8-11; Great West record: 4-2 (2nd place tie).

Scoring leaders: Jones-13, Settles-12.

Other notes: Our defense was stellar throughout the game. We held Utah Valley’s shooting to 31% and forced them into 17 turnovers. We also dominated the boards 38-26 and hit 47% of our shots.

Now that we’ve had some great close and exciting games and some wins, we’re initiating some actions aimed at increasing attendance:

1. Creation of the “Roadrunners Boosters Club”. They will have their own section in Rabobank Arena for all home games and those who can travel to away games will do so as “Roadrunner Roadies”.
2. Sale of “Roadrunner” tshirts and hats
3. “The Roadrunners 5K Race”—beginning and finishing at Rabobank Arena
4. “The Roadrunners Road Rally”—a road rally beginning and finishing at Rabobank Arena (sine this is Bakersfield, the vehicles involved will be pickups rather than sports cars)
5. Roadrunners T-Shirts tossed out to the crowd at halftime
6. Roadrunner/Wily Coyote characters trying to one-up each other before games, at halftime, and during time outs
7. Contest at each home game: HALFtime shots from HALFcourt for HALF a thousand dollars
8. Halftime Roadrunner Races…two fans (typically students) running the length of the court, having to sink a basket from the foul line, then running back down court, and having to sink a basket at the other end from the foul line
9. Upgrading of food and refreshments at Rabobank Arena
10. “Meep Meep” sounds for our public address system during games

Ouch! I've started with teams like that. It can be fun, actually. I'm out of there after 2-3 years though. It's not THAT much fun!

Game #20; Jan. 25, 2012; CSU Bakersfield Roadrunners (8-11, 4-2) at TX Pan American Broncos (5-15, 3-3)(

After losing their first 12 games this season, the Broncos have surprised many (much as have we) playing against Great West opponents. It’s hard to know whether the good or bad team will come onto the court against us tonight.

We played from behind most of the 1st half, but overtook the Broncos late in the half and went to the locker room ahead 42-37. We hit 48% of our shots. Jeremy Powers scored 12 points and David Johnson had 10 points for us.

The second half was a shootout. Both teams hit at a high percentage and the lead shifted back and forth during the middle portion of the half. We pulled ahead in the final minutes and won another game on the road.

Final Score: CSU Bakersfield-89, TX Pan American-82. CSU Bakersfield season record: 9-11; Great West record: 5-2 (1st place tie).

In a topsy-turvy conference, our 5-2 record has tied us with Seattle and New Jersey Tech for the top spot.
