Recruiting

Postby randy » Sun Mar 24, 2013 3:33 am

I didn't get much luck in recruiting this season. My targeted JuCos didn't want to join our program. Out of 8 scholarship slots, we were able to fill in only
3 (all from Texas)

1. PG Joem Thomas (6-3, 217), JuCo, rank #43 national
2. SF Tyrone Willis (6-7, 208), HS SR, rank #280 national
3. SG Paul Slater (6-4, 177), HS SR, rank #1698 national

6. Mark Belton
- 102 games (51 starts), 16.5 mpg, 4.4 ppg, 3.4 rpg, 0.7 apg, 0.5. spg, 0.2 bpg, 49% FG, 75% FT
- 4.0 GPA

7. Jonathan Smith

Cook and Carr are most likely to get drafted in the NBA. Majerus, Coulibaly, and probably even Granville may even have a shot.

Strategies

Postby randy » Sun Mar 24, 2013 6:05 am

Lineup
With the lack of depth up front, I will go with a 3-guard lineup this season

Guards: F Griffin, Thomas, Burditt
Forwards: K Griffin, Rowles

Sub (guards): Slater, Cook (walk on)
Sub (SF): Jeffries (walk on)
Sub (PF/C): Doss (walk on)

9 man rotation, 3 of which are walk on players. It is going to be a long season for us
Changes in Philosophy
With the shift to a small lineup, we'll be increasing the pace to 7 (we used mostly 4 last season)

Also, we will try to get more transition baskets, hence lowering the def rebounding intensity to 7
Strategies
Focus: Balanced (if opposition is using 2-3 zone, we'll go Favor Outside)

Off Sets: We'll continue to practice more on Motion offense

HC Def Sets: We started giving more focus on playing 2-3 zone

Pressure Def Sets: Shift towards a full court 1-2-2 (we used HC traps last season)
