1st Assistant Rodney Willis got an offer to be 2nd assistant coach at New Mexico State. I advised him to take it since it’s a step up because New Mexico State has higher prestige plus he can make a lot more money there than he can here.

I promoted 2nd Assistant Scott Roberts to 1st Assistant and 3rd Assistant Larry McIntyre to 2nd Assistant.

I then hired Greg Dye as 3rd Assistant who will be my scout. He’s 62 yr old. $15,000 salary with 5 yr contract. His Scouting rating is 52 and Reputation is 9.

Rashun Kamara…is still conducting a job search in the San Francisco Bay area where his family resides. I’ve set him up to help with some basketball camps at a couple different locations in California this summer, though.

Kevin Hill…has been accepted to the Claremont School of Theology with the intent to go into the Methodist ministry and possibly eventually become a professor of theology.

Andrew Powers...has a part-time job with the City of Bakersfield, but is considering taking some additional classes to get a teaching credential so he can teach high school history and coach at the high school level.

Justin Williams…has returned to Southern California where his excellent leadership capabilities resulted in his being hired into a management position with Disney.

Jeremy Jones…has parlayed his 4.0 GPA into acceptance to an MBA program at the University of Virginia.

Requested facilities upgrade—denied. Not surprising since we bombed in the Conference Tourney so didn’t get to any post-season tournaments.

With that, we transition from the 2013-2014 season to the 2014-2015 season.

After a short vacation to Ireland, the land of my ancestors and green, green landscapes, I’m back to Bakersfield, the land of my occupation and brown, brown fields.

I’m amazed that this will be my 4th year as a head coach. With the players I have returning plus the new players that will be coming into the program this year, I’m definitely excited. We have strength and talent at every position now so hopefully they can all mesh into a smooth-functioning T-E-A-M. So I DO have a challenge.

Scott Roberts moved from 2nd to 1st assistant at the end of last year, but will continue to be in charge of player development. His player development rating increased to 64 (+3) and his reputation increased to 10 (+1). He’s now 59 years old and has 4 years left on his contract.

Larry McIntyre was promoted from 3rd to 2nd assistant after last season. He did a great job recruiting last year and his recruiting rating increased to 47 (+2). His reputation remained rated as a 9. He’s 65 years old and has 3 years left on his contract.

The new guy will be 62-year-old Greg Dye who will be serving as 3rd assistant and handling our scouting duties. His scouting rating is 52 and his reputation is a solid 9. He signed a 5 year contract.

I’m now 31 years old. There were no changes to my contract, so I’m still earning $84,000/yr and have 4 years remaining. My ratings are now:
Offense—43 (+5), Defense—42 (+5), Recruiting—36 (no change), Scouting—28 (+1), Player Development—47 (+5), Reputation—13 (+1), Job Security—100 (no change)

My coaching record after 3 years as a head coach at CSU Bakersfield is 49-40 (.551) with 1 conference title, 1 NCAA appearance, 1 Conference Coach of the Year award, 2 All-conference players, and 4 All-American players.

CSU Bakersfield’s team prestige remained at 5, but the Great West Conference prestige dropped from 8 last year to 6 this year (probably the result of the top teams in the conference all bombing in the conference tournament, thus sending a sub .500 team to the NCAA Tournament). Our facilities remain rated as D+.

Jason Nurse decided he couldn’t put up with me for another year and has decided to transfer out of our program. While he was developing, he would never have started. Because of the strength we have at SG this year, his playing time would likely have been limited.

That means I will be looking at transfer players to see who we can get to fill his scholarship.

We checked out several players but none are really who we want, so I decided to pass on transfers, thus giving us another scholarship to offer during recruiting this year.

Jason Nurse was not picked up by any Division I school.

We got word that Jerell Brown was nominated for the 3rd straight year for the Norton Award.
