A 2 game homestand against the two teams I've never beaten in my time as head coach gives us an opportunity to really tank the season. First up is the much hated soup noodles. I hate Campbell. At least we don't have to travel to them this season. They are winless on the road this season and we need to keep it that way.

After an absoultely miserable shooting performance in the first 13 minutes of the game we warm up to just over 38% and somehow trail by just 2 at halftime. 32-30.

Not a great game for us by any stretch of the imagination. Our poor shooting continued in the 2nd half, but we did enough things right at both ends of the floor in the last 6 minutes of the game to finally catch them and then pull away.

Battle had 15 pts, 4 asts, 5 rebs but was just 2 of 10 from the field. He was perfect from the charity stripe down the stretch though to put it away.

Felts played much better in the 2nd half and added 15 pts, 2 asts, 4 rebs, and a steal. He was just 6 of 16 from the field but even that was an improvement over the 2nd half.

Jeffers was out of sync all game and wound up with 9 pts, 4 rebs and a stl on just 4 of 12 shooting. He played just 20 minutes because of foul trouble.

Moore had 6 pts, 8 rebs and a steal.

"Zilla was our only consistent offense in the game and had 19 pts, 4asts, 5 rebs as they had a hard time containing him in the post.

Brown had 8 points, 5 rebs as our big men played pretty well and saved us from ourselves.

White had 5 pts off the bench in the first half, and Madison had 3 asts. Sanders again didn't do much in his minutes. Geisen gave us 5 decent minutes down the stretch with Jeffers in foul trouble.

In any event, it was nice to get the monkey off my back and finally beat these clowns.

Final:

Jan 29: After last night's games Presbyterian and Liberty are tied for first. We are in sole possession of 5th place 2 games out.

As we feared, Carl Joseph did not meet the scores needed for admission to Gardner-Webb, and we continue to find people to fill the remaining 3 scholarships.

Our RPI has fallen to 54. We need to get our butts in gear if we are to see post-season play of any kind this year. Liberty has an RPI of 34 now, and VMI is at 49. Presbyterian is at 100 and High Point has fallen to 112.

We played the Lancers just once last year at their place and lost. They remain as the only team in the conference we've never gotten a win against. The crowds are starting to dwindle again. Just under 3700 expected for this one. We need to start playing better and give them a reason to fill the seats again. Like Campbell the Lancers are winless on the road this season.

One of our best halves of basketball in quite a while saw us shoot 56% from the field while holding them to 29%. We also held a 21-14 edge on the boards and got some very good play off the bench for a change. Now the big question: Can we put two solid halves together in the same game?

we lead at halftime 44-25.

Well, of course we didn't play as well in the 2nd half with our shooting dropping to 45% for the game, but our defense was good and they were never able to make a serious run at us. We turned them over 22 times on 10 steals, out-rebounded them 34-29,10-7, and we finally got some good play off the bench for the first time in a long time.

Battle had a good all-around game with 8 pts, 6 asts, 6 rebs.

Felts led us with 20 pts, 4 asts.

Ike didn't have one of his better games offensively but did a good job filling up the stat sheet with 11 pts, 4 asts, 5 rebs, 4 stls.

O'Conner was limited to 17 minutes with foul trouble but was effective when in the game with 7pts, 7 rebs.

Brown (6pts), Sanders(2pts, 4 rebs, 2 stls), Madison(6pts, 2 asts, 2 rebs), and Geiser(8pts,2rebs,3stls) all gave a good effort off the bench.

We win fairly easily

The next couple of games are pivotal. They can either help us recover this season, or completely break us. To beat the Blue Hose tonight we'll have to probably play our best road game of the season. It will be a packed house tonight.

6 turnovers before the first media time out finds us down 13-2, and the game AND season may be over already.

We have an absolutely horrible -11 deficit in turnovers in the first half 13-2. Only shooting 55% in the few possessions we weren't throwing the ball away kept us from being blown out in the first half. At half-time I ask the team for a show of hands for those who believe we could still win the game. Everyone raised their hands. I tell them they'd better damned well go do it then, because if I find out they are lying to me there will be hell to pay tomorrow.

We trail 31-37 at the half.

They lied to me. Sad thing is our defense was pretty good tonight. But 17 turnovers and just 10 points in the paint was pitiful. We are outscored on the break 18-5, on second chance scoring 13-1, and in the paint 28-10.

I don't even go to the locker room after the game. I have Kevin tell them to get their butts out of the shower and onto the bus. I speak not a word to them on the way home.

Battle had a decent game with 16 points,5 asts, 3 rebs, 2 stls. He wasn't the culprit.
Nor was Ike who had 20 pts, 5 rebs.
Felts had 18 pts, 2 asts, 5 rebs and a steal but turned the ball over 5 times.
Moore, O'Conner, and Brown did their jobs on the defensive boards, but had just 5 pts between them. Our inside game tonight was non-existent.

Other than Brown, the bench was a total bust tonight. Only Geisen who had 2 pts, 4 asts, and a steal in 11 minutes did anything positive whatsoever.

White, Madison, Crenshaw, Sanders, and Farrell played 20 minutes between them with no points, no assists, no rebounds, no steals, and 2 turnovers. Great production. We may be headed for a play-in game.

Feb 5: With Liberty losing last night, there is now a 4 way tie for 1st. We are in a 2 way tie for 5th and are not likely to go anywhere but down.
