I'll Be a Son of a Shark

Apr 28: We still need to fill out our staff, and don't have a huge amount of money left to do it. We luck out. After interviewing 20 or 25 guys we find an underappreciated guy from a BCS school that shall remain nameless (Kentu, cough cough cky)named Kiwane Spence who proves capable of dissecting a game film with an eagle eye. He takes a 3 year contract with us to be our lead scout for less money that I was paying journeymen at GW that couldn't tell the difference between a 2-3 zone and a bases loaded walk. What a steal this guy was!

Apr 30: I'm EXTREMELY happy with the staff I've built around me, starting with Jeremy. If he'd turned me down to come west with me I'd have been ready to commit hiri kiri right then and there. Although I'm paying these guys more than the typical mid-major staff might get elsewhere, I'm confident the investment will pay dividends.

May 1: The A.D. calls me in and tells me it's time to ask the board for what we need for the coming year. Seeing as how I've just been hired to a 4 year contract, and our facilites are already among the best in the nation, it's a pretty dumb question. I tell him to beg for more cash in our budget.

May 2: the request gets shot down, of course, but not without a lot more deliberation than the monkeys at GW EVER gave it. I think this university is in it to win it. I am finally starting to get over the bad taste of my last year at GW.

May 6: I move Ma up to live with me... for now..Ma is great... not only does she not want to cramp my style, she doesn't want me to cramp her style either. Actually probably even more the latter. The day she moves in she starts looking for an apartment and refuses my offer to help pay for it.

June 5: It's great to be back in the desert. Just love the warm smell of colitas rising up in the air. My staff and I have spent the last month examining what we have and what we need going forward, and we all seem to be on the same page.

Hey UNM! I've coached there in at least one association. They back the program and you'll have a chance to do well there. Congrats!
