New York, New York! Bringing a championship home

It's going to be tough no doubt, I would never have thought that the second seed only has a five game lead over the seventh so home court advantage is huge.

Onto Jack, it depends on how much the team wins factor in. He was first in SFs in efficiency but if the selectors don't worry about the disappointing Wolves it should be Tommasini, Dawkins and Mendez with Darrell Hampton a dark horse.

2028 NBA Playoffs

Eastern Conference
#1 Miami vs. #8 Philadelphia
#2 Washington vs. #7 Boston
#3 Toronto vs. #6 New York
#4 New Orleans vs. #5 Chicago

Western Conference
#1 Utah vs. #8 Oklahoma City
#2 Dallas vs. #7 Sacramento
#3 Nevada vs. #6 San Antonio
#4 Los Angeles vs. #5 Portland

We actually lost the season series against the Kings 1-2 and this is a real danger series for us. It would probably be a danger series against any of the top seven as we finished only five games ahead of Sacramento.

Western Conference First Round – Sacramento vs. Dallas

Point Guard
Jaymes Kincaid vs. Nashon Smith
17.3 points, 5.5 assists, 3.3 rebounds vs. 15.9 points, 6.1 assists, 4.0 rebounds

It was a down year for Smith with the Mavericks after being named to the All NBA second team and All Defence first team but his defence and leadership is still top notch. He should have the wood on Kincaid, who at only 22 years old is still pretty green. He loves to shoot and can do it well but Kincaid’s defence is below average and will get burnt.

Winner - Dallas

Shooting Guard
Joe Abney vs. Kelly Pryor
17.9 points, 3.4 assists, 4.1 rebounds vs. 10.1 points, 1.6 assists, 3.5 rebounds

If Joe Abney played Dallas every game he would average 30 points a game on 60% shooting but unfortunately he only plays them three times a year and shoots 39% for the rest of the season. He is still a dynamite scorer but his head goes wandering if the team gets down. Pryor is only in his second year but his defence is astonishing and loves to shut down opponents.

Winner - Draw

Small Forward
Corry Hackworth vs. Jack Dawkins
12.3 points, 2.5 assists, 7.9 rebounds vs. 26.2 points, 5.4 assists, 6.3 rebounds

This has been a breaking out party for Jack this season and would love to add some more hype to his name with a huge performance in the post season. He can score, rebound and pass with nearly any other SF in the league and is the true leader of the Mavericks. He won’t have it all his own way though as Hackworth is 6’10” and a great defender who could hamper Jack with his length and long arms. If Jack can get away then this series will be over extremely quickly.

Winner - Dallas

Power Forward
Hayletts Smith vs. Joe Duggins
9.3 points, 1.4 assists, 5.6 rebounds vs. 9.7 points, 1.0 assist, 7.9 rebounds

The worst match-up of the series, these two are the fifth starters for both sides. Duggins is just keeping the season warm for Julius Hobbs next season while Smith is the best of a very average bunch. Duggins is a better player so expect him to grabs plenty of rebounds.

Winner – Dallas (just)

Centre
Mike Lingle vs. Emmett Emerson
13.2 points, 1.0 assist, 5.3 rebounds vs. 16.6 points, 1.0 assist, 6.3 rebounds

It’s offence versus defence with no rebounding in between. Lingle is an above average defender and shot blocker (2.5 blocks per game in the regular season) while Emerson was top five in field goal percentage in the league. Too bad neither of them are any good at rebounding and probably won’t average double digit boards between them. This match-up goes to Dallas because even though he can’t rebound, Emerson is a dynamic scorer and should cause Lingle some headaches.

Winner - Dallas

Bench
Tate McKenzie, Ryan Robinson, Marcus Miller vs. Julius Hobbs, Casey Floyd, Isaac Holdan

Bigs versus smalls as McKenzie should be starting for a team somewhere in the league, no doubt. He has too much talent to be a bit part off the bench. Robinson isn’t too bad either but he is nursing a sore arm for the first two games. What hurts the Kings’ bench is their size, as they don’t have a legitimate big man to give Lingle and Smith a spell.

Winner – Draw

Prediction – Dallas in six. It’s closer than it seems at first glance as the Kings can score in bunches and the Mavericks have been known to falter in fourth quarters.

The Dallas crowd are in a frenzy, cheering for their team after three long years of stares and whispers about the behind the scenes dealings. This team is all above board and are champing at the bit to show their skills. Nashon Smith did his part with 26 points and 10 assists but did turn the ball over seven times. Kelly Pryor added 18 points and 7 rebounds but our two main scorers, Jack and Emmett, combined for 13/34 for 34 points. We shot out to a 12 point lead at half time but were tied back in the second session and gave up home court advantage 110-107. Joe Abney scored 28 points but on terrible shooting (as usual) but it was young’un Jaymes Kincaid who had no stage fright putting up 24 points, 9 assists and 5 rebounds to be the hero of the game.

Sacramento leads 1-0

We all knew that a loss here against a 50 win team would put us in dire straits so a 25-13 first quarter and 78-45 half time lead it was all party time as we cruise to a series tying 130-95 win. Jack bounced back with 31 points, 10 rebounds and 6 assists as Emmett Emerson also had a better game with 19 points and 6 rebounds. Casey Floyd led the second unit with 16 points and 8 rebounds as both Emmett and Joe Duggins were in foul trouble. Like last game, Joe Abney shot terribly (11/27) for 28 points but Jaymes Kincaid wasn’t there to bail him out with only 12 points and 12 assists. Joe Abney will get his point no matter how detrimental he is to the team.

Series tied 1-1

The Sacramento crowd are going nuts; they want to upset the number two seed after taking game one. Joe Abney answered the call (in his own way) with 23 points on sort of good shooting, hitting seven of seventeen shots while Marcus Miller added 15 points in 19 minutes off the bench. They also had a 14 point lead going into the third quarter as Nashon Smith was held to only 9 points on the night. Jack had his usual game with 28 points, 9 rebounds and 6 turnovers but it was one of our youngest and one of our oldest who stepped up as Kelly poured in 24 points and Casey Floyd added 18 points and 8 rebounds as we torched the Kings 37-25 in the final term to take back HCA 110-100.

Dallas leads 2-1

We needed to go for the kill in game four, to really turn the screws on the Kings. It happened as quick as lightning, as we pounced on a sluggish Sac-Town squad to take a 13 point half time lead. The team didn’t let up, winning both of the second half quarters to take a substantial 3-1 lead with a 133-115 basting. Jack was amazing, going 11/21 from the field and 13/15 from the line for 39 points while Emmett heled him out with a 12/17 FG, 7/8 FT night for 31 points. The Mavericks shot 58% from the field (on the back of Jack and Emmett) compared to 48% from the Kings. They were led by Mike Lingle and his 23 points but Joe Abney was again poor, with 19 points on 8/22 shooting.

Dallas leads 3-1

It might have been closer than game four but game five was in the favour of the good guys as we clinch the series 4-1 with a 112-100 win. Jack had a rough night, going 5/20 for 17 points and 10 rebounds and two of our unsung heroes led the way. Joe Duggins was fantastic with 11 points, 14 rebounds, 2 steals and 2 blocks while Nashon Smith added 23 points, 8 assists and 7 rebounds in the win. Joe Abney had an almost identical game with 22 points on 8/22 shooting, marring a near triple double from Jaymes Kincaid who had 18 points, 10 assists and 8 rebounds.

Dallas wins 4-1

There were no sweeps but half of the series finished in five games, as #3 Toronto took out #6 New York, #3 Nevada eliminated #6 San Antonio and #5 Portland caused a minor upset with a 4-1 series win over #4 Los Angeles.

The other four series went the distance, but don’t get excited as all four of the higher seeds won, as #1 Miami, #1 Utah, #2 Washington and #4 New Orleans beat #8 Philadelphia, #8 Oklahoma City, #7 Boston and #5 Chicago respectively.

2028 NBA Playoffs

Eastern Conference
#1 Miami vs. #4 New Orleans
#2 Washington vs. #3 Toronto

Western Conference
#1 Utah vs. #5 Portland
#2 Dallas vs. #3 Nevada

We again lost the season series 1-2 and those two losses were blowouts, this is going to be tough.

Western Conference Semi-Finals – Nevada vs. Dallas

Point Guard
Darren Banks vs. Nashon Smith
13.6 points, 8.8 assists, 5.0 rebounds vs. 16.0 points, 8.2 assists, 3.2 rebounds

Two of the smaller elite point guards in the league, they are both way under 180lbs. That hasn’t stopped them from excelling and should be a fantastic match-up. Smith will look for his shot more so if Banks can stop him this could be a win for the Neon.

Winner - Draw

Shooting Guard
Matt Brown vs. Kelly Pryor
15.0 points, 9.0 assists, 4.2 rebounds vs. 17.8 points, 1.2 assists, 4.8 rebounds

On talent alone Matt Brown wins this but Pryor is a massive six inches taller and over 40lbs heavier which steers it back to even. Pryor was excellent in the first round and will continue to play well. A problem for the Mavericks is the Neon’s passing ability, as both Brown and Banks turned the Spurs around with their deft assists.

Winner - Draw

Small Forward
Ryan Garris vs. Jack Dawkins
12.8 points, 2.4 assists, 6.8 rebounds vs. 27.0 points, 5.2 assists, 8.4 rebounds

The biggest match-up of the series. If Garris never scores over double digits and holds Jack to below his average then it’s a win for the Neon. They need to slow him down if they want to win this series and if Jack goes off then it should be lights out for Nevada.

Winner - Dallas

Power Forward
John Nemitz vs. Joe Duggins
17.8 points, 1.6 assists, 11.0 rebounds vs. 7.8 points, 1.8 assists, 8.6 rebounds

The best player on the Neon should take apart Duggins, who is slowly being usurped from the PF spot by Julius Hobbs. Don’t be surprised if Duggins gets in foul trouble early and Hobbs plays the majority of the minutes here. Former #1 pick Nemitz was outstanding against San Antonio and should do the same here.

Winner - Nevada

Centre
Andre Drummond vs. Emmett Emerson
12.6 points, 1.2 assists, 9.0 rebounds vs. 19.8 points, 1.2 assists, 6.4 rebounds

Even though Drummond is 34 years old and on the downward end of his career, he is still an above average defender and should give Emerson trouble all series long. Another must win match-up for the Mavericks as Emerson is their second best scorer.

Winner - Draw

Bench
Greg Lavin, Ian Ransom, Michael Howland vs. Julius Hobbs, Casey Floyd, Isaac Holdan

Lavin has been great off the bench, giving the Neon some much needed size (6’6”) at both guard positions but Ransom and Howland are pretty average. As said before, Hobbs is coming along very nicely while Floyd and Holdan have been huge surprises for the Mavericks.

Winner - Dallas

Prediction – Dallas in seven. You might have been wondering where 2025 All NBA Third Teamer Mike Joseph was in all of this, but the bad news for Neon fans is that he tore his ankle a while ago and will be out for a long, looooooooong time which is great news for the Mavericks.

Going up against another 50 win team is strange enough but when it against a team that stacks up against us really well I’m a little worried. I’m not worried about our fans though, as they always come to our games in droves and will never let us down. It is again a sell out as we averaged just 200 less people than a sell out for the regular season so if this game wasn’t a sell out I would be worried. Jack shot terribly, going 10/28 from the field for 33 points and 9 assists as Joe and Emmett doubled up. The problem was that we just couldn’t get any momentum, getting down by as much as 15 points in the third term as Matt Brown had no mercy for his old team with 22 points, 10 rebounds and 8 assists for Nevada. We never say die though, as the team raced back with a 27-18 last quarter before a Jack Dawkins missed contested mid range jump shot at the buzzer doomed us to a solitary point loss, 110-109. Darren Banks had 21 points, 8 assists and 7 rebounds but it was Ryan Garris who stole the show, with only 22 points but held Jack to a very inefficient game.

Nevada leads 1-0

This team was out for blood, we don’t want to get down 2-0 to an elite team. The first quarter was close with Nevada holding a slim three point lead but in the second we ramped up the pressure to hold a five point margin at the main break. I wasn’t in the locker room for half time but someone must have said something because we came out like a house on fire, blasting the Neon with a 39-21 third term to bust the game open and cruise to a series tying 106-89 win. Jack was pissed with his game one performance and had 37 points on 12/25 shooting tonight while Joe Duggins only scored 7 points he did rip down 17 rebounds. Kelly Pryor was very quiet last time but was not going to be silenced now, scoring 19 points in the win. Matt Brown and Darren Banks were again the stars for the Neon, combining for 38 points, 14 assists and 6 rebounds in the loss.

Series tied 1-1

The last two seasons the Neon have made the second round and they would love to break their wall and make it to a conference final this year. Jack didn’t want anything to do with that, scoring 34 points and handing out 9 assists but the rest of his team weren’t there, shooting 33% from the field as we went down in the series again 104-90. Casey Floyd (0/10 FG) and Kelly Pryor (1/10 FG) were the worst of the bunch. Ryan Garris seems to be able to stick with Jack for a little while, putting up 22 points and 11 rebounds but the Neon hit 11 three pointers and shot 51% from the field as we just weren’t in this game.

Nevada leads 2-1

We really need to win this game; we need to get our home court advantage back. However, Ryan Garris had other ideas. Not only did he hold Jack to 5/19 shooting for only 16 points he poured in 38 points and 9 rebounds himself as the Neon push us to the brink with another flogging, 107-83. Darren Banks had 19 points, 14 assists and 6 rebounds while limiting Nashon Smith to one of the worst shooting nights I have ever seen in my career, going 1/17 for 5 points and 11 assists. It’s do or die now.

Nevada leads 3-1

Both Eastern Conference series’ have finished in sweeps, as #1 Miami took care of #4 New Orleans while #2 Washington swept aside #3 Toronto in four games.

This is it; win and stay alive or lose and go home. Luckily it’s on our home court but there is a lot of nervous energy around the arena. In fact it was a very nervous game all around, as both teams shot less than 44% from the field. Ryan Garris came down from his super high with only 11 points while John Nemitz shot 0/12 from the field for 6 points and 13 rebounds. On our side, Jack went 9/28 from the field for a very inefficient 34 points and 9 rebounds while Joe Duggins went ¼. As you can see, many missed shots. All except for our guards, as Kelly and Nashon combined for 39 points, 13 assists and 8 rebounds as we stay alive with a 107-98 win to extend the series.

Nevada leads 3-2

Game six, just like game five – we need to win. It’s been done before and I have a good feeling about this. Emmett has a good feeling as well, putting up 25 points and 11 rebounds for the game as we get out to a 28-22 first quarter lead to hush the crowd. Jack and Ryan Garris cancel each other out, combining to shoot 15/46 as neither really stamped their authority on the game. The person that did stamp everything was Greg Lavin, who had just been moved into the starting line-up instead of Matt Brown and hit seven three pointers on his way to 27 points to knock us out of the post season 110-86. After the first quarter it wasn’t even close as the Neon outscored us 88-58 in a bruising display as the benches were emptied very early. Damn.

Nevada wins 4-2

The Portland/Utah series went the distance but the top seed pulled through, as Utah extinguished the Portland fire with a 114-98 win with Bret Davis leading the way with 31 points, 15 assists and 8 rebounds.

2028 NBA Playoffs

Eastern Conference
#1 Miami defeat #2 Washington 4-3

Western Conference
#3 Nevada defeat #1 Utah 4-3

Both conference finals go the distance as fan buzz hasn’t been this high for a very long time. Miami make their first NBA Finals series in 16 years but the whole reason why people are talking about this post season are the Nevada Neon. They have only been in the NBA eight years and were written off as being just another expansion team, not ready to compete. Add to that a coach who’s career has been classed as ‘over the hill’ at least five years ago in Jim O’Brien this is one squad with the whole of the world behind them (except for Miami).

2028 NBA Finals

#3 Nevada vs. #1 Miami

Point Guard
Darren Banks vs. Kenneth Long
18.7 points, 9.0 assists, 5.3 rebounds vs. 23.2 points, 6.6 assists, 4.9 rebounds

Not a natural PG, that hasn’t stopped Long from leading his team in his third year. The first player from the fabled Rookie Six squad to make the NBA Finals, he will need to bring his all to overcome this gargantuan occasion. Banks has been known to take over games, racking up massive numbers in a blink of an eye.

Winner - Draw

Shooting Guard
Matt Brown vs. Michael Graham
14.2 points, 8.2 assists, 5.6 rebounds vs. 10.4 points, 7.7 assists, 4.3 rebounds

Another player not playing his natural position, SF Graham is the team’s distributor. He works well with Long and with a 6’9” body Graham can look over the top of defenders for the precise pass. Even though Brown is giving up seven inches and 60lbs to Graham don’t count out the Playoff Warrior who will go against anyone and never back down.

Winner - Draw

Small Forward
Ryan Garris vs. Keith Selden
17.6 points, 1.9 assists, 6.4 rebounds vs. 17.6 points, 2.3 assists, 5.4 rebounds

Even though Selden scores well he isn’t that good at other things, while Garris is a lockdown defender and underrated scorer. After dismantling Jack Dawkins in Dallas and running riot in Utah look for Garris to be the X Factor for the Neon.

Winner - Nevada

Power Forward
John Nemitz vs. Art Haynes
10.8 points, 1.6 assists, 9.6 rebounds vs. 12.2 points, 1.1 assists, 6.0 rebounds

Nemitz averaged 8.3 points a game against Utah which is just terrible for the key player on the Neon. He will need to step up for Nevada to have a chance of winning their first ever title and will have a hard time against Haynes. Art Haynes is criminally underrated, only being seen by some as a bit player but he can change games when he is on.

Winner - Nevada

Centre
Andre Drummond vs. Eryk Charnowski
11.1 points, 0.9 assists, 7.7 rebounds vs. 12.3 points, 1.2 assists, 6.9 rebounds

Five years ago this match-up would have been drool worthy but now that Drummond is merely good instead of great Miami will be looking to take full advantage. Eryk’s numbers have been way down from his usual great best but that has more to do with Kenneth Long’s growth.

Winner - Miami

Bench
Greg Lavin, Ian Ransom, Jing-xiang Mei vs. Tim Greenberg, Lance Ellis, Demond Lewis

This is where Miami’s talent comes in. Greenberg is averaging 16 points a game in the post season off the bench while Ellis and Lewis are starters on most other teams. Throw in scoring dynamo Ross Lampley and the Neon will be hoping that their starters don’t get into foul trouble.

Winner – Miami

Prediction – Too close to call. This is the first time we haven’t been able to make a decision as these two teams are just too close to call a winner. Look for the series to go to seven games.

Game One
Nevada 81 – Miami 102 (MIA 1-0)
Player of the Game – Kenneth Long, Miami – 31 points

Game Two
Nevada 95 – Miami 103 (MIA 2-0)
Player of the Game – Kenneth Long, Miami – 22 points

Game Three
Miami 92 – Nevada 103 (MIA 2-1)
Player of the Game – Matt Brown, Nevada – 20 points, 8 assists, 7 rebounds

Game Four
Miami 100 – Nevada 91 (MIA 3-1)
Player of the Game – Kenneth Long, Miami – 19 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists, 4 steals

Game Five
Miami 83 – Nevada 98 (MIA 3-2)
Player of the Game – John Nemitz, Nevada – 24 points, 6 rebounds, 5 blocks

Game Six
Nevada 97 – Miami 109 (MIA 4-2)
Player of the Game – Kenneth Long, Miami – 34 points

It wasn’t as close as experts had said but it sure was a fantastic series. Kenneth Long was named Finals MVP after averaging 25.3 points, 4.2 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game. Unfortunate for the Neon as they were so excited but I wouldn’t be surprised if the were back here next season.

We don’t have any picks in the upcoming draft but I’m really interested about Minnesota, who won the title last year and now have the seven best odds for the best draft pick.

16 – Detroit (0)
15 – Orlando (0)
14 – Atlanta (0)
13 – Boston (0)
12 – Seattle (0)
11 – Boston (0)
10 – Golden State (0)
9 – Memphis (0)
8 – Minnesota (-1)

The Bucks and their 3.3% chance have jumped.

7 – Phoenix (-1)
6 – Brooklyn (-2)

Indiana has also jumped.

5 – Houston (-2)
4 – Cleveland (-2)
3 – Indiana (+2)
2 – Milwaukee (+6)
1 – Denver (0)

The Nuggets hold strong for the number one pick as Milwaukee are in a good spot but would have liked this kind of luck in a stronger crop.

As the Rookie Six are in their third year it’s not out of the question to see some of them making an All NBA team this season.

Most Valuable Player:
Mike Bickerstaf, Oklahoma City Thunder – 26.6 points, 5.6 assists, 5.0 rebounds, 1.2 steals, 0.0 blocks

That draft is turning out amazing as the number one pick gets his first MVP award.

Defensive Player of the Year:
Cedric Watson, San Antonio Spurs – 13.8 points, 2.4 assists, 5.5 rebounds, 2.8 steals, 1.0 block

Another big SF wins the award as Anthony Davis’ reign is over.

Sixth Man of the Year:
Earl Oliver, San Diego Riders – 17.4 points, 3.6 assists, 4.2 rebounds, 0.4 steals, 0.5 blocks

This is a bit of a technicality as Oliver started all of the games after he got traded to San Diego but must have come off the bench enough with Portland.

Rookie of the Year:
Michael McQuay, Atlanta Hawks – 17.7 points, 1.4 assists, 8.2 rebounds, 1.2 steals, 0.6 blocks

No doubt.

Coach of the Year:
Nate McMillan, Utah Jazz – 57-25 (.695)

Even though they didn’t make the NBA Finals they did have the best record in the more competitive West.

All NBA First Team:
Reggie Dobbins, Orlando Magic
Mike Bickerstaf, Oklahoma City Thunder
Enrique Mendez, Minnesota Timberwolves
Terry McKenzie, New York Knicks
Jimmy Forrest, Portland Trailblazers

All NBA Second Team:
Michael Taylor, Los Angeles Lakers
Kenneth Long, Miami Heat
Jack Dawkins, Dallas Mavericks

Anthony Davis, Charlotte Bobcats
Eryk Charnowski, Miami Heat

All NBA Third Team:
Matias Perez, Toronto Raptors
Adarrial Faye, Milwaukee Bucks
Darrell Hampton, Indiana Pacers
Brad Largent, Chicago Bulls
Jeff Cunningham, Los Angeles Lakers

All Defence First Team:
Nashon Smith, Dallas Mavericks

Hillar Petrauskas, New Orleans Hornets
Cedric Watson, San Antonio Spurs
Anthony Davis, Charlotte Bobcats
Mark Lewis, Utah Jazz

All Defence Second Team:
Jay Warren, Houston Rockets
Vlado Prazina, New York Knicks
Jamaal Lewis, Chicago Bulls
Carl Farmer, Seattle Supersonics
Ryan Wadley, Chicago Bulls

All Rookie First Team:
Jason Collins, Oklahoma City Thunder
Tip Smith, Indiana Pacers
Steven McAfee, Houston Rockets
Michael McQuay, Atlanta Hawks
Colt Hassell, Denver Nuggets

All Rookie Second Team:
Lamar Iversen, Memphis Grizzlies
Tobe Slaughter, Portland Trailblazers
Hayletts Wilcox, Oklahoma City Thunder
Andy Kante, Houston Rockets
Lavar Smith, Milwaukee Bucks

I get the call I’ve been dreading from Mr Stuart about the team and it wasn’t a good one. He tore strips off me, saying that even though we made the second round our salary was just too high again. I was so close to telling him to shove this job somewhere unpleasant but I’ve really put down roots in Dallas and I don’t want to move, so I gritted my teeth, said all the appropriate answers and got away with my job still attached.

Two days later I got an email from Mr Stuart’s office that he had sold the team to Mr Chris Perry, a multimedia entrepreneur that created the new holographic video format from a few years back and is rolling in money. The good news is that he is a basketball nut and it has been one of his biggest dreams to own the Dallas Mavericks. Mr Perry wants nothing more than to win a championship and is willing to spend nearly anything to get it. He is not quite as lenient as still incarcerated Mr English as he wants to see results in the next few years but I’ve extremely excited to see the back end of Mr Stuart. I tell Mr Perry that we should take the division this season and he won’t have to pay the luxury tax with another $19 million of past salary coming off the books. Jack still has one more season of his rookie contract so when the last $20 million goes after next season he will get his max.

The mock draft was released a week before the actual draft and it looks terrible. PF Jesse Rucker and C Jason Harriman are the two best prospects at the moment and they both have massive question marks around them so don’t expect anyone game changing here.

1 – Denver – PF Jesse Rucker
2 – Milwaukee – PG Jehiel DeSantis
3 – Indiana – SG Steve Mapp
4 – Cleveland – PF Traves Parker
5 – Houston – SG Ray Haymon
6 – Brooklyn – C Jason Harriman
7 – Phoenix – PF Courtney Willis
8 – Minnesota – C Mark Frazier
9 – Memphis – SG Devan Gross
10 – Golden State – SG Robert Martin
11 – Boston – PF Chris Barnes
12 – Seattle – PG Andrew Brown
13 – Boston – PG Jesse Smith
14 – Atlanta – PG Justin Smith
15 – Orlando – SG Jarron Campbell
16 – Detroit – PG Russell Haymon

There are two sets of twins in this draft with Ray and Russell Haymon and Jesse and Justin Smith taking up four of the lottery picks here.

End of Season report on the Rookie Six – Year Three

#41 SF Jack Dawkins, Dallas Mavericks – 26.2 points, 5.4 assists, 6.3 rebounds, 0.8 steals, 0.4 blocks

Played his first full season and hopefully his injury concerns are behind him, Jack was spectacular. He was third in the league in efficiency and was named to the All NBA second team for his efforts. Now the team’s primary leader, there has been rumours that Jack will be named captain next season.

2x All Star Game Reserve (2026, 2027)
1x All NBA Second Team (2027)

#35 PF Terry McKenzie, New York Knicks – 20.2 points, 1.3 assists, 9.4 rebounds, 1.0 steal, 1.1 blocks

No-one could have imagined that McKenzie would be this good so fast. He was always the most NBA ready and would be a top tier rebounder but his scoring and court intelligence are way beyond anyone’s scouting. He was named to the All NBA First Team in his third season and even though he is already 25 years old he still has some molding and evolving of his game left to do.

2x Rookie/Sophomore Game Starter (2025, 2026)
1x All Rookie 1st Team (2025)
1x All NBA First Team (2027)

#17 PG Cort Majishun, Memphis Grizzlies – 19.5 points, 9.6 assists, 3.4 rebounds, 1.3 steals, 0.3 blocks

With the likes of Ledaryl McMillian, Reggie Dobbins and Michael Taylor, Cort Majishun is a little left out when talking about the best point guards in the league. His numbers don’t say that and come next season the whole world will know about him. The player with the most potential left to grow in him in the Rookie Six, don’t be surprised if Cort is an All NBA player next season.

2x Rookie/Sophomore Game Starter (2025, 2026)
1x All Rookie 1st Team (2025)

#13 SG Kenneth Long, Miami Heat – 19.4 points, 6.3 assists, 4.9 rebounds, 1.4 steals, 1.0 block

The first of the Rookie Six to win a title, he also won the Finals MVP in his now comfortable PG position. The long running feud between Long and his coaching staff seems to be over as well, which is what a championship will do to people. A massive year for the 23 year old, notching his first All Star appearance, All Star MVP, All NBA award and Finals MVP this season.

1x Rookie/Sophomore Game Starter (2026)
1x All Star Game Reserve (2027)
1x All Star Game MVP (2027)
1x All League 2nd Team (2027)
1x NBA Championship (2027)
1x Finals MVP (2027)

#4 SG Chris Jones, Atlanta Hawks – 15.0 points, 7.6 assists, 4.8 rebounds, 1.4 steals, 0.0 blocks

The Wizard has been a little disappointing in his three years in the league. Some experts thought that he would have a career like Kenneth Long’s, a scoring guard that has the ability to be a point guard. His stats aren’t terrible, in fact they are quite good but compare them to the other members of the Rookie Six and he is lacking. He still has quite a bit of growing to do so hopefully he can pull it together in four year because that is when he comes out of contract (like the rest).

2x Rookie/Sophomore Game Reserve (2025, 2026)
1x All Rookie 2nd Team (2025)

#43 C Art Stevenson, San Diego Riders – 12.9 points, 0.8 assists, 5.8 rebounds, 0.5 steals, 1.1 blocks

The Artisan as he is now known in San Diego has roared into the starting line-up and into the hearts of Riders fans. After averaging only 9.6 minutes a game with Boston, Art’s numbers were bumped up to 29.3 minutes in San Diego after Jimmy Forrest was punted to Portland. He shoots a remarkable 61% from the field (only 52% from the line though) and with a complete training camp under his belt with his new team look for Art to improve on his game next season.
