Game #9

Postby PointGuard » Mon Oct 21, 2013 1:37 am

Game #9: Dec. 14, 2017; Indiana State Sycamores (2-4) at New Hampshire Wildcats

5 of the Sycamores 6 opponents thus are have been tough teams including 2 top 25 teams, so their record is not necessarily indicative of how good they are.

We played exceptionally well at the start of the game and took a 28-12 lead after 9-1/2 minutes of play. We eventually increased our lead to 21 points before giving back some of that lead at the end of the half. We took a 49-32 lead to the intermission. Both teams shot well. Indiana State hit 55% of their shots and we hit 61% of ours. We forced them to make 15 turnovers while making just 5 ourselves. Three of our players scored in double figures in the first half: Nate Augustus was on fire and scored 13 and Adrian Beck and William Kamara both had 10 points.

Unlike in the 1st half, the Sycamores controlled the first 7 minutes of the 2nd half and cut our lead to 7 points. With 8 minutes left, our lead had shrunk to 5. We opened an 11 point lead then Indiana State hit some last minute shots to make it close at the end.

Final Score: New Hamshire-75, Indiana State-70. New Hampshire season record: 3-6.

Scoring leaders: Augustus-20, Kamara-20, Beck-14, Hall-8.

Rebound leaders: Kamara-6.

Assist leaders: Augustus-7, Kamara-5.

Player of the Game: SG William Kamara-20 pts, 6 reb, 5 assists, 1 steal.

Coach’s Pat on the Back Award: PG Nate Augustus-20 pts, 1 rebound, 7 assists, 2 steals.

Other notes: Both teams continued to shoot well throughout the game (we hit 52% and Indiana State hit 53%). The Sycamores controlled the boards 29-20 but we held a 26-15 turnover advantage.

Game #10

Postby PointGuard » Mon Oct 21, 2013 1:50 am

Game #10: Dec. 17, 2017; New Hampshire Wildcats (3-6) at Coppin State Eagles (5-3)

We shot horribly in the early part of the first half and fell behind by 16. In the latter portion of the half we cut their lead to 5, although the Eagles hit a 3 at the buzzer to make it 36-27. Again we ran into foul trouble, sitting 4 players for a major part of the half. Chris Faust’s 8 points led our scoring. During the intermission I told the players to keep playing like they did late in the half and keep chipping away at their lead.

The team exactly as I’d asked them during the half and just gradually whittled away at Coppin State’s lead until tying them midway through the 2nd half. As the fouls continued to be called only against us I kept railing on the refs and was ejected with 8 minutes to play and us down by 2. We went ahead 56-54 with 6 minutes to play only to have the refs keep the Eagles in it by more foul calls. The Eagles then executed extremely well in the final 4 minutes and put the game away.

Final Score: Coppin State-73, New Hampshire-63. New Hampshire season record: 3-7.

Scoring leaders: L. Smith-13, Faust-12, Kamara-9, Jeppson-8.

Rebound leaders: Beck-6, L. Smith-5.

Assist leaders: Jeppson-7, Kamara-6.

Player of the Game: Coppin State’s PF Cordell Watson-12 pts, 6 reb, 1 steal.

Coach’s Pat on the Back Award: PG Edvin Jeppson-8 pts, 2 reb, 7 assists.

Other notes: We lost by 10, but Coppin State got 25 more free throws than we did and scored 12 more points at the line. The Eagles controlled the boards 37-26, but we had a 14-10 rebounding advantage. PG Nate Augustus twisted his ankle early in the game so didn’t play much, but is expected to be at full strength for our next game.

Nate Augustus won the America East Freshman Player of the Week award.

Game #11

Postby PointGuard » Mon Oct 21, 2013 1:58 am

Game #11: Dec. 21, 2017; Boise State Broncos (8-3) at New Hampshire Wildcats (3-7)

Boise State has a very good record but has only played one strong opponent. Jahiel Simmons is their leading scorer with 13.5 ppg, but is hitting 59% of his FG attempts and 69% of his threes.

The entire first half was offense, offense, offense by both teams. We hit 62% of our shots and Boise State hit 60%. At the break we trailed 53-52. Chris Faust had 12 and Luis Smith chipped in 11 to lead our scoring.
Both team’s shooting cooled in the 2nd half. The lead went back and forth during the early in the half but late in the half we pulled away and then held the Broncos off to pick up a win in our final pre-conference game.

Final Score: New Hampshire-91, Boise State-81. New Hampshire season record: 4-7.

Scoring leaders: Faust-17, Augustus-15, Kamara-14, L. Smith-13, Hall-12.

Rebound leaders: L. Smith-7, Beck-5.

Assist leaders: Augustus-6, Jeppson-6, Kamara-4.

Player of the Game: SG Chris Faust-17 pts, 3 reb, 1 assist, 1 steal.

Coach’s Pat on the Back Award: PG Nate Augustus-15 pts, 3 reb, 6 assists.

Other notes: We hit 52% of our FG attempts (and 56% of our 3’s). Boise State hit 49% of their shots (and 41% of their 3’s). We out-rebounded the Broncos 34-26 plus held a 13-11 advantage in turnovers. Boise State got 24 free throw attempts converting 18 whereas we hit 8 of our 9 attempts from the charity line. Nate Augustus’ ankle bothered him a little in the first half but he played an outstanding game anyway.

Nate Augustus won the America East Freshman Player of the Week Award.
