New York, New York! Bringing a championship home

January Player of the Month – Ledaryl McMillian, Golden State Warriors – 37.4 points, 6.6 rebounds, 6.9 assists, 1.1 steals and 1.1 blocks per game.

January Rookie of the Month – Matt Reid, Orlando Magic – 15.6 points, 6.5 rebounds, 1.7 assists, 0.9 steals and 1.7 blocks per game.

Our first Hell Week for the season with quite a few away from Texas which will test us. First up is a trip to the nation’s capital and we got out to a 14 point lead near the end of the third term behind Captain Jack’s stellar 37 points, 10 rebounds and 9 assists but right at the end of the quarter Nashon Smith severely sprained his ankle and did not return. That opened the gates for the Wizards as they rattled off a 40-27 last term to steal the win from our hands 132-129. Rowan Taylor was outstanding with 27 points while DeShaun Worley took full advantage of Nashon’s absence with 26 points and 10 assists.

Dallas Mavericks 29-8

We don’t let a losing streak happen as we take care of the Neon comfortably in the desert 120-104 as they still have Andre Drummond starting at C at 36 years old. T-Mac was the one to do the damage with 20 points and 15 rebounds while Earl added 28 points on great shooting. Isaac Holdan started at PG for the injured Nashon but had a stinker, going 0/4 for 2 points and 6 assists. Luckily we had Ryan Robinson helping out with 12 points off the bench. Mike Joseph led the way for Nevada with 21 points and 7 assists.

Dallas Mavericks 30-8

It’s a home game against Brooklyn and we stymie them with our defence as Dave Coulter turned the ball over eleven times as we rout the Nets 128-95. Jeff Cunningham put his hand up for the first time in a while with 19 points and 10 rebounds as Nashon played 25 minutes to ease him back into the squad but still added 14 points (7/8 FG) and 8 assists for his trouble. Lars Ray was the best for Brooklyn with 21 points but they were well and truly outclassed.

Dallas Mavericks 31-8

Camah Williams had 35 points while Adarrial Faye added 22 points but that’s all the Wolves had as we eke out a 128-122 win at home. Earl top scored with 25 points but it was Jack (18 points, 10 assists, 9 rebounds) and Mike Lingle (18 points, 7 rebounds filling in for T-Mac) who got us over the line against a very good Minnesota team. I wouldn’t be surprised that if we made it to the WCF we would face the Wolves.

Dallas Mavericks 32-8

Wow, I did not expect this showing by the Nets. Lars Ray had 36 points, Chris Canal added 26 while the team shot 56% FG, 63% 3P and 93% from the line as they blast us completely, winning 128-98 as we leave Brooklyn with our tails between our legs. To make matters worse we shot 38% from the field but I’m putting this down to fatigue as we are still in the midst of an extended Hell Week.

Dallas Mavericks 32-9

Who would have thought that the Nuggets were 35-13 at the moment? I guess they have some elite talent like Jehiel DeSantis, Jason London, hell their whole starting five is filled with great guys. That talent didn’t stop us from racking up 51 points in the first quarter to cruise to a 126-106 victory. Earl Oliver had 32 points and battled Jason London all night long, but London got the best of him with 41 points of his own. We might have won here tonight but Denver are a real threat to us.

Dallas Mavericks 33-9

Jamil Fleming had 21 points, 10 assists and 9 rebounds while Jared Arenas added 25 points and 10 rebounds but we got the statistic where it counts – a 114-109 win against Philadelphia. Earl Oliver is currently on a tear and added 24 points tonight, ably assisted by Jeff’s 18 points and 9 rebounds. Nashon didn’t play tonight as his ankle is still bothering him and we don’t want to risk him before the playoffs. He should be 100% in about a week.

Dallas Mavericks 34-9

A 44-30 second quarter made our home game against Seattle extremely comfortable as we took out the Sonics 145-104. Jack was electric with 30 points in 33 minutes while Isaac Holdan added 20 points in 18 minutes off the bench. It was a great game for the team as the starters could have the night off and our bench guys were given an extended run. Marlo Graham had 23 points on 27 shots in the loss.

Dallas Mavericks 35-9

Jack was again the star with 26 points and 7 rebounds (and eight turnovers) as we again take care of business, beating Cleveland 119-103. Mike Lingle was another standout with 12 points and 10 rebounds as T-Mac was in foul trouble. Rookie Ryan Obrien had 21 points to lead the Cavs but their star centre, Art Stevenson, failed with only 12 points and 11 rebounds.

Dallas Mavericks 36-9

T-Mac took Carl Farmer to school with 23 points and 12 rebounds (to Farmer’s 7 points and 5 fouls) as we destroy the Denver threat 128-101 to send a message to the league. Isaac Holdan is loving the extended minutes and tonight had 13 points. Jason London led the way for the Nuggets with 26 points but when their starting PF and C were in foul trouble all night it’s going to be an easy ride.

Dallas Mavericks 37-9

Our last game before the All Star break was a really, really easy win over Minnesota, in Minnesota. We won every quarter by at least nine points to take the game 137-114. Nashon Smith seems to be back to 100% with 20 points, 10 assists, 5 rebounds and 4 steals as we shot 60% from the field. Enrique Mendez had 31 points but was let down by his running mate as Camah Williams only had 9 points in the loss.

Dallas Mavericks 38-9

It’s All Star weekend time and we kick things off with Terrance Kickert from Brooklyn winning the Slam Dunk Contest, beating out Memphis’ Nathaniel Harris pretty easily. The big news is that we had three contestants for the Long Distance Shootout as Nashon Smith, Ryan Robinson and Earl Oliver were all invited in on the fun. Too bad none of them made it to the final as Portland’s Tiburcio Tommasini led from start to finish to beat Minnesota’s Enrique Mendez and his teammate Tobe Slaughter.

The Rookie/Sophomore game was defence optional affir as the second year guys rattled off a 158-140 win as Jehiel DeSantis, Jarron Campbell and Andrew Brown combined for 87 points, 23 assists and 11 rebounds with Campbell winning the MVP award, but it was a toss up between the three. Chris Horvath should be disappointed with his team’s performance as he recorded an 18 point, 13 assist and 13 rebounds triple double, his first of his career in a losing effort. Ryan Obrien had 38 points to lead the game but favourite for Rookie of the Year Matt Reid didn’t play some reason.

The All Star game was a great affair with the usual showing off in the first half but after that it was like both teams were going for the title. There were 25 lead changes and nine ties in the game but ultimately it was the East who hit their shots when it counted as they took the game 141-133. Memphis’ Cort Majishun was named All Star MVP with 28 points on 11/14 shooting in only 16 minutes which is simply phenomenal with this kind of talent around. Jamil Fleming added 19 points and 8 rebounds for the victors as they had six players in double figures. Enrique Mendez led the way for the West with 30 points while our own Terry McKenzie started at PF for 20 points and 11 rebounds in the loss. Jaymes Kincaid had a really strange game, playing 15 minutes for 0 points on 0/5 shooting and 10 assists. T-Mac was our only participant in the game which I found strange as either Jack or Earl should have been picked.

Western Conference All Star Starters
Ledaryl McMillian, Golden State Warriors
Mike Bickerstaf, Oklahoma City Thunder
Enrique Mendez, Minnesota Timberwolves
Terry McKenzie, Dallas Mavericks
Jimmy Forrest, Portland Trailblazers

Teams with most participants – Portland (Jimmy Forrest, Tiburcio Tommasini) and Denver (Jason London, Schuyler Vanderwerken) with two.
Teams represented – Ten (Portland, Denver, Minnesota, Dallas, Oklahoma City, Golden State, Houston, Sacramento, Milwaukee and Seattle).

Eastern Conference All Star Starters
Jamil Fleming, Philadelphia 76ers
Varlam Chavchavadze, Boston Celtics
Darrell Hampton, Chicago Bulls
Michael McQuay, Atlanta Hawks
Jerry Benton, New Orleans Hornets

Teams with most participants – Atlanta (Michael McQuay, Chris Jones) and Boston (Varlam Chavchavadze, Raul Lopez) with two.
Teams represented – Ten (Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, New Orleans, Philadelphia, Memphis, Washington, Detroit, Indiana, and Toronto).

I know we are sitting pretty on top of the league and the team is clicking really nicely but I really don’t think that pick from New York is going to help a ‘win now’ team like us. And honestly, I love pulling off blockbusters. So I ring Derrick Stowers, the General Manager of the Golden State Warriors.

“Hi Derrick, how’s things?”

“Not bad Yaxley, you’re doing pretty well with yourself out there in Dallas.” He responds.

I’m not a huge fan of mindless pleasantries so I get to the point.

“I want the Buzzsaw.”

Derrick’s tone of voice changes instantly, he is like a mother lion with her cub. “I know you have a load of talent in your team, but Ledaryl is a two time MVP and still only 28 years old. Please don’t undervalue him as I have no patience for pipe dreams, you will have to pay his price.”

“I understand Derrick, so let’s get to it.”

I obviously put the Knicks’ pick on the table as well as Nashon who will fill in nicely at PG for the Warriors but they want more. After what seems like a full day (and twice Derrick left the table vowing he would never come back) we bang out a deal in what will rock the foundation of today’s NBA.

Dallas trade:
C Jeff Cunningham
PG Nashon Smith
SG Tom Phillips
2030 1st round pick (NYK)

Golden State trade:
PG Ledaryl McMillian
C Corey Barnes

Winner – Both surprisingly. Even though the Mavericks get their man and pick up a decent centre in the process the Warriors didn’t leave the table empty handed. Smith is a fantastic point guard and more importantly one of the best perimeter defenders in the league, Cunningham is a dynamite scorer who was put on the back burner in Dallas while Phillips has all the signs of being a top 10-15 SG in the league someday. That leaves a pretty much guaranteed top three pick in this year’s draft that will bolster GSW’s squad even more. The Warriors have three new starters as Tom Phillips has been given his chance to show his stuff after being down in the D-League for the season so far.

I agree completely, even though I got my man crush Derrick didn’t back down. After doing the deal I’m a little anxious that I did the right thing but I believe a combo a Ledaryl/Earl/Jack/T-Mac will be better than what we had. Corey Barnes is starting at C but Mike Lingle will play substantial minutes there to start off.

Our first game with the Buzzsaw was a underwhelming 102-93 win over Boston as it was Corey Barnes who did the damage, going off for 24 points, 17 rebounds, 5 steals and 4 blocks to steal the thunder. Ledaryl had a rough night, shooting 4/15 for 10 points and 12 assists as Earl had 25 points and 9 rebounds. Varlam Chavchavadze was the high man in the game with 26 points, 8 assists and 6 rebounds as Raul Lopez went 9/24 for 19 points and 10 rebounds in the loss.

Dallas Mavericks 39-9

The Buzzsaw revs up in our 108-81 win over Philly with 25 points and 5 assists as T-Mac added 23 points and 12 rebounds. Earl Oliver sprained his wrist and will be out for a while as Ryan Robinson took his spot in the game with 12 points in 10 minutes. John Kelly might have been the highest scorer for the Sixers but he went 6/17 as they shot 36% form the field.

Dallas Mavericks 40-9

The trade deadline is coming up and already there has been some massive deals, not including ours.

Portland trade:
C Jimmy Forrest

Memphis trade:
PF Marcus Randle

Winner – Memphis. Randle has had it tough since he moved to Memphis but he could turn things around with a bonafide MVP level SF just like he did in Dallas with Kevin Durant. Having Tiburcio Tommasini handling the scoring it could open Randle up to do everything else like he did with the Mavericks. The reason Memphis wins this is because Cort Majishun has been carrying this team single handedly so having a fantastic scorer like Forrest will take some of the load of Majishun to really becoming a top three point guard instead of worrying about everything.

Philadelphia trade:
SG BB Henderson
PG Kyrie Irving
C Ben Chambers

Houston trade:
SF Jamaal Lewis
2030 2nd round pick

Winner – Philadelphia. This kind of stupidity from the Rockets should be outlawed as Lewis is so much more talented than the three traded players it’s just not funny. Irving and Chambers were both released so it’s a Lewis for Henderson deal which is horrible for Houston. The Sixers are now championship contenders with this deal and strangely enough all of their starters’ first names begin with the letter J (Jamil Fleming, John Kelly, Jamaal Lewis, Jared Arenas and Justin Robinson).

Isaac Holdan is filling in at SG for the injured Earl Oliver while Mike Lingle is taking over at C for the banged up Corey Barnes in our away game against Boston and for only the fourth time this season we were held to less than 100 points. We still won, 91-85, as the Celtics shot 34% from the field. The Buzzsaw is starting to get going again, this time with 31 points while T-Mac added 17 points and 15 rebounds to help out. Gabriel Estevez had 23 points and 8 rebounds (and 9/19 foul shooting) but they just shot really, really badly as a team.

Dallas Mavericks 41-9

Tiburcio Tommasini had 36 points and 10 rebounds but we finished with the win, outrunning the Blazers 122-111 behind the Buzzsaw’s 26 points and 8 assists. Seven Maverick players were in double figures as Mike Lingle and Corry Hackworth combined for 22 points in 29 minutes off the bench.

Dallas Mavericks 42-9

In a fantastic battle between two of the best SFs in the world, Jack got his revenge on the much more publicized Enrique Mendez, going 11/19 from the field, 7/9 from three and 10/10 from the line with 39 points as we take out the Wolves 123-112. Mendez didn’t embarrass himself, going 12/15 from the field (but 1/6 from the line) for 26 points but eventually fouled out trying to guard our captain. Camah Williams was pretty bad with 11 points and 6 fouls as he and Ledaryl cancelled each other out.

Dallas Mavericks 43-9

It’s amazing having the Buzzsaw (25 points, 8 assists) on our squad but Corey Barnes has been a great find and tonight combined with T-Mac for 26 points and 25 rebounds as we beat up Memphis 105-86. Jimmy Forrest was below his best with 14 points and 7 rebounds as Cort Majishun only scored 7 points but dished out 13 assists.

Dallas Mavericks 44-9

Our last game of February was one of the easiest games we have played all month as we blast the Raptors to kingdom come 138-97 as we shoot 63% from the field. Captain Jack led the way with 29 points while T-Mac and Buzzsaw combined to shoot 18/21 for 44 points as everyone had a least one bucket on the whole team. Matias Perez (who was one of my draftees) was Toronto’s only shining light with 24 points and 8 assists.

Dallas Mavericks 45-9

We’re on a 13 game winning streak and are well and truly leading the pack with a five game lead over Portland and a nine game lead over third placed Denver. Phoenix have taken over in last place at 19-37. Honestly, I thought we would have had a bigger lead with the way we have been playing.

New Orleans and Philadelphia are tied for first place in the East with 22 losses apiece while Chicago are sitting in the final playoff spot with a winning percentage of 45% which really does suck. Orlando are all alone at the bottom of the conference at 13-41.

2. (1) PF Reggie Smith (Kent State), Sophomore, 6’8”, 252lbs
3. (3) C Diego Acosta (Argentina), 19 years old, 6’9”, 245lbs
4. (NR) SG Kenyatta Harvey (Purdue), Freshman, 6’7”, 214lbs
5. (NR) C Darryl Abrams (Pittsburgh), Sophomore, 6’9”, 272lbs

Thoughts – It seems that a Faye/Smith top two is in the books barring a completely brain fade but don’t sleep on Harvey who could easily be a top three draftee if he does well in the combine.

Mid Season Report for the Rookie Six – Year Five

#17 PG Cort Majishun, Memphis Grizzlies – 19.9 points, 9.6 assists, 4.3 rebounds, 1.0 steal, 0.4 blocks

What can’t this guy do? His quickness is unsurpassed, his scoring skills are to die for and his attitude towards the fans is charming. If Ledaryl McMillian didn’t exist Majishun would be the talk of the league with his dynamite, never give in play. However, what started as a turnaround season for the Grizzlies has fallen in a predictable heap with the team being nine games under .500 already and Majishun’s play in going unrewarded. Maybe next season with a full training camp under Jimmy Forrest’s belt the player with the sixth best efficiency in the league might finally get some help.

2x Rookie/Sophomore Game Starter (2025, 2026)
1x All Rookie 1st Team (2025)
1x All Star Game Reserve (2029)
1x All Star Game MVP (2029)

#41 SF Jack Dawkins, Dallas Mavericks – 21.1 points, 6.7 assists, 5.6 rebounds, 0.8 steals, 0.2 blocks

Captain Jack must be walking on air at the moment, not only is he the captain of the defending champions, he also got a fat contract and his team this season has arguably the best point guard and power forward in the league while being the best team so far this season. At only 24 years old he hungers for titles and will do anything he can to get there, even deferring to his teammates like he has done so far.

1x All Star Game Starter (2028)
2x All NBA Second Team (2027, 2028)
1x NBA Championship (2028)

#43 PF Terry McKenzie, Dallas Mavericks – 17.2 points, 1.0 assist, 9.4 rebounds, 1.0 steal, 0.6 blocks

Even though his numbers are down he is still one of the best PFs in the game, it’s just that he has a lot more help in Dallas than he did in New York. Teaming up with fellow Rookie Six member Jack Dawkins has made ‘T-Mac’ become a better player as his overall game and demeanor has changed, he wants a title.

2x All NBA First Team (2027, 2028)
1x All Star Game Starter (2029)
2x Rookie/Sophomore Game Starter (2025, 2026)
1x All Rookie 1st Team (2025)

#13 SG Kenneth Long, Miami Heat – 16.1 points, 7.6 assists, 4.7 rebounds, 1.0 steal, 0.9 blocks

The toll of being a point guard when he really wants to be a shooting guard Long is being stretched in two different directions with terrible results. His scoring numbers are down from last season while his assist averages are down two helpers a game. The Heat need to work out what they want from Long as this kind of back and forth is not good for his confidence.

2x All Star Game Reserve (2027, 2028)
1x All Star Game MVP (2027)
1x NBA Championship (2027)
1x NBA Finals MVP (2027)
2x All NBA 2nd Team (2027, 2028)
1x Rookie/Sophomore Game Starter (2026)
1x All Defence 2nd Team (2028)

#45 C Art Stevenson, Cleveland Cavaliers – 13.7 points, 1.0 assist, 8.2 rebounds, 0.8 steals, 2.3 blocks

The Artisan has been disappointing this season after signing that massive deal to defect from the Riders to the Cavs, as even though his rebounding and shot blocking numbers are good I think that Cleveland wanted him to become a dominant scorer. He will never be a Jimmy Forrest but only 13.7 points a game really isn’t good enough and that will need to change for him to earn his paycheck.

1x All Rookie 2nd Team (2025)

#4 SG Chris Jones, Atlanta Hawks – 15.4 points, 6.8 assists, 5.0 rebounds, 1.6 steals, 0.0 blocks

The only player not to re-sign a long contract with a team, The Wizard decided to take the tender offer and become a unrestricted free agent this off season. He is putting on a show as well, with great numbers on a good Hawks outfit and I’m sure that a lot of teams will come sniffing around Jones later this year.

February Player of the Month – Michael Taylor, Los Angeles Lakers – 30.5 points, 4.6 rebounds, 6.8 assists, 1.1 steals and 0.6 blocks per game.

February Rookie of the Month – Josiah Williams, Indiana Pacers – 10.5 points, 7.6 rebounds, 1.3 assists, 0.6 steals and 0.9 blocks per game.

Ledaryl is really coming into his own with this team if that is possible, putting up 26 points, 13 assists and 7 rebounds as we torch the Magic 125-99 to keep our season rolling. T-Mac added 23 points and 12 rebounds but Earl came off the bench tonight as rumours of off court antics are interfering with his play. Something to keep and eye on. Steve Smith was the high man for Orlando with 25 points.

Dallas Mavericks 46-9

Even though we won (really) easily against the Bobcats 124-88 I’m starting to feel a little anxious that Earl Oliver came off the bench again which means that there is some kind of rift with him and the coaching staff because he isn’t injured. I hope things work out before the playoffs. Ledaryl had 33 points while Jack, T-Mac and Corey Barnes combined for 44 points and 36 rebounds in the win. James Blakemore had 26 points for the vanquished but this game was over before quarter time as Bryce Metcalf finished by shooting 1/13 from the field for 4 points. He might be an outstanding rebounder but he is an atrocious shooter (career 33.7% shooting).

Dallas Mavericks 47-9

That’s 16 wins in a row as we rout the Wizards 139-109 as nobody seems to be able to stop us at the moment. The Buzzsaw added 31 points while Earl Oliver scored 21 points in 23 minutes off the bench (again). DeShaun Worley was the best for Washington with 14 points, 14 assists, 8 rebounds and 8 turnovers.

Dallas Mavericks 48-9

I have a chat with Coach Garnett to air my worries but I’m told that I’m stressing for nothing as with the addition of Ledaryl we need some bench scoring to keep the pace when our starters have a rest. This makes Earl a supersub that doesn’t start but plays when it’s most important. Phew.

Now that I know the Earl strategy his game is looking gooooood, going 11/15 for 29 points as we beat the Jazz 135-122 in SLC. The Buzzsaw added 23 points and 13 assists while Jack put up 23 point as well. Mark Lewis was a lone hand with 30 points and 14 rebounds as even though Utah shot better than us (56% to 53%) we forced 17 turnovers and shot a better free throw rate, but what’s so surprising from a team with Mark Lewis.

Dallas Mavericks 49-9

The Bobcats try and get their revenge but the result is much of the same, a 108-84 win to us in Charlotte. The Buzzsaw was in fine form with 34 points, 11 assists and 7 rebounds while Earl put up 25 points in 28 minutes off the bench. I guess Coach Garnett knew what he was doing. Dan Mixson had 21 points for the Bobcats but they were just outclassed like before.

Dallas Mavericks 50-9

Wow, what a game. We travelled to SacTown and didn’t expect such a fight from the Kings, as there were 15 lead changes and eight ties as the game went into overtime as Sacramento scred the last five points of the game. Jaymes Kincaid was spectacular with 36 points and 9 assists before fouling out while all of their starters (plus bench Quinn Kelly) had at least 17 points. That didn’t matter as our newest superstar tore the opposition to shreds as the Buzzsaw exploded for 49 points and 11 assists as we took the game 158-145 in extra time. Jack, T-Mac and Corey have become a great frontcourt, tonight adding 68 points, 34 rebounds and 18 assists as Corey has become an integral part of this team.

Dallas Mavericks 51-9

This team is really clicking as we win our 20th game in a row with a 65-45 second half to stomp the Pacers 127-97. It was Captain Jack’s turn to do the damage with 27 points, 10 assists and 6 rebounds but of course the Buzzsaw revved up with 28 points. Jason Sanders was the leader for Indiana with 18 points but it’s good to see Josiah Williams playing well with 14 points and 6 rebounds in his first year.

Dallas Mavericks 52-9

It was more of the same as we get out to a 29-10 first quarter lead to let the bench to their thing as we demolish Phoenix 122-86. Ledaryl had 29 points but Bernard Crispin was the hero, scoring 10 points and grabbing 5 rebounds as his teammates loved every one of them as he doesn’t get many minutes usually.

Dallas Mavericks 53-9

Terry McKenzie is seen as the third star on this team behind Jack and the Buzzsaw but tonight ‘T-Mac’ showed what he can do without any restraints, going 24/34 from the field for 49 points, 7 rebounds and 6 steals as we beat Phoenix again 131-113 to keep the ball rolling. Danny Perez tried his best for the Suns with 21 points but this game was all T-Mac.

Dallas Mavericks 54-9

We are just looking completely bulletproof at the moment as T-Mac again took the lead with 33 points and 10 rebounds as we beat up the Grizz 115-85. Earl added 19 points off the bench as we went 60% from the field to obliterate the Jimmy Forrest-less Memphis side. As usual, Cort Majishun was the high man with 22 points and 8 assists but he was forced all night and went 8/23 from the field. Poor guy.

Dallas Mavericks 55-9

Phoenix must be hating the schedule right now as they play us again and the result is exactly the same: a blowout. Earl and Ledaryl combine for 59 points as we smash the Suns 130-86. T-Mac could only manage 18 points but it was a cruisy game. Danny Perez was again the best for the losers with 18 points and 8 rebounds.

Dallas Mavericks 56-9

Our streak keeps going as I really have a feeling that we might get to 30 in a row as we smash the Sonics 123-80 behind Ledaryl’s 37 points, 10 assists and 8 rebounds as I feel like he might be MVP this season. Earl and Mike Lingle combined for 31 points off the bench as it just wasn’t close. Alfons Dietz added 20 points for the losers but turned it over seven times.

Dallas Mavericks 57-9

T-Mac goes 6/9 for 16 points and 12 rebounds in 22 minutes, Jack adds 20 points and we keep on winning, not letting the Pistons ever hold a lead to win 104-85. Marlon Haymon has 25 points and 11 rebounds for Detroit as we get our 26th win in a row.

Dallas Mavericks 58-9

It’s closer but not close enough as the Sonics lose to us again as T-Mac and the Buzzsaw combine for 66 points as we win again 127-107 in Seattle. Jack doubles up with 17 points and 10 assists as we hold the Sonics to 20 turnovers compared to our measly seven as Marlo Graham is the only Sonic that turns up with 31 points.

Dallas Mavericks 59-9

That’s now 27 wins in a row, six wins behind the most ever which is held by the 1971-1972 LA Lakers with 33 wins in a row. If we can get past the Hornets and Blazers in the next two games we should have a really good chance of breaking that record.

Well that was disappointing as we rout the Hornets 146-114 to inch closer to the record as Jack went 11/11 from the field and 9/10 from the line for 36 points and 8 assists as Ledaryl added 31 points and 13 assists. Mike Lingle was great as well with 19 points, 10 rebounds and 4 blocks in 28 minutes. Jerry Benton has become one of the best steals in a recent draft with 31 points and 11 rebounds as he was drafted #24 four years ago and is now an all star averaging 20 points and 8 rebounds a game on the season.

Dallas Mavericks 60-9

Our next big battle was against the Blazers and again there was no contest as we run out of Oregon with a 107-88 win. Ledaryl torched Reggie Dobbins for 28 points as Jack was close to a triple double with 22 points, 9 assists and 8 rebounds. It’s strange to see Marcus Randle in a Portland uniform but there he is, putting up 13 points and 10 rebounds with seven turnovers as he just can’t get back to his Dallas days wherever he goes.

Dallas Mavericks 61-9

Make that 30 wins in a row as we outcome a scare from the Riders as Captain Jack led the way with 33 points, 11 assists and 7 rebounds to take the win 115-109. Corey Barnes was the help this time with 13 points and 10 rebounds as we just couldn’t get past San Diego and were in trouble of dropping this one. Leone de Niro was the best for 25 points but Luke Owens was so close to a triple double with 9 points, 14 assists and 10 rebounds which would have been his fifth career triple double.

Dallas Mavericks 62-9

Our last game of the month was a shocker, no doubt. We got down to a 32-17 first quarter deficit and never led in the game as we get our 30 game winning streak snapped by Nevada 112-98. To make matters worse it was at home. Darren Banks shook off eight turnovers for 26 points, 14 assists and 8 rebounds as we shot an anemic 41% from the field, a whopping 10% less than our average. T-Mac led the way with 25 points but this just wasn’t our game.

Dallas Mavericks 62-10

With that slightly disappointing note we finish March with an eight game lead over second placed Portland who just won’t go away at 53-18 as Denver are a little way back in third at 49-22. Phoenix are just hating life in general at the moment at the bottom of the conference at 23-48.

Philadelphia and New Orleans are in a heated battle for the first seed in the East with the Sixers slightly on top at 46-25 while the Hornets are right behind them at 47-28 so it’s going to be close. Orlando have dug a hole for themselves at 16-58 and the 20-54 Knicks probably won’t be able to catch them for the best odds in the lottery.

Last Round of NBA Draft Prospects
1. (2) PF Reggie Smith (Kent State), Sophomore, 6’8”, 252lbs
2. (5) C Darryl Abrams (Pittsburgh), Sophomore, 6’9”, 272lbs
3. (1) PF Ishmael Faye (Virginia Tech), Freshman, 6’10”, 252lbs
4. (4) SG Kenyatta Harvey (Purdue), Freshman, 6’7”, 214lbs
5. (3) C Diego Acosta (Argentina), 19 years old, 6’9”, 245lbs

Thoughts – Smith looks like the number one pick but where did Abrams come from? He is averaging 16 points and 12 rebounds a game and has the bulk to be a real banger down low in the pros. Not a good crop for point guards as there is only one in the top ten (#8 Curtis Mueller).

STOCKHOLM – In news that will shock the basketballing world the two best players in the world not in the NBA will throw their hats in the ring to prove themselves in the best basketball league in the world. Twins Magnus and Oskar Carlsson have decided to leave the EuroLeague behind for greener pastures in the NBA. This comes as a surprise as the twins will be 33 years old when next season starts after dominating Europe for over a decade. When asked why they have decided to join the NBA now and not ten years ago Magnus replied, “We wanted to see if we can dominated America like we have dominated this continent.” They will enter their names in the NBA draft this off season which is a massive win for the teams already out of the playoffs as either one of the Carlsson brothers will definitely turn a franchise around for a couple of years at least. Both brothers play at the shooting guard position and both stand 6’7”.

Older by 24 minutes, Magnus is an offensive dynamo. His scoring is legendary and is the only EuroLeague player to score 100 points in a game when he scored 104 in a semi-final five years ago. He can score in every concieveable way and a double team in mandatory when playing him. His defense leaves a lot to be desired as he usually lets Oskar take over on that end so never learned how to be a decent defender.

On the other hand, younger brother Oskar is as good a defender as you will ever see. His lockdown pressure and presence on the help defence is simply unheard of and must be seen to believed. He is also an amazing rebounder and passer but like his brother he has a pretty big flaw in his game: his offence. The two twins have created a symbiotic playing style that feeds off each other and in the NBA on other teams they won’t be able to do this and Oskar’s offence will suffer. To be blunt, his shooting flat out stinks. His shooting stroke is broken and after playing for so long just doesn’t look for his shot at all and will only shoot a jumpshot if absolutely necessary.

This draft has just gone from good to magnificent as these two Swedish twins are game changing. They have flaws in their games like everyone else but what they do well they do better than anyone in the league right now. At 33 years old they won’t have many productive years but right now it will be a sight to behold. The NBA draft is held on June 28th.

March Player of the Month – Michael McQuay, Atlanta Hawks – 30.5 points, 8.9 rebounds, 1.5 assists, 1.8 steals and 0.7 blocks per game.

March Rookie of the Month – Danny Perez, Phoenix Suns – 17.8 points, 6.5 rebounds, 1.1 assists, 0.7 steals and 1.1 blocks per game.

It’s not a losing streak as we take care of the Raptors on all fronts, winning in Canada 115-95. Jack had 22 points and 8 rebounds while T-Mac and Corey doubled up. Marcus Sanders led the way for Toronto with 31 points and 11 rebounds but they turned the ball over 18 times compared to our twelve.

Dallas Mavericks 63-10

We go down to Chicago 111-102 as Darrell Hampton top scores with 28 points but the biggest story was Ryan Robinson having a go at Ledaryl McMillian after the game, saying that the Buzzsaw is a distraction and Nashon Smith was better anyway. That simply isn’t true even though Nashon was a great player I’m glad we have Ledaryl and I blast into Ryan, saying that if he has one more outburst like that he will be a distraction and looking for a job. And believe me, looking for a job in April is really, really hard. He didn’t like that and stormed off.

Dallas Mavericks 63-11

Ledaryl had 26 points and 10 assists, T-Mac went 10/13 for 22 points and 8 rebounds while Jack added 18 points, 11 rebounds and 8 assists as we come back from an eighteen point deficit in the third term to steal a 114-105 away win over Detroit. We outscored the Pistons 35-23 in the final term to snatch victory. Antonio Mims was the best for the vanquished with 22 points.

Dallas Mavericks 64-11

We’re not winning by as much lately and that might be because of fatigue, shown by our 123-117 win over the average OKC Thunder. Sure we won but it seems these guys need a rest. Ledaryl was our best with 22 points and 11 assists while Earl added 21 points and 7 rebounds off the bench. Mike Bickerstaf had 22 points on 22 shots while Hayletts Wilcox had a much better game with 25 points on 14 shots.

Dallas Mavericks 65-11

With six games to go in the season we have an eleven game lead over Portland so I tell Coach to rest our stars, so we trot out a starting five of Isaac Holdan, Matt Wingfield, Corry Hackworth, Issiah Hemhill and Mike Lingle for the last half dozen.

Guess what? We won! We beat the Hawks in overtime 116-104 as Isaac Holdan shows his stuff with 22 points and 11 assists. Mike Lingle was also great with 18 points, 13 rebounds and 5 blocks. Hell, recently signed 15th man Haven Roberson had 17 points in 15 minutes to show just how good we played. James McDaniel had 25 points, 7 turnovers, 6 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals while Chris Jones went 5/16 for 11 points and 10 assists. His great start has evaporated and he really needs to go to a team that will play him at SG.

Dallas Mavericks 66-11

Next up is two away games against Milwaukee and we get the win again, as Mike Lingle is really showing what he can do with minutes with 26 points and 11 rebounds, while Issiah Hemhill and Isaac Holdan both scored 21 points. William Jones popped his head up for 16 points off the bench as well. Lisandro Perez and Ron Morgan combined for 58 points but when the score was 132-122 defence is out of the question.

Dallas Mavericks 67-11

The second game of our two matches against Milwaukee is more of what I thought would happen as we get beaten handsomely 103-87. Lisandro Perez was again the best with 23 points, 7 assists, 6 steals and 5 rebounds while Larry Robinson had 11 points and 13 rebounds off the bench. Not to be outdone off the bench, William Jones had 12 points and 15 rebounds as Mike Lingle led us with 21 points and 10 rebounds. Corry Hackworth had a night to forget, going 1/10 for 4 points and six fouls in 19 minutes.

Dallas Mavericks 67-12

That’s probably our first losing streak of the season as we go down in a very low scoring game to San Diego 96-88 as Leone de Niro had 20 points and 13 rebounds but the main storyline of the game was neither team shot better than 39% from the field. It was ugly. Ryan Robinson led us with 19 points but this was a game to forget.

Dallas Mavericks 67-13

It’s not much of a losing streak as we stomp the Knicks 101-89 with Isaac Holdan putting up 20 points, 10 assists and 4 steals as every one of our players was on the court for at least 15 minutes which is great for the guys who don’t play much. Marquis Bowen had 23 points and 6 blocks for New York as Julius Hobbs has looked terrible as a number one option and tonight only had 13 points and 7 rebounds.

Dallas Mavericks 68-13

In our last game of the season, seven Mavericks were in double figures paced by Mike Lingle’s 24 points as we end on a high note, beating San Antonio 128-123. Matt Wingfield had 23 points as Isaac Holdan played Santa with 12 helpers. Darcel Settles led the Spurs with 25 points and 9 assists but they just couldn’t keep up with our frenetic pace.

Dallas Mavericks 69-13

Eastern Conference Final Standings
1 – Philadelphia 76ers – 56-26 (.683)
2 – New Orleans Hornets – 51-31 (.622)
3 – Washington Wizards – 50-32 (.610)
4 – Boston Celtics – 47-35 (.573)
5 – Miami Heat – 47-35 (.573)
6 – Atlanta Hawks – 41-41 (.500)
7 – Brooklyn Nets – 40-42 (.488)
8 – Chicago Bulls – 34-48 (.415)
Last – Orlando Magic – 18-64 (.220)

That’s right; Chicago made it to the playoffs seven games under .500, what a joke.

Western Conference Final Standings
1 – Dallas Mavericks – 69-13 (.841)
2 – Portland Trailblazers – 59-23 (.720)
3 – Denver Nuggets – 58-24 (.707)

5 – San Antonio Spurs – 48-34 (.585)
6 – Milwaukee Bucks – 48-34 (.585)
7 – Nevada Neon – 46-36 (.561)
8 – San Diego Riders – 43-39 (.524)
Last – Phoenix Suns – 30-52 (.366)

Last placed Phoenix was only four games behind the eighth seeded Bulls.

2030 NBA Playoffs

Eastern Conference
#1 Philadelphia vs. #8 Chicago
#2 New Orleans vs. #7 Brooklyn
#3 Washington vs. #6 Atlanta
#4 Boston vs. #5 Miami

Western Conference
#1 Dallas vs. #8 San Diego
#2 Portland vs. #7 Nevada
#3 Denver vs. #6 Milwaukee
#4 Minnesota vs. #5 San Antonio

We won the season series 2-1 against the Riders but they have pretty good momentum going into this so we can’t treat them like pushovers.

Western Conference First Round – San Diego vs. Dallas

Point Guard
Luke Owens vs. Ledaryl McMillian
11.6 points, 10.5 assists, 5.4 rebounds vs. 29.1 points, 7.4 assists, 4.6 rebounds

Owens was a part of the Mavericks squad recently but didn’t play a game as he was traded in the Earl Oliver deal and he is tearing it up in San Diego. He will never be a very good scorer but the rest of his game has filled out nicely. That doesn’t count for much when he is going up against arguably the best player in the league in Ledaryl McMillian who is gunning for his first championship.

Winner - Dallas

Shooting Guard
Kelly Pryor vs. Earl Oliver
14.7 points, 2.7 assists, 5.0 rebounds vs. 19.3 points, 1.8 assists, 4.2 rebounds

Another ex-Mav, Pryor has made a name for himself as a lockdown defender who can score in bunches. This will be a great match-up as Oliver has trouble with great defenders as he has been put back into the starting line-up for the playoffs after coming off the bench previously.

Winner - Dallas

Small Forward
John Brown vs. Jack Dawkins
16.4 points, 2.5 assists, 7.1 rebounds vs. 21.0 points, 6.8 assists, 5.7 rebounds

His scoring numbers are down this season but having the Buzzsaw and T-Mac on his team will do that to him. Don’t be misunderstood though, Captain Jack is still a world beater and can dazzle anyone on any night. Brown is good and will get most of his own but Jack is a much, much better player.

Winner - Dallas

Power Forward
Leone de Niro vs. Terry McKenzie
13.4 points, 1.0 assist, 6.6 rebounds vs. 17.9 points, 1.0 assist, 9.2 rebounds

Another Dallas player to have his numbers go down since moving to Texas, T-Mac is the guy who steps up when everyone else has fallen. His clutch play is unrelenting and whenever the Mavericks need something it’s usually McKenzie. De Niro on the other hand is decidedly average, a journeyman who has been around the league a bit but not really sticking anywhere.

Winner - Dallas

Centre
Chad Gaines vs. Corey Barnes
14.7 points, 1.2 assists, 6.9 rebounds vs. 9.5 points, 0.9 assists, 8.4 rebounds, 1.1 steals, 0.8 blocks

A nice surprise the Mavericks have got themselves when they traded for McMillian and got Barnes as well as the ninth year man has been a great asset in the middle. He rebounds and defenders and does all the dirty work needed with superstars on the team. If he can hold onto Gaines it will go a long way to brushing past the Riders.

Winner - Draw

Bench
Murray Cornette, Eddie Harris, Chris Benjamin vs. Mike Lingle, Corry Hackworth, Bernard Crispin

Cornette, Lingle and Hackworth could be starting on other teams while Benjamin, Harris and Crispin are pretty forgettable. If Cornette can get this stroke going it should bring the Riders back into contention.

Winner – Dallas

Prediction – Dallas in five. The Riders might steal one but that’s all.

The Dallas crowd is playing this series off as a warm up for the remainder of the playoffs and judging by game one it won’t be much more as we blast San Diego 125-96 to set a standard. Ledaryl McMillian had 36 points, 6 assists and 5 rebounds as T-Mac went 12/14 from the field for 28 points and 8 rebounds. Chad Gaines was great in defeat with 21 points but when their two best players in Luke Owens and Kelly Pryor go 5/21 it’s going to be a long night.

Dallas leads 1-0

Wow, what a change of momentum game two was as the Riders blast us, not only on the offensive end but also kept us to 39% shooting as we lose home court advantage very easily 109-90. Kelly Pryor was magnificent with 35 points but he had heaps of help with Luke Owens (16 points, 12 assists, 9 rebounds) and Chad Gaines (24 points, 10 rebounds) all pitched in. Our best was Jack with 23 points and 9 rebounds but our other stars failed as T-Mac went 9/20 and the Buzzsaw was blunted to only 7/19 shooting.

Series tied 1-1

Earl Oliver was sent back to the bench with Haven Roberson starting at SG which is never a good sign as Kelly Pryor dominated again, going 11/20 for 30 points and 8 rebounds as we lose for the second time in a row, 117-104. Chad Gaines is becoming a thorn in my side with 20 points and 10 rebounds as we were held to poor shooting again. Jack and T-Mac both put up 22 points but Ledaryl is having real trouble with Luke Owens, going 4/20 for only 11 points and 5 turnovers.

San Diego leads 2-1

Corey Barnes fouled out in 26 minutes as Chad Gaines again played well with 15 points while Leone de Niro and John Brown combined for 43 points and it seemed that we were to lose again. None of that mattered after the Buzzsaw revved up as our newest star had 33 points, 9 rebounds and 8 assists as we torch the Riders after quarter time to bring the series back 135-94. Mike Lingle had 11 points and 13 rebounds while T-Mac scored 24 points in the win.

Series tied 2-2

There were three sweeps in other series’ with Philadelphia and Boston taking care of business in the East while Minnesota lazily drove past San Antonio in four games.

Back on our home turf it seemed like a wake up tonic for the team as Ledaryl had 29 points, Jack added 25 points while Mike and Earl combined for 29 as we stomp the Riders 129-118 to take back the series lead. We shot 60% from the field and 59% from behind the arc as San Diego was just blasted off the court. John Brown led the Riders with 25 points while Chad Gaines is really making a name for himself with 23 points and 8 rebounds in the loss.

Dallas leads 3-2

One more game and we can go home and rest up for the next round but before that we need to eliminate these pesky Riders. Ledaryl had 26 points as we held a five point half time lead but after that we seemed to stop playing, giving up a 65-41 second half to get laughed out of the building, losing game six 121-98. The Riders shot 61% from the field as we just gave up after we got down in the third which really isn’t a good sign going into a game seven. Chad Gaines was again the best with 26 points and 9 rebounds while Murray Cornette had a frenzied game, playing 17 minutes, going 7/7 from the field for 17 points, 5 blocks and 6 turnovers. Talk about getting his money’s worth.

Series tied 3-3

Surprisingly there are two other series going the distance as Washington and Denver punching their tickets in due time.

This is it, I really don’t want to be laughed at for the rest of the off season as the number one team who got knocked out of the playoffs in the first round. It didn’t start well as Kelly Pryor was hitting everything on his way to 31 points as the Riders opened a nine point quarter time lead. After that it was all The Buzzsaw as Ledaryl lit up the Riders to the tune of 45 points as we won every other quarter to finally take the series 129-107. Earl was also magnificent with 26 points off the bench but we do have some injury concerns as Mike Lingle strained his calf and won’t be 100% for around two weeks. John Brown helped out Pryor with 20 points but I’m just going to put this series behind us and never talk of it again.

Dallas wins 4-3

The other two series that went to a game seven were both won by the underdog as Brooklyn and Nevada, both number seven seeds, took out New Orleans and Portland, both number two seeds, in very tight contests. Mike Joseph hit a game winner with 2.4 seconds to go in overtime to get his Neon across the line against the Blazers.

2030 NBA Playoffs

Eastern Conference
#1 Philadelphia vs. #4 Boston
#3 Washington vs. #7 Brooklyn

Western Conference
#1 Dallas vs. #4 Minnesota
#3 Denver vs. #7 Nevada

We won the series against the Wolves 3-1 and that loss came in our second game of the season which doesn’t really count as we aren’t that team any more.

Western Conference Semi-Finals – Minnesota vs. Dallas

Point Guard
Camah Williams vs. Ledaryl McMillian
19.3 points, 7.5 assists, 3.0 rebounds vs. 28.4 points, 7.0 assists, 4.4 rebounds

This is without a doubt the battle between the two best point guards in the league (my apologies to Los Angeles’ Michael Taylor). Williams is simply a phenomenal player who can pass, score and more importantly defend with the best of them so if he can slow down the Buzzsaw this may well send the Wolves through.

Winner - Draw

Shooting Guard
Colin Walker (Adarrial Faye) vs. Haven Roberson (Earl Oliver)
8.3 points, 3.8 assists, 3.5 rebounds (20.0 points, 3.3 assists, 3.5 rebounds) vs. 9.0 points, 1.4 assists, 2.7 rebounds (15.1 points, 0.9 assists, 2.7 rebounds)

The battle of the two supersubs. Walker and Roberson are just place holders for the more superior bench players in Faye and Oliver. Even though Faye has had a better post season so far Oliver is the better player who should shine out in the end.

Winner - Dallas

Small Forward
Enrique Mendez vs. Jack Dawkins
25.0 points, 4.5 assists, 8.8 rebounds vs. 18.3 points, 7.6 assists, 6.6 rebounds

Another drool-worthy match-up in two of the three best small forwards in the league (with Tiburcio Tommasini the other). Mendez is a terrible defender but does everything else wonderfully while Jack Dawkins is gone to another level since he became captain of the Mavericks. Expect fireworks.

Winner - Draw

Power Forward
Robert Williams vs. Terry McKenzie
16.0 points, 1.3 assists, 11.5 rebounds vs. 21.4 points, 0.9 assists, 8.3 rebounds

This... won’t be pretty. Sure Williams put up good numbers in the first round but he defence is terrible at best and McKenzie is on a tear. I don’t have high hopes for Minnesota here.

Winner - Dallas

Centre
Billy Manley vs. Corey Barnes
14.8 points, 1.3 assists, 8.8 rebounds vs. 5.4 points, 1.1 assists, 6.7 rebounds

Even though Barnes has been a good addition to the team his first round performance was lacking. Manley, one of not many second rounders to actually start in the league, played wonderfully and should do the same here.

Winner - Minnesota

Bench
Addarial Faye, Mitch Wolthers, Francis Culuko vs. Earl Oliver, Mike Lingle, Corry Hackworth

Faye and Oliver have been spoken about previously so it’s Wolthers/Culuko vs. Lingle/Hackworth and all that is to be said is that both Lingle and Hackworth could start for lesser teams while the Minnesota pair would be sixth men at best.

Winner – Dallas

Prediction – Dallas in seven. The Mavericks aren’t going to want another full series so if Minnesota can stretch it out then they might cause the upset.

I’m a little worried about this series as the Wolves have far too many weapons for my liking. That fear was realised when they shot 54% from the field as the ‘other’ guy that was written off, Robert Williams, went 11/13 for 28 points and 7 rebounds. Luckily for us their two superstars combined for 15 points and 10 fouls as we shot 62% from the field to draw first blood 141-117. Jack had 35 points and 12 assists but it was T-Mac who had the blinder, going 11/11 for 23 points while Ledaryl added 28 points and 11 assists in the win. So far, so good.

Dallas leads 1-0

I’m expecting backlash from Minnesota after they were humbled in the first game. T-Mac had other ideas with 25 points and 14 rebounds while Corey Barnes piped up for 26 points of his own. I could stretch this report out but the main thing is that we shot 60% from the field to their 44% as we take a choke hold on the series 138-114. Enrique Mendez had 31 points but Camah Williams was partially nullified with 13 points and 11 assists on 4/12 shooting. If Minnesota wants to win they need him firing. Game one star Robert Williams was held to 7 points and 6 fouls.

Dallas leads 2-0

After winning the title in 2026 the Wolves have been very disappointing even though they have sported a very similar roster to that title win so the city really wants to get past us. Too bad we burst out of the gates as Corey Barnes, Jack Dawkins and Ledaryl McMillian combined for 80 points as we got out to a 24 point third quarter lead and it looked like we were home free. Unfortunately, all of those misses that Enrique Mendez was missing turned into makes as the Argentinean superstar went on a rampage, scoring 16 of his 29 points while Robert Williams added 26 points as the Wolves rattled off a 38-23 last quarter to take a three point lead late. Luckily for us we had the Buzzsaw who steered us out of oblivion to take a 3-0 series lead with a 119-115 win. Phew. Camah Williams had a better game with 17 points, 9 assists and 6 steals but it just wasn’t enough, especially when he only shot nine shots on the game, hitting six.

Dallas leads 3-0

Now the Minnesota crowd is nervous, it’s not like them to be swept by anyone. In game four Enrique Mendez had 35 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists as five other Timberwolves were in double figures as they outshot us 51% to 48%. This means that the Wolves got out to a 13 point lead at three quarter time. In nearly exact fashion, we roared back behind Jack Dawkins’ 28 points and 7 assists as we outscored our opponents 30-16 in the final term and switched the script to actually win the game 118-111 to get out the brooms. T-Mac had 24 points and 9 rebounds and this is now the furthest he has ever been in his five year career.

Dallas wins 4-0

I would never have thought we would sweep the Wolves and it really makes us the favourites to take this whole thing out. Denver also swept their series, taking out the Neon 4-0. The East series didn’t last much longer as both Philadelphia and Washington punched their tickets to the next round in five games.

2030 NBA Playoffs

Eastern Conference
#1 Philadelphia vs. #3 Washington

Western Conference
#1 Dallas vs. #3 Denver

We swept the season series 3-0 against the Nuggets, all by pretty hefty margins but this team is steaming ahead at the moment and shouldn’t be undervalued.

Western Conference Finals – Denver vs. Dallas

Point Guard
Jehiel DeSantis vs. Ledaryl McMillian
10.8 points, 9.9 assists, 5.2 rebounds vs. 26.1 points, 7.9 assists, 4.1 rebounds

DeSantis has a sprained finger and will be less than perfect for at least the first three games which is bad news for the Nuggets because pretty much all of the offence goes through him. He is a very talented passer and defender and even though he will never be a great scorer what he does in other areas makes up for it. This is going to be tough for Denver because the Buzzsaw is getting better and better this post season and is looking for a championship ring.

Winner - Dallas

Shooting Guard
Jason London vs. Haven Roberson
29.6 points, 1.5 assists, 4.6 rebounds vs. 9.1 points, 1.4 assists, 3.0 rebounds

The Nuggets don’t like London and London doesn’t like Denver but for now he is on fire. He is leading all players in scoring in the playoffs and is trying to put his name out there for his eventual trade. He will be up against Earl Oliver for the most part who is struggling in his bench role and could be exploitable by Denver.

Winner - Denver

Small Forward
Brad Largent vs. Jack Dawkins
9.0 points, 1.3 assists, 4.3 rebounds vs. 21.0 points, 7.5 assists, 5.6 rebounds

Another player who is struggling is Brad Largent who is definitely not a small forward. He is just too slow to keep up with genuine SFs which spells trouble for Denver as Jack Dawkins is as good as they come.

Winner - Dallas

Power Forward
Carl Farmer vs. Terry McKenzie
14.1 points, 1.6 assists, 11.6 rebounds vs. 20.9 points, 0.7 assists, 8.5 rebounds

The leader rebounder in the playoffs, Farmer has brought that touch of class to the team that was missing. He also blocks over two shots a game which will give McKenzie problems as even though ‘T-Mac’ is playing at the top of his game at the moment, gifted defenders worry him.

Winner - Draw

Centre
Schuyler Vanderwerken vs. Corey Barnes
19.4 points, 1.3 assists, 10.5 rebounds vs. 10.9 points, 1.2 assists, 7.0 rebounds

It has taken only four seasons for ‘Shoo’ to go from extremely raw to one of the elite centres in the league. He can score, rebound and block shots with the best of them and he is only 22 years old. If the Nuggets can keep Shoo and Farmer together that’s one hell of a front line. Barnes will need to pull all of his luck out to win this battle and even then it probably won’t be enough.

Winner - Denver

Bench
Sean Morris, Leon Oliver, Eli Mahorn vs. Earl Oliver, Mike Lingle, Corry Hackworth

It’s probably not fair to include Oliver in this category as he will be playing for most of the game but that doesn’t take away from the talent in Lingle and Hackworth. Both took substantial pay cuts to play for a championship contending teams and have been excellent for the second unit so far. Leon Oliver is still learning the game but can do what is needed in small bursts while Morris and Mahorn might not have the elite skills but their experience and court savvy is just what the Nuggets need.

Winner – Dallas

Prediction – Dallas in six. With DeSantis injured for the first three games at least it is going to be too hard from the Nuggets to get back into the series if they go down early.

Ever since we won the championship there has been more and more fans coming to our games and being pro-Mavs in public in general, even more than the Kevin Durant/Andre Drummond teams a couple of years ago. It might be because of our comeback from oblivion after all of those sanctions on the team but I’m not complaining, more fans is better than less!

The crowd is no doubt one of the best I’ve seen in a while, as this Denver team won 58 games this season and aren’t to be trifled with. Especially when Jason London scores 35 points and Shoo and Carl Famer combine for 39 points, 17 rebounds and 9 blocks. It was our stars versus theirs as Ledaryl had 26 points, Jack added 19 points, 12 assists and 9 rebounds while T-Mac had a quiet 18 points and 11 rebounds. It was the fourth best players on each team that won the game as Earl Oliver had 20 points while Jehiel DeSantis went 1/3 for 5 points and 8 turnovers (as well as 14 assists and 8 rebounds) as we took the first game 117-104.

Dallas leads 1-0

It’s weird to have a scoring point guard as all throughout my general manager career I’ve leaned towards passing PGs who set people up. Ledaryl McMillian blows all of that out of the water, especially in game two when he had 34 points and 6 assists as we smash the Nuggets 113-81 and the Dallas public is getting excited. Jack only played six minutes in the game after tweaking his ankle but doctors gave us the all clear that he will be fully healed for next game. Earl is loving this series with 25 points and 8 rebounds in 35 minutes filling in for Captain jack. The Nuggets fell in a heap this game as they shot 34% from the field and their leading scorer was Shoo with only 14 points as Jason London and Brad Largent shot 6/21 on the game.

Dallas leads 2-0

The Nuggets haven’t made it past the first round in eleven years when they got to the western conference finals and this is the first time they have won over 50 games in a season since 2015 which was my first year at Memphis so this crowd is frenzied. We shut them down quickly though and in the third quarter you could hear a pin drop as all the life was drained from the place after a 72-48 first half lead to us. Ledaryl McMillian, T-Mac, Jack and Earl combined for a whopping 100 points, four more than all of Denver’s players as we take a choke hold on the series with a 124-96 shellacking. We shot 58% from the field as T-Mac added 13 rebounds and Buzzsaw handed out 10 assists with Jason London the high man for Denver with only 16 points.

Dallas leads 3-0

This is it, this is the moment we see if the Nuggets have any fight left n them. And judging by Shoo’s dismantling the answer is yes. The big Dutchman had 34 points and 13 rebounds as Jason London added 31 points for the Nuggets’ first win of the series 117-96. Jack had 22 points and T-Mac added 16 points and 18 rebounds but when a big man is that dominant there isn’t much we can do about it.

Dallas leads 3-1

I don’t really want to go back to Denver so if we can win here and move on it will be much better for my heart. Luckily for me and my heart, we won every quarter to take the game 118-99 and the series 4-1! Jack had a great captain’s knock with 25 points, 9 rebounds and 7 assists as Corey Barnes shut down Shoo for 24 points and 9 rebounds to Vanderwerken’s 10 points and 8 rebounds. Pretty good from a guy who wasn’t supposed to do anything this series. Jason London played a lone hand with 37 points as the rest of the starters shot 15/42 from the field for not much.

Dallas wins 4-1

The Sixers came from a 3-1 hole to win the next three games to scrape by in seven games to battle us for their first NBA Finals appearance since Allen Iverson was running the show. Damn that’s a long time ago.
