Tip off (1st Half)
14:13, Up 10-8
Not happy with PG Davor Holmes' 4 passing turn overs already; he goes to the bench. We have kept UTSA's SG Keith Anderson scoreless so far
11:52, Up 13-11
What was anticipated as a high-scoring game, turns out to be false so far, as both teams (combined 11 turn overs) finding it difficult to even attempt a shot
7:52, Down 19-27
UTSA suddenly draining 3s. We'll shift to m2m defense.
3:56, Down 25-31
PG Ray Smith also with 4 turn overs. I'll try SG Keith Field to play the 1 spot.
3:12, Down 25-33
Even Field (2 turn overs) giving the ball away. I will up off freedom to 75
Halftime, Up 32-36
12 turnovers, resulting in only 23 FGAs for us. I've tried 3 players to play the point, and all of them played poorly. Somehow, SF Jafar Newby's 9 pts kept us in the game
UTSA's Keith Anderson with 10 pts
We'll further increase off freedom to 85 in the 2nd half. My message to the team is if you can't properly execute our half court sets today, then its up to you to figure out to generate offense
Also decreasing def rebounding to 5
Start of 2nd Half
15:52, Down 40-45
PG Davor Holmes clearly out of focus today with 6 turn overs; he's not coming back on the floor. We'll start doubling UTSA's SG Keith Anderson (15 pts).
11:58, Up 50-49
SF Jafar Newby and PF Rashif McCoy spearheaded a mini 10-4 run, and we take a slim lead.
9:52, Up 58-51
After relinquishing our lead 50-51, SF Angelo Wallace goes on a tear for an 8-0 run
7:30 Up 66-60
The combination of SF's Jafar Newby and Angelo Wallace has worked wonders.
5:19 Up 73-63
PG Ray Smith's converted on his 3 pt play opportunity to give us a double digit lead. More importantly, we have not committed a turn over in the past 10+ minutes
UTSA starting to get off rebounds, so we'll increase def rebounding to 9
3:54, Up 75-69
UTSA still within striking distance. I called a timeout to settle down the troops, and catch their breath
SAM: C Glendon Jackson (18 pts) scored from the low post
UTSA: SG Keith Anderson scores plus foul. FT is good
3:21, Up 77-62
SAM: PF Rashif McCoy missed
UTSA: PF Shannon Beshara scores
2:47, Up 77-74
SAM: SG Keith Field drives. Missed. But Field gets his own off reb. Puts up another shot. It's good. Up 5
UTSA: Anderson called for traveling
2:13, Up 79-74
SAM: Turnover by Smith
UTSA: Another traveling violation for Anderson
SAM: Newby missed, but he gets the off rebound. He passed to Johnson. Johnson got fouled. UTSA is in the penalty. 2 FTs. Johnson splits.
1:28, Up 80-74
We'll slow down the pace
UTSA: Another turnover
SAM: Jackson making his move inside. He took extra steps. UTSA called a timeout
0:48, Up 80-74
They would most likely go to Anderson, so I reminded the team to double him
UTSA: Good denial defense by Wallace on Anderson. Someone else took a quick shot. Missed. We got the rebound. Time out
0:33, Up 80-74
SAM: Smith got fouled quickly. Smith converted both FTs to make it a 3 possession game. No chance for UTSA now
Final score: Sam Houston St - 83, Texas-San Antonio - 77

Post Game Notes
[INDENT]1. A "character-building" win, as the players took accountability of their poor play for almost three-quarters of the game, and successfully figured out among themselves how to turn things around.
2. C Glendon Jackson was consistent and reliable once again. SF's Jafar Newby and Angelo Wallace found ways to co-exist on the floor, and engineered a run to get us the lead
3. UTSA's Keith Anderson finished with 20 pts, but only scored 4 during the last 15 mins of the game.
