Job Openings

Postby PointGuard » Tue Jan 07, 2014 3:28 am

16 programs have head coach openings and have shown interest in me being their new head coach. Several of these are mid-majors including such teams as St. Bonaventure, St. Josephs, Texas-El Paso, Loyola Marymount (where I had been an assistant coach), South Florida and others. My family is encouraging me to take a job with one of the Catholic universities. But after giving it some consideration, I decide to see if I can get New Hampshire up to the top of the America East and winning some games in the NCAA Tournament.

Meeting with the board

Postby PointGuard » Tue Jan 07, 2014 3:29 am

We met one of this year’s goals (Win at least 15 games), but failed at the other (Win the Conference Tourny). Next year’s the board set just one goal…to finish in the top 3 in the conference.

Since the board upgraded our facilities last year, I requested a budget increase this year and was surprised that they approved it. Next year our budget will be $158,550.

2020-2021 Season--Ratings

Postby PointGuard » Tue Jan 07, 2014 3:31 am

The prestige rating for New Hampshire dropped to 11 (-4) and the prestige for the America East Association dropped to 17 (-1). New Hampshire’s facilities remained rated as C+.

2020-2021 Season--Staff

Postby PointGuard » Tue Jan 07, 2014 3:32 am

My present coaching ratings are now: Offense, 69 (+4), Defense-68 (+4), Recruiting, 36 (no change), Scouting, 32 (+1), Player Development, 73 (+4), Reputation, 30 (+2), Job Security, 100 (no change). My coaching contract was renewed for 5 years with a small raise to $100,000/year.

I decide to maintain the same staff, extending 3rd assistant Simon Woodey’s contract for 5 years with a small increase to $17,500. I’d like to extend 1st assistant Kelley Charles, but he wants his salary doubled so that is more than we can afford, so it is likely that the upcoming year will be his last here.

1st assistant: Kelley Charles: Off-20 (no change), Def-40 (+2), Rec-56 (+4), Sc-23 (+1), PD-22 (+1), Rep-12 (no change).

2nd assistant: Jerald Runyan: Off-22 (no change), Def-22 (no change), Rec-20 (no change), Sc-21 (no change), PD-63 (no change), Rep-9 (no change).

3rd assistant: Simon Woodley: Off-20 (no change), Def-22 (no change), Rec-22 (+1), Sc-48 (+1), PD-22 (+1), Rep-9 (no change).

2020-2021 Season--Recruiting Plans

Postby PointGuard » Tue Jan 07, 2014 3:33 am

We only have 2 scholarships to fill this year, so there’s enough money in the budget to buy the Gold report for the Atlantic East Region and the Basic National report.

None of our players are transferring so we have to scholarships to offer to transfer players. There are some good players on the transfer list though.
We decide to attend the Indy Elite Camp and the Big Apple Showcase this summer.

Since a C (Andrew Kresse) and PF (Vinston O’Conner) are graduating this coming year, we would like to land a couple good big men during recruiting this year.

Pro Player News

Postby PointGuard » Tue Jan 07, 2014 3:34 am

In the 2019-2020 season for the NBA and DBL, here’s what happened with players I had previously recruited and worked with at CSU Bakersfield performed:

SG Jerell Brown was on the Chicago Bulls roster in the NBA. He played in just 22 of the 82 games, averaging 4.6 mpg, 0.8 ppg, 0.5 apg, 0.7 rpg. In 3 playoff games, he averaged 5.3 mpg, 2.0 ppg, 1.3 apg, and 1.7 rpg. He’s in the last year of his contract and faces an uncertain future.

PG Randy Durham was on the Iowa Energy roster in the DBL. He played in 41 of 48 games, averaging 6.4 mpg, 1.8 ppg, 0.8 apg, and 0.5 rpg. It’s very likely this may be his last year playing pro ball.

C Jeff Gilbert started out on the Iowa Energy roster, but played very little and was cut early in the season.

2020 Pro Draft

Postby PointGuard » Wed Jan 08, 2014 6:48 pm

SG Bobby Havens was picked late in the 2nd round (#57 overall) by the Atlanta Hawks. He was cut and became a free agent. Rather than play in the DBL, he hooked on with a pro team in Australia.

2020-2021 Non-conference Schedule

Postby PointGuard » Wed Jan 08, 2014 6:50 pm

VMI
@ Providence
KENT STATE
@ George Washington
USC
@ St. Bonaventure
TOLEDO
@ Oregon State
@ Massachusetts
@ Mississippi
@ Xavier

Far too many road games, particularly since we’re playing some good teams. I'm not expecting a stellar record when we enter conference play, but hope the team will be prepared to challenge for the top of the standings.

Summer and Fall Recruiting

Postby PointGuard » Wed Jan 08, 2014 6:51 pm

Just two scholarships to fill this year.

We aimed high and offered scholarships to some top-ranked high school senior big men, only to be shot down repeatedly. We lowered our sights and in early October we picked up our first recruit:

C Ray Watkins, 6-10, HS Sr, Tiverton, Rhode Island, 2.8 GPA. 18.0 ppg, 1.7 apg, 6.9 rpg, 1.7 spg, 1.8 bpg. Good scorer but not a strong rebounder, weak athletically, hard worker, not a leader but doesn’t cause problems either. Ranked #255 in the nation. Overall rating: C.

We'll likely not award the final scholarship until next spring.
