New York, New York! Bringing a championship home

March Player of the Month – Tiburcio Tommasini, Portland Trailblazers – 38.4 points, 5.4 rebounds, 1.5 assists, 2.1 steals and 0.3 blocks per game. TT is on a 19 game streak of 30 points or more.

March Rookie of the Month – Adonis Molnar, Atlanta Hawks – 14.3 points, 3.3 rebounds, 4.7 assists, 1.0 steal and 0.9 blocks per game.

Alright, eleven games to go to see if we can just hold on to sneak into the playoffs. First up is a showcase for one person only – Matias Perez. Our floor general was everywhere with 26 points and 24 assists as we take care of the Celtics 124-114 to improve our draft chances (remember we have their pick this year). Mark Lyday went 12/14 for 29 points and 8 rebounds to be pretty darn good as well but it was all Matias. Raul Lopez was the best for the Celts with 27 points as Chav-chav had a rough night with 12 points and 6 fouls.

Brooklyn Nets 44-28

I’m going to shut my mouth about fouls for the time being as we shoot 67 free throws as we take out the Riders in San Diego 134-128. Matias goes 12/20 for 23 points and 10 assists with Rowling being our best with 28 points and 12 rebounds as four Riders were fouled out. Mark Lyday and CJ also got over 20 points with 24 points and 21 points respectively. Jason London always seems to be the best for San Diego and it was no different, going 11/18 for 29 points before fouling out.

Brooklyn Nets 45-28

Well damn, we let the Jazz rally after we finally got a lead to go down 113-91. Nathaniel Jackson was fantastic with 28 points while Flye Austin had an amazingly efficient game with 7 points and 10 assists in 19 minutes. Rowling had 29 points while Pat Sola filled in for Harry with 14 points and 14 rebounds.

Brooklyn Nets 45-29

Grr, I know the Grizzlies are better but we shouldn’t be giving up an eight point last quarter lead to a team like this. The Grizz went 40/41 from the foul line as Jimmy Forrest did his bit with 16/16 from the stripe for 36 points as we went down 125-118. Cort Majishun was good (as usual) with 20 points and 7 rebounds. Matias had another devil’s triple double with 23 points, 12 assists and 10 turnovers as Harry had an astonishing 19 free throw attempts, only hitting five. Yep, 5/19 compared to Forrest’s 16/16. That’s where we lost it.

Brooklyn Nets 45-30

Much better. Harry went 5/6 from the line for 27 points and 9 rebounds, CJ added 26 points and Matias dished out 17 assists to snap our small losing streak 119-96 over Denver. Schuyler Vanderwerken led the Nuggets with 18 points and 10 rebounds.

Brooklyn Nets 46-30

Ouch. The Hornets scored in the thirties in all four quarters to paste us 138-111, shooting 58% from the field which was just short of their free throw percentage of 59%. Jerry Benton, John Nemitz and Billy Manley seem to have worked things out, combining for 78 points and 30 rebounds to demolish us. CJ was our best with 29 points but fouled out, as did Harry but Pat Sola did his best with 22 points in his place.

Brooklyn Nets 46-31

We’re back in the winning column as we take care of the worst team in the league, Orlando, 106-97 in a great team effort. Not only did we keep the Magic to 39% from the field we had inputs from all of the guys that played, as CJ and Rowling led the way with 19 points each. PJ Fowler was the leader for the Magic with 16 points as team is definitely looking to the off season.

Brooklyn Nets 47-31

I don’t know how it happened by Rowling’s 27 points was good enough for player of the game even though Matias had a 19 points, 14 assist and 10 rebounds triple double in our 122-102 win over Toronto. Harry and Mark Lyday added 22 points each was the Raps went 1/13 from three. Marcus Sanders had 24 points and 15 rebounds as they are another team looking for the future.

Brooklyn Nets 48-31

Another game against another lottery team equals another win, this time 108-99 over Charlotte. We had three great players in this one with CJ leading the way with 26 points, 8 rebounds, 4 blocks and 4 steals, with Harry (14 points, 16 rebounds) and Matias (20 points, 10 assists, 7 rebounds) backing him up. Austin Young was the high man for the low team with 21 points and 7 rebounds. If only we played well in that brutal stretch we could have finished strong and got a higher seed.

Brooklyn Nets 49-31

Our second last game of the regular season was a comfortable 104-87 win over Milwaukee as the Bucks didn’t have any scorers over 14 points as they shot 36%. Matias didn’t shoot well as well but he did everything else well with 16 points, 9 rebounds, 9 assists and 8 turnovers for a near devil’s quadruple double. Spooky.

Brooklyn Nets 50-31

Woo, 50 wins!

If we don’t win where Indiana are missing Ish Faye and Robert Arnold and Curtis Anderson combine to shoot 12/42 then something is wrong. Luckily we belt out a win in our final game 127-119 behind Mark Lyday’s 26 points. He has really come along since Chris Canal was traded and settled into the starting five. Matias Perez was also great with 14 points and 16 assists and has really taken on the primary ball handler position with CC gone.

Brooklyn Nets 51-31

Eastern Conference Final Standings
1 – Philadelphia 76ers – 57-25 (.695)
2 – New Orleans Hornets – 56-26 (.683)
3 – Miami Heat – 54-28 (.659)
4 – Washington Wizards -54-28 (.659)
5 – Brooklyn Nets – 51-31 (.622)
6 – Memphis Grizzlies – 50-32 (.610)
7 – New York Knicks – 42-40 (.512)
8 – Cleveland Cavaliers – 39-43 (.476)
Last – Charlotte Bobcats – 19-63 (.232)

Orlando was third last after a late flurry, ending at 21-61.

Western Conference Final Standings
1 – Dallas Mavericks – 68-14 (.829)
2 – Portland Trailblazers – 56-26 (.683)
3 – San Antonio Spurs – 50-32 (.610)
4 – San Diego Riders – 50-32 (.610)
5 – Milwaukee Bucks – 49-33 (.598)
6 – Denver Nuggets – 46-36 (.561)
7 – Golden State Warriors – 42-40 (.512)
8 – Sacramento Kings – 40-42 (.488)
Last – Los Angeles Lakers – 26-56 (.317)

As hard it is to say, the East is the better conference as we would be sitting in third place in the West.

2032 NBA Playoffs

Eastern Conference
#1 Philadelphia vs. #8 Cleveland
#2 New Orleans vs. #7 New York
#3 Miami vs. #6 Memphis
#4 Washington vs. #5 Brooklyn

Western Conference
#1 Dallas vs. #8 Sacramento
#2 Portland vs. #7 Golden State
#3 San Antonio vs. #6 Denver
#4 San Diego vs. #5 Milwaukee

Great, we play the Wizards who flogged us in all three of our meetings in the regular season. Anything short of a miracle will see us in the off season.

Eastern Conference First Round – Brooklyn vs. Washington

Point Guard
Matias Perez vs. DeShaun Worley
16.7 points, 10.9 assists, 4.1 rebounds vs. 13.3 points, 11.1 assists, 5.2 rebounds

A battle of two of the best pure point guards in the league will be fantastic to watch. They can pull assists out of thin air and both teams have enough firepower to make some fireworks.

Winner - Draw

Shooting Guard
John Kelly vs. Jacob Alexander
19.1 points, 2.8 assists, 4.6 rebounds vs. 10.0 points, 1.4 assists, 3.0 rebounds

The mid-season addition, Kelly had big shoes to fill after Chris Canal left. He hasn’t disappointed, bringing a kind of defence that Canal just couldn’t match. Alexander is too old to be able to stay with Kelly this series.

Winner - Brooklyn

Small Forward
Chris Jackson vs. Jason Sanders
17.0 points, 2.1 assists, 6.5 rebounds vs. 15.8 points, 1.5 assists, 5.6 rebounds

Jackson should be an All Defence player this awards season and he could sneak into the All NBA teams with some luck. That doesn’t mean he will cruise in this match-up as Sanders is bigger and stronger than Jackson and will do all he can to push him out of his comfort zone.

Winner - Brooklyn

Power Forward
Mark Lyday vs. Brian Benton
13.0 points, 1.4 assists, 5.8 rebounds vs. 14.9 points, 1.2 assists, 8.5 rebounds

Don’t let Benton’s numbers fool you, he is a star In the league. It’s just that Rowan Taylor’s shadow is large and Benton is caught in it. Lyday has come along well this rookie season but he will be shown how a real big man plays here.

Winner - Washington

Centre
Jason Harriman vs. Rowan Taylor
15.4 points, 1.1 assists, 8.4 rebounds vs. 26.6 points, 0.7 assists, 5.6 rebounds

Big, meet bigger. Harriman is a quality centre in the league, probably top ten. That’s unfortunate for him as Taylor would be at least top three in the league and will be on the All NBA teams once again. If Harriman can somehow slow Taylor down the Nets may be closer to the upset.

Winner - Washington

Bench
Ryan Garris, Isiah Ryan, Pat Sola vs. JD Lawson, Sadurni Montolio, Joey Polite

Garris and Ryan have been very important to the Nets but the way Lawson has played off the bench has been legendary. 14.3 points, 5.4 assists and 4.8 rebounds a game while only starting nine games places him squarely in Sixth Man of the Year territory.

Winner – Washington

Prediction – Washington in six. The Wizards have had the Nets’ number all season long so don’t expect much to change. Brooklyn may steal one or two but won’t really compete.

It seems that the Washington crowd just expect their team to get past us as easily as possible, and the team reacted, getting up by 15 points at half time as each team had all kinds of foul trouble. We pegged a little back in the third but the Wizards were still in control, as six of our players had four or more fouls. They didn’t have any better luck, with three of their starters fouled out with three other Wizards having four or more fouls in the game where there was 106 foul shots taken. Most of ours were in the fourth quarter as we went on a 47-22 last term surge to take the first game and their home court advantage 129-114. CJ was b far our best with 26 points, 10 rebounds, 3 blocks and 3 steals while Harry helped out with 22 points and 13 rebounds. We went 34/56 for 61% which sounds like a problem, but the Wizards shot worse, going 30/60 as Sadurni Montolio went 3/12 from the stripe. Brian Benton was the leading scorer for the losers with 19 points on 13/17 free throws while DeShaun Worley added 16 points and 15 assists.

Brooklyn leads 1-0

Game who was very similar to game one where the Wizards got out to a double digit lead (14 points) when we changed gears and ran over the top of them, taking both games in the nation’s capital, this time 116-109. Matias Perez had another devil’s triple double with 27 points, 15 assists and 10 turnovers but he did keep DeShaun Worley to only 11 points and six fouls. CJ was second in command with 22 points and 11 rebounds. Rowan Taylor was harassed all night and only went 6/18 for 19 points and five fouls.

Brooklyn leads 2-0

You would think with Jack Dawkins out with a broken leg the Mavericks would struggle. No way, as they shoot 69% from the field to eviscerate the Kings 162-104. Ledaryl McMillian shot 15/21 from the field and 8/10 from the line for 41 points and 9 assists while Kresimir Balas was unconscious off the bench, playing 27 minutes, shooting 11/12 from the field for 29 points as the third term alone was won 49-19.

It was a battle of the two point guards in game three, with Matias Perez putting up 29 points, 19 assists and 5 rebounds while DeShaun Worley had his number with 19 points, 17 assists and 9 rebounds. The game was also as tight, with neither team having a lead of more than eight points as the game predictably went into overtime. The one category that Worley did win is that Perez fouled out early in the extra period and we couldn’t hold on, losing at home 137-132. Rowling was the high man with 36 points and 9 rebounds as the Wizards were again over 50 free throws for the game as the foul count was 37-21 in their favour. Brian Benton was also great with 23 points and 12 rebounds.

Brooklyn leads 2-1

It was bound to happen one day, with Rowan Taylor being shackled for too long by Harry. He shot really, really poorly (11/28) but Taylor finished with 31 points and 11 rebounds as the series is now all square with all four game being won by the away team, this time 118-101. Jason Sanders also piped up with 20 points and 10 rebounds as we were held to 41% shooting. Mark Lyday had his best game of the series with 26 points and 12 rebounds with Harry adding 15 points, 13 rebounds and 8 blocks. Even though Matias Perez had 21 points and 11 assists he still had 9 turnovers which is just too much and I’m starting to think that bringing him in was a mistake.

Series tied 2-2

There must be something in the Washington air that makes us play well, as we shot 58% from the field and a crazy 71% from three to take another away game 132-117. Pat Sola had a funny game, only playing four minutes but going to the foul line ten times and only making two. Matias was our best with 24 points, 17 assists and 7 turnovers while six other Nets were in double figures as they couldn’t stop us all. Rowan Taylor shot better for 30 points while JD Lawson finally did something with 24 points but when a team shoots as good as we did tonight there is no stopping us.

Brooklyn leads 3-2

Brooklyn went to the second round two years ago but that was with a 40-42 team that got lucky in the first round and then stomped in the second but this is different, this team can play so the support is here in spades. The last time before that a Brooklyn team went to the second round? 2012. Yep, that long ago.

And guess what? We killed them. We didn’t just win, we embarrassed the Wizards by leading by as much as 36 points to move onto the second round with a 134-107 upset win. Matias was again our best with 21 points, 17 assists and 7 rebounds but he had plenty of support with Rowling going 10/14 for 29 points and CJ adding 18 points and 8 rebounds. In fact, we played so much better than Washington that everyone on the roster palyed and scored at least six points, talk about a team effort. JD Lawson was the high man for the vanquished with 17 points but they just weren’t in it from the get go as we got out to a 35-24 lead in the first quarter.

Brooklyn wins 4-2

There were two other upsets in the playoffs, both in the west, with #5 Milwaukee taking out #4 San Diego while #6 Denver upstaged #3 San Antonio in six games. #1 Dallas and #2 Portland both punched their next round tickets in six as well, meaning the other three East series are going the distance.

You wouldn’t believe it but two of those series’ were upsets! #8 Cleveland upended #1 Philadelphia while Julius Hobbs and the #7 Knicks destroyed the #2 Hornets. The uninteresting series was won by the #3 Heat over Cort Majishun’s #6 Grizzlies.

2032 NBA Playoffs

Eastern Conference
#3 Miami vs. #7 New York
#5 Brooklyn vs. #8 Cleveland

Western Conference
#1 Dallas vs. #5 Milwaukee
#2 Portland vs. #6 Denver

We might be in for a shot of making the ECF with the Cavs taking out the Sixers as we won the regular season series 3-1, most of them pretty comfortably.

Eastern Conference Semi-Finals – Cleveland vs. Brooklyn

Point Guard
Jamil Fleming vs. Matias Perez
21.4 points, 5.3 assists, 8.0 rebounds vs. 23.0 points, 15.2 assists, 4.2 rebounds

He may only be 25 years old and in his second year at Cleveland but Fleming is the vocal leader of the team. He has had some injury troubles this season but he’s fighting fit and will do everything he can to push his team forward. Perez has been fantastic in the playoffs so far except for one area – turnovers. He’s leading the playoffs with a staggering seven a game which needs to come down in a hurry if the Nets are to continue.

Winner - Brooklyn

Shooting Guard
Oskar Carlsson vs. John Kelly
2.7 points, 7.7 assists, 7.9 rebounds vs. 21.5 points, 3.0 assists, 6.7 rebounds

Carlsson is the best defender in the league without doubt. Kelly would be arguably top five in the league as well. Other than that they are night and day. Carlsson’s highest score in the NBA is a whopping nine points but he can do everything else, shown by his stats. Kelly is going to need to break away from Carlsson as the Nets rely on his scoring to get them through games.

Winner - Draw

Small Forward
Jesse Rucker vs. Chris Jackson
16.7 points, 3.1 assists, 4.7 rebounds vs. 18.0 points, 2.0 assists, 8.5 rebounds

When Jackson was brought in to play SF at the expense of Lars Ray, people were skeptical. He’s shut them up though, playing magnificently with the added responsibility and should be a part of an All Defence team come awards time. He should also shut down Rucker who is a decent, but nothing special kind of player that will be exposed this series.

Winner - Brooklyn

Power Forward
Alan Millford vs. Mark Lyday
18.4 points, 1.3 assists, 7.4 rebounds vs. 13.0 points, 1.8 assists, 6.5 rebounds

After three years with Los Angeles and Houston, Millford exploded onto the scene, averaging close to 20 points a game for the next three of his career with the Cavs. He’s not the best rebounder or defender but he will be counted on to put the ball in the hoop. Lyday was decent in his first ever playoff series but his defence is what’s going to be needed if the Nets are to advance.

Winner - Cleveland

Centre
Art Stevenson vs. Jason Harriman
15.7 points, 1.1 assists, 6.7 rebounds vs. 13.8 points, 1.5 assists, 7.0 rebounds

Stevenson had all the signs of being a great centre in the league but now in his seventh year it seems that the Cavs will have to settle for him being just a good centre. This battle will be great as they are both good centres that can dominate games every now and again.

Winner - Draw

Bench
Frank Slaughter, Marco Edward, Dustin Harris vs. Ryan Garris, Isiah Ryan, Willis Owens

The Cavs rely heavily on their starters as only Slaughter and Edward get any meaningful court time. Harris is a cancer, and will most likely be gone from the squad next season as Cleveland is his ninth team in 12 years. The Nets’ bench on the other hand are very important to their success as Garris, Ryan and even Pat Sola have come up big when needed. Owens is coming off a broken nose so will be rusty.

Winner – Brooklyn

Prediction – Brooklyn in six. The Cavs’ win over the Sixers has made them very dangerous but many experts think that their luck has run out against Brooklyn.

Game one is a close one throughout as we got out to a dozen point lead in the third behind Harry’s 18 points and 12 rebounds but then, for some reason, we stopped playing and the Cavs torched us, going 30-19 in the last to take home court advantage away from us with a 99-87 win. The Cavs shot 35% from the field and still won because they shot 14 more free throws. Jamil Fleming went 7/25 from the field but still finished with 29 points while Frank Slaughter had a crazy game, going 0/11 for 3 points, 11 rebounds and 6 assists. Matias nearly had a triple double with 14 points, 13 assists and 9 rebounds but fouled out early in the last.

Cleveland leads 1-0

We need to get this game back, otherwise we might be sunk before we really get going. Oskar Carlsson still hasn’t hit a field goal (0/5 in game one and 0/6 here) but still had 13 rebounds and 7 assists but it was us who did the torching, winning the last quarter 36-19 to even the series with a 107-94 win. Harry was amazing with 27 points and 12 rebounds while fouling Art Stevenson out in 18 minutes while Matias again had a great game with 25 points and 11 assists with only 4 turnovers. Onto Ohio!

Series tied 1-1

Cleveland hasn’t got past the second round since 2017 so saying the fans are ready for it is an understatement. Jason Harriman had other ideas with 28 points and 13 rebounds and again fouling out Art Stevenson in only 19 minutes. Too bad none of our other players decided to turn up as we got smashed 128-109 as Jamil Fleming and Jesse Rucker combined for 68 points.

Cleveland leads 2-1

What a strange game this was. The Cavs got out to a 15 point lead in the third term behind Jesse Rucker’s 30 points and 11 rebounds but after he fouled out we went on a tear, forcing overtime. In the extra period it was all Brooklyn, outscoring our opponents 17-9 to take back HCA with a 130-122 win! CJ was the best of the best tonight with 30 points, 16 rebounds, 5 steals and 4 blocks, ably assisted by Matias’ 38 points, 14 assists and 10 turnovers. Yep, another one. Alan Millford had 28 points and 7 rebounds to back up Rucker.

Series tied 2-2

#1 Dallas swept the Bucks 4-0 but the other three series are locked at 2-2.

Back home in Brooklyn with home court advantage we can take a choke hold on the series if we just make a stand here. And what a close game it was, with Alan Millford having 34 points and 9 rebounds, CJ nearly matching him with 28 points, 10 rebounds, 4 blocks and 4 steals as there wasn’t a six point lead for either team through three. We blew it open as we seem to do in the last, outscoring Cleveland 43-33 to go to within one win of the ECF with a 121-113 win. Matias Perez is making a habit of turning the ball over but if he has 25 points, 12 assists, 8 rebounds and 7 steals to go along with his 11 turnovers and we get the win I’m not that fussed. Rowling finally got out from Oskar Carlsson with 21 points in the win.

Brooklyn leads 3-2

In game six we shot 35% from the field, went 4/21 from three and turned the ball over 17 times. But we still won, as the Cavs shot even worse at 35% as we took a 98-86 series clinching win in Cleveland. CJ was the standout tonight with 17 points, 10 rebounds and 6 blocks while Matias, Harry and Mark Lyday all doubling up as well. Jesse Rucker was the only Cavalier to stand up in this game with 31 points and 15 rebounds but needed 30 shots to get those points with only two other Cavs in double figures.

Brooklyn wins 4-2

#3 Miami shook off a hard fighting Knicks team in six games while #6 Denver caused a major upset in the West by knocking off #2 Portland in the full seven games.

Tell me about it, the ride is amazing. The Heat are a different story though, it's going to be a miracle if we win this.

2032 NBA Playoffs

Eastern Conference
#3 Miami vs. #5 Brooklyn

Western Conference
#1 Dallas vs. #6 Denver

We stole our first meeting against the Heat this season but right now they are on another level. They are steaming after being denied twice in three years by the Mavericks and they would love to get back at them.

Eastern Conference Finals – Brooklyn vs. Miami

Point Guard
Matias Perez vs. Kenneth Long
22.0 points, 13.4 assists, 4.3 rebounds vs. 20.5 points, 6.1 assists, 4.2 rebounds

These two could not be any different. Sure they can both score but Perez is a passing genius who gets a little carried away trying to do the fancy pass and turns the ball over too much. Long on the other hand is definitely a shooting guard that for some reason is still being forced to play PG. His assists just come in the flow of play because he has the ball so often but his scoring is where he is most dangerous.

Winner - Miami

Shooting Guard
John Kelly vs. John Morris
19.3 points, 2.8 assists, 5.6 rebounds vs. 12.6 points, 7.8 assists, 4.5 rebounds

Even though Long is listed as PG, Morris does most of the heavy lifting when it comes to play making for some reason. He’s not the best player and will get shut down by Kelly so the Heat’s offence will suffer. It all depends on how much Morris can get away from Kelly to see how much Miami beats them.

Winner - Brooklyn

Small Forward
Chris Jackson vs. Lance Ellis
17.4 points, 1.5 assists, 8.0 rebounds vs. 19.8 points, 2.0 assists, 7.6 rebounds

This is a very interesting match-up because unlike Kenneth Long, Lance Ellis has moved from his natural position of PF to SF with ease. You could almost class him as a SF as he plays primarily on the perimeter. He’ll be up against it though as Jackson is an amazing defender and will run Ellis around the court until he’s blue in the face.

Winner - Draw

Power Forward
Mark Lyday vs. Tim Greenberg
11.8 points, 1.3 assists, 5.8 rebounds vs. 16.4 point, 1.3 assists, 3.9 rebounds

Lyday’s flag was lowered last round against Alan Millford and will be lowered again here. Greenberg’s numbers aren’t as good as usual (what’s up with those rebounding stats?) but he can turn it on in an instant and is the Heat’s go to guy down the stretch. Lyday needs to grow up a few years in a few days if he wants to win this battle.

Winner - Miami

Centre
Jason Harriman vs. Eryk Charnowski
16.2 points, 1.5 assists, 8.7 rebounds vs. 16.5 points, 0.9 assists, 7.8 rebounds

This isn’t as one sided as you might think. Sure Charnowski is much better than Harriman straight up but the Pole has been known to choke in the playoffs and Harriman is an out and out fighter. This could be interesting. Or Charnowski could blow Harriman out of the water.

Winner - Miami

Bench
Ryan Garris, Isiah Ryan, Pat Sola vs. Travis Ross, Cederic Mapp, Winston Young

The Miami bench is even more aenemic than Cleveland’s as the only player who gets any minutes is Petrick Brennan and he’s injured at the moment. Brooklyn depend on guys like Garris and Ryan so if the Heat’s bench don’t bring it then their starters will be playing even longer minutes.

Winner – Brooklyn

Prediction – Miami in six. Lance Ellis, John Morris, Tim Greenberg and Petrick Brennan are all nursing injuries so the Nets might steal a game or two but their Cinderella story finishes here.

Isiah Ryan had 21 points and 6 rebounds. John Kelly shot 7/20 for 19 points. Those were the only two Brooklyn players in double figures as we go down in game one 105-97. We never led in the game as the Heat show their class with seven players in double figures led by Travis Ross of all players with 18 points in 19 minutes off the bench. So much for Miami’s bench not doing anything.

Miami leads 1-0

Uh oh, Kenneth Long and Eryk Charnowski have got their sights set. Long had 38 points, 7 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals while Charnowski put up 31 points and 14 rebounds as we only had a one point lead for the whole game (better than last game) as the Heat tore us to shreds to the tune of 111-98. John Kelly was our best with 23 points but this series is on the edge of being blown out.

Miami leads 2-0

The team knows we need a win in Brooklyn. The fans knows we need a win in Brooklyn. And more importantly, the Heat knows we need a win in Brooklyn and will do anything to stop that happening. Luckily for us we won every quarter behind Matias 6/7 shooting night for 19 points and 14 assists as we get off our goose egg 125-109. We shot 57% from the field compared to their 45% as Long and Charnowski cooled off for only 32 points between them. Good start but we need the next game as well.

Miami leads 2-1

In game four, Kenneth Long went 3/14 from the field and fouled out in 30 minutes and the Heat still got out to a 13 point lead in the second term. What the hell? The team thought of that as well and turned it up in the second half as we outscored the Heat 30-18 in the last quarter as we square the series 106-100. Matias turned it over eight times but also added 24 points, 16 assists and 7 rebounds while CJ went 9/12 for 23 points. Aww yeah, bring it on Miami, we’re back in the race.

Series tied 2-2

Well that was embarrassing. After all my ‘aww yeah’-ing we got smashed. Really smashed in game five as the Heat didn’t like our little outburst and showed their distaste with a 29-16 first quarter to blow us out 130-104. Kenneth Long had 28 points and 9 assists while our great statistic was we had 29 fouls. Yep, we got basted.

Miami leads 3-2

In a move that surprised no-one, #1 Dallas took out #6 Denver in five games to make it to their fourth straight NBA Finals.

I would love to take on the Mavericks in the NBA Finals. We’d get stomped but that’s not the point. The point is that the NBA would be swimming in money like Scrooge freaking McDuck. We need to win two more games for the fantasy to become reality and it all starts in Brooklyn. We had the perfect start with a 39-30 first quarter lead but more importantly both Eryk Charnowski and Tim Greenberg were in foul trouble. The Heat came back in the second and third quarters but like usual we held our head high in the last and took the ball and ran, pummeling the Heat 37-24 to force a deciding game with a 120-101 win. Matias only scored 14 points but he dished out 17 assists and held Kenneth Long to an abhorrent 2/20 shooting night for only 9 points. Read that again, two makes on 20 attempts. Ouch.

Series tied 3-3

This is it. This is it. I heard that this is it. Game seven, all eyes on us. The team that started well then fell in a heap and got the goods where it mattered and all that stands between us and a killer battle with the untouchable Mavericks is one more game in Miami, Florida.

OK, the bad news. Lance Ellis torched us for 36 points and 14 rebounds. The Heat went 42/51 from the foul line. Matias Perez fouled out in 24 minutes. The good news, Jason Harriman had his best playoff game with 37 points and 10 rebounds. Michael Byrd filled in admirably with 12 points and 9 assists for Matias. Kenneth Long went 1/10 from the field and WE WON 115-106!!!! We won, we won we won!! Oh my goodness, the Heat never led in the game and did you know that we are going to the NBA Finals!

2032 NBA Finals

#5 Brooklyn vs. #1 Dallas

We actually split the season series but as well all know too well, this team is geared towards the playoffs. In our favour, Jack Dawkins broke his leg back at the start of April and won’t be fully fit for at least another two weeks so unless he does something stupid (which may happen) we won’t see him.

Point Guard
Matias Perez vs. Ledaryl McMillian
18.9 points, 12.7 assists, 4.1 rebounds vs. 27.4 points, 10.0 assists, 5.5 rebounds

The one knock that has plagued McMillian’s career was that he was a shoot first, pass second point guard. Heck, a case could be made for him being a shoot first and second and whatever is left over he passes. Not this post-season. With Jack Dawkins out injured McMillian has had to take on a much larger passing responsibility and has succeeded. Those numbers are crazy good and Perez (another old Dallas point guard) will need to play better than he ever has this post season to slow the Buzzsaw down.

Winner - Dallas

Shooting Guard
John Kelly vs. Tate McKenzie
18.5 points, 4.8 rebounds, 2.5 assists vs. 13.9 points, 7.0 assists, 4.4 rebounds

This match-up might make or break the chances of the Nets pulling off an upset as Kelly needs to dominate McKenzie. “Little T” may only be 5’11” but his hard nosed defence draws praise from big name opponents and if he can slow down the high scoring Kelly it will be lights out for Brooklyn.

Winner - Brooklyn

Small Forward
Chris Jackson vs. Earl Oliver
16.1 points, 1.5 assists, 7.5 rebounds vs. 12.8 points, 2.0 assists, 3.5 rebounds

To think that it was only three years ago when Oliver averaged nearly 24 points a game to lead the Mavs to a title. Now, at age 35, he has been thrust into the starting role after Jack Dawkins broke his leg. Jackson is another Net who needs to demolish his opponent as not only is Oliver old his defence is truly awful at the best of times.

Winner - Brooklyn

Power Forward
Mark Lyday vs. Terry McKenzie
11.9 points, 1.1 assists, 5.4 rebounds vs. 19.9 points, 0.8 assists, 9.5 rebounds

Talk about being thrown to the wolves. Mark Lyday has played Brian Benton, Alan Millford, Tim Greenberg and now his hardest challenge in McKenzie. This should break his back as “Big T” is on a rampage this post season and is looking for his second championship ring.

Winner - Dallas

Centre
Jason Harriman vs. Mike Lingle
17.0 points, 1.4 assists, 8.6 rebounds vs. 12.5 points, 1.3 assists, 5.1 rebounds

After a slow start Harriman has took it upon himself to guide this team through the upsets. He was especially effective against Eryk Charnowski and should have his way with Lingle as well.

Winner - Brooklyn

Bench
Ryan Garris, Isiah Ryan, Pat Sola vs. Kresimir Balas, Jason Allen, Morris Simmons

Balas has gone from strength to strength and these playoffs have been his coming out party, where he has outplayed Mike Lingle by a fair margin. He will come up against resistance in Isiah Ryan while the rest of the Dallas bench is fairly lacking. Brooklyn will be depending on their bench to give their starters some well needed rest.

Winner – Brooklyn

Prediction – Dallas in five. Even though Brooklyn won more match-ups these Mavericks have been here before and know all the tricks. Adding to that, McMillian and McKenzie can take over games by themselves, something that the Nets don’t have.

I was dreading walking into the home of the Mavericks, thinking that the fans would rip me to shreds. It was the complete opposite though, as before the game people were falling over each other to shake my hand and to thank me for what I did for the team and for the city of Dallas. Hell, I even got a spotlight in one of the timeouts and a huge round of applause. Damn, these fans are the best in the world bar none. Sorry Brooklyn, but prove me wrong.

To the game, well it wasn’t much of one. The Mavs got out to a 31-18 first quarter lead and kept extending it as we never led in the game nor won any of the quarters as we got put in our place 119-86. Ledaryl McMillian did his think with 27 points, 9 assists and 6 rebounds while Terry McKenzie added 20 points and 12 rebounds. The two guys who really made the difference for Dallas was Mike Lingle and Earl Oliver with Lingle putting up 10 points, 10 rebounds and 7 blocks while holding Harry to 6/20 shooting while Earl Oliver scored 21 points. John Kelly was our best with 2 points but Matias had a shocker, going 2/8 for 4 points, 16 assists and 11 turnovers.

Dallas leads 1-0

Urk. That’s the sound I made when Terry McKenzie dunked on Pat Sola with three minutes to go in the third term as the Mavericks capped their 10-0 run. The third quarter alone they outscored us 39-22 as we are dangerously close to bottoming out in this series and they squashed us 111-84 without much effort. Ledaryl McMillian and Terry McKenzie both scored 31 points with Big T adding 11 rebounds while the Buzzsaw stole the ball five times. Jason Harriman was our best on paper with 14 points and 11 rebounds but he went 4/16 and we’re struggling.

Dallas leads 2-0

I may have spoken too soon. The Brooklyn Army were out in force in game three with a sea of white greeting me and a piercing roar from their mouths. What a sight. And what a game! Matias and Ledaryl had a fight to remember with both players having 20/20 games, that’s right both. Matias had 25 points and 20 assists while McMillian fought back with 20 points and 22 assists. Terry McKenzie and Mike Lingle combined for 58 points while Chris Jackson and John Kelly combined for 60 points of their own. It was a back and forth all game long with the Mavs opening up a dozen point lead before we stormed back for our own ten point margin, only for Dallas to storm back again! This back and forth was exhilarating before we pressed ahead to take the game 129-124 to break our NBA Finals drought. However…

Dallas leads 2-1

In all the excitement, one play was overlooked. One simple play that looks to have doomed us. With 40 seconds to go in the game both Matias Perez and John Kelly collided with Kresimir Balas going for a loose ball, with both of our players coming off much worse. After the game I was told that Matias Perez broke his arm and will be out for a month and a half while John Kelly severely strained his foot and will be out of action for at least one game. So in one play we lost our starting back court and our two leading scorers. Michael Byrd and Ryan Garris will take their positions in the starting line-up.

As you could expect, we were just outplayed by the much better Dallas Mavericks. Michael Byrd tried his hardest with 8 points and 8 assists but Ledaryl McMillian had his way all night long with 32 points and 9 assists as we go down 116-93 and it should have been a bigger margin. To their credit, we played hard all game and our fans stayed with us all night but they are just too good. Chris Jackson was our leader with 23 points, 9 rebounds and 4 blocks but was nullified by Earl Oliver’s 25 points.

Dallas leads 3-1

How about that! John Kelly started the game as he tried to pull his team through the mud. He went 3/15 and was outplayed by Tate McKenzie (14 points, 8 rebounds, 7 assists) but it was good to see him out there. Ledaryl McMillian was again the star with 30 points while Terry McKenzie added 24 points and 14 rebounds as the Mavericks won their second consecutive championship with a 123-108 score line. Chris Jackson was our best with 31 points and 6 steals and it’s good to see what level we have to get to, to win a championship. Ledaryl was named Finals MVP with averages of 28.0 points, 10.4 assists, 4.6 rebounds and 3.4 steals as I actually got a hug from him and Jack Dawkins.

I said to them both, “we’re coming for you guys”.

What is the Mavs' contract situation? How long until they break up?

I ask because I hope for a rematch...this time, with Jack.

Geez, you want us to get beaten even worse? :D

Ledaryl signed a big five year contract with the Mavs last off season so he's not going anywhere until he's 35 (he's 30 at the moment).

Jack and T-Mac are both deals with three years to go with Jack being 26 years old and Big T 28 years old so the big three are going to be there for a while yet.

We have the fourth best odds to nab the number one draft pick due to our trade way back at the start of the season when we dealt Akin Feaster to Boston. Talk about good luck.

16 – Minnesota (0)
15 – Charlotte (0)
14 – Phoenix (0)
13 – Cleveland (0)
12 – Nevada (0)
11 – Detroit (0)
10 – Indiana (0)
9 – Oklahoma City (0)
8 – Atlanta (0)
7 – Seattle (0)
6 – Houston (0)
5 – Los Angeles (0)
4 – Brooklyn (0)
3 – Charlotte (-2)
2 – Orlando (+1)
1 – Toronto (+1)

Wow, talk about a snooze fest. This much have been one of the least movement drafts I’ve ever been a part of but congrats to the Raptors who should take Derrick Culuko.

Awards time and I really think that Chris Jackson has a chance to sneak into the All NBA third team.

Most Valuable Player:
Ledaryl McMillian, Dallas Mavericks – 26.8 points, 7.9 assists, 4.6 rebounds, 1.8 steals and 0.6 blocks.

Can’t really complain about this one, he led his team to the best record and to the title.

Defensive Player of the Year:
Oskar Carlsson, Cleveland Cavaliers – 2.7 points, 8.1 assists, 7.9 rebounds, 2.5 steals, 2.9 blocks

Same deal here, he was the best defender by far.

Sixth Man of the Year:
JD Lawson, Washington Wizards – 14.3 points, 5.4 assists, 4.8 rebounds, 0.8 steals, 0.8 blocks

Those numbers are damned good even for a starter which is a reason why the Wizards were so good this season.

Rookie of the Year:
Keith Chapman, Seattle Supersonics – 9.3 points, 1.0 assist, 5.9 rebounds, 0.5 steals, 1.3 blocks

Not sure about this one as I would have thought that either Cameron Brown from Houston or our Mark Lyday would have been a better choice.

Coach of the Year:
Kevin Garnett, Dallas Mavericks – 68-14 (.829)

Easiest award to give, best record and championship? Done.

All NBA First Team:
Ledaryl McMillian, Dallas Mavericks
Magnus Carlsson, Golden State Warriors
Tiburcio Tommasini, Portland Trailblazers
Terry McKenzie, Dallas Mavericks
Rowan Taylor, Washington Wizards

All NBA Second Team:
Michael Taylor, Los Angeles Lakers
Jason London, San Diego Riders
Alfons Dietz, Seattle Supersonics
Nathaniel Jackson, Utah Jazz
Jimmy Forrest, Memphis Grizzlies

All NBA Third Team:
Cort Majishun, Memphis Grizzlies
Kenneth Long, Miami Heat

Mike Joseph, Nevada Neon
Ish Faye, Indiana Pacers
Schuyler Vanderwerken, Denver Nuggets

All Defence First Team:
Camah Williams, Minnesota Timberwolves
Oskar Carlsson, Cleveland Cavaliers
Jamaal Lewis, Philadelphia 76ers
Ron Morgan, Milwaukee Bucks
Brian Benton, Washington Wizards

All Defence Second Team:
Jehiel DeSantis, Denver Nuggets
Kenneth Long, Miami Heat
Chris Jackson, Brooklyn Nets
Marcus Randle, Portland Trailbazers
Schuyler Vanderwerken, Denver Nuggets

All Rookie First Team:
Lou Beck, Milwaukee Bucks
Adonis Molnar, Atlanta Hawks
Torian Roma, Orlando Magic
Keith Chapman, Seattle Supersonics
Neil Prato, Boston Celtics

All Rookie Second Team:
Tony Solverson, Phoenix Suns
Cameron Brown, Houston Rockets
JoVann Orvis, Indiana Pacers
Mark Lyday, Brooklyn Nets
Courtney Boykin, Toronto Raptors

I have a small exchange with Mr Wilkins about how we did this season and I reckon we did damn well from where we started. He didn’t like it that we were at the top end of our compromise of $10-15 million so he didn’t chastise me, it was just a caution to get the salary of the team lower if I can. He was over the moon that we got the the NBA Finals as that meant more money for him but I wasn’t so confident that we could do it again so I tell him that for the same amount of money we should have a real good shot of going deep in the playoffs.

The official mock draft was released and this draft doesn’t look very good, at all. There’s Culuko who could eventually be as good as Rowan Taylor as he plays very similar but there doesn’t seem to be any other star talent.

1 – Toronto – C Derrick Culuko
2 – Orlando – SG Joe West
3 – Charlotte – SG Shaun Tebbs
4 – Brooklyn – SF Maurice Marlow
5 – Los Angeles – PF Chris Waters
6 – Houston – C Charles Dubbs
7 – Seattle – C Tony Favors
8 – Atlanta – C Clifton Scholl
9 – Oklahoma City – SF Joe Morgan
10 – Indiana – PG Randy Canal
11 – Detroit – PF Gerrod Phelan
12 – Nevada – PG Brian Stackhouse
13 – Cleveland – SF David Sanden
14 – Phoenix – PF Josh Mayers
15 – Charlotte – PF Jerry Jones
16 – Minnesota – SG Joem Hawkins
