Also, I guess I can say that UNM started the season ranked #8. After a lukewarm win over Missouri followed by a blowout of the U of I, they moved up to 6th. Their last game was a 29 pt blowout of #4 Memphis, so if they take care of business in their next game, they should move up a couple more notches. Another brutal schedule with a lot more road games (mostly return games to teams that travelled to the Pit the last 2 years).

8 teams on UNM's schedule ranked in the top 15 preseason...4 in the top 10, and about half of them on the road.

In the next game against #9 Kansas, Gary was shocked to see that the corrupt Big Twelve official that was the crew chief in the NCAA contest last year, is the official the Big Twelve assigned to this game as well. Gary refused to get a technical. The Lobos took their one and only lead of the game on a steal by Tatum of an entry pass that he outletted to a jetting Houston for a layup with 0.3 on the clock. After a long discussion the Big Twelve official convinced the MWC crew that the clock should be reset to 1.1 seconds. The Jayhawks whipped a pass towards mid court which connected with the head of said official... Justice!

While making the steal that led to the pass that won the game, a Jayhawk stomped on Tatems pinky toe. Xrays show it's not broken..just mangled. Right now it's blown up bigger than his big toe. He can't even get his socks on let alone his shoes...it'll probably be 2-3 weeks before he can dress unless they let him play barefoot.

After blowing out #4 Memphis and outlasting #9 Kansas, the Lobos move up ONE spot to #5. (and stay at #6 in the coaches poll). Jerry considers briefly about filing a law suit against the AP.

Against #13 Louisville, another close call. The Cardinals have the most relentless post offense I've seen in all my years of coaching. With Tatum out and Freshman Ohl overwhelmed te last few games, it was difficult to say the least. But Martin Ray showed why he was a preseason 2nd team All American with a Russelesque 23 pts, 20 rebs, and 4 blocked shots. The ever-improving Isaac Garren scored a career high 16.

Now comes the TOUGH part of our schedule... 4 of the next 5 games on the road, and the one home game is against #3 Pitt

Tatum recovering a little faster than expected. His pinkie toe is now down to the size of a very large plum. 3 or 4 days from now he may finally be able to put his sock on.

I think Tatum didn't really get his toe stomped upon, it's just that during the post-closed-scrimmage-feast he ate too many potaTOES. and got the rare medical condition known clinically as TMPPT (Too-Many-Potatoes-Pinky-Toe).

Yeah, yeah...I know...that was my biggest stretch in a comment here yet. I should be ashamed (but I'm not).
