Questions about DDSCB2018

Certainly feel free to ask questions about the DDSCB2018 here in the forums. There are a lot of people who have played DDSCB for quite a while. They and those who recently have begun playing DDSCB are likely to have some ideas that may help you.

BUT...also there is a "QUICK GUIDE" available by selecting "HELP" on the game screen. Then click on the BOOK icon on the left side of the resulting Help screen. That will open a pdf containing the Quick Guide. The guide is meant to provide basic guidance to help players with the various components of DDSCB2018 as they progress through the game. It is NOT a detailed manual on all nuances of the game and doesn't get into strategy guidance.

One of the beauties of this game is that you can play it so many different ways, and people evolve their own strategies and game play techniques as they continue to play the game.

Try out the different parts of DDSCB2018 including Exhibition Games, Tournament Maker (i've loved this one since it came out with DDSCB2017), Importing an association from DDSCB2017 (brand new with DDSCB2018), a multiplayer game (you can run multiplayer by yourself if you want to have more than one coach you can control). And don't forget there is a Restore Association Backup if something catastrophic ever goes wrong with one of your associations.

I've played DDSCB since before it was DDSCB (the Total College Basketball version that preceded DDSCB) and the game has been my "go-to" game of choice during that entire period. I've been pleased with the improvements that have come along with each succeeding version of DDSCB. Having played with the "new things" that are a part of the DDSCB2018 package in beta testing the past month, I think you're going to like the resulting product. My only involvement with Wolverine Studios, other than buying and playing some of their games, is that I've been a beta-tester for a couple versions of DDSCB.

And as YOU play DDSCB2018 I think you're going to experience a LOT that you really like about the game and probably will think of things you'd like to be improved or added to the game. It's natural for most all of us to be quick to comment on what we want improved or added but less likely to mention what we like that's already part of any game we play.

I'd like to encourage you to turn that around a bit and freely express here what you LIKE about the game. I do this for 4 reasons:

1. I don't personally know Gary so he may be one of those rare individuals who never needs a pat on the back, but I'm guessing he's like most of us for whom pats on the back mean a lot. He's worked hard to develop a good game, so why not let him know that you appreciate that?
2. As an ulterior motive, I think that a happy-Gary will be the most receptive when we start providing our future "wants" for the game (and we always want more and more and better and better).
3. When you tell all of us about what has worked well for you and how you've successfully experimented with things within the game, we all can learn new tips on how to get even more enjoyment from the game.
4. It's important that people coming to this site as they evaluate whether they want to purchase DDSCB2018 know what's great about the game. That way they will be more likely to buy the game. And the more that buy the game, the more successful Wolverine Studios becomes which will make it easier for them to continue to improve the existing games and add new games that all of us may enjoy. In fact, if you like this game, I'd highly encourage you to let others know about it so they can decide if it's a game they'd like to have.

As you mentioned I like the flexibility, it can fit so many different types of people and how they want to play. Whether they want to set up dream tournaments, take over their favorite team, or build from the bottom.

How realistic it is is my favorite partso far, I’ve been searching for a game like this for a very long time. Good recruits won’t even talk to you at a smaller school, as it should be! And there is so many different personalities that result in endless possible situations and ways to build your team. So many different ways to approach each individual game based on the players you have, opponent scouting, etc.

An underrated feature is being able to be an assistant coach. If you’re like me your ultimate goal is to start from the very bottom and make it to the top (on the hardest level!). This gives the option to truly do that. I have just been doing quick little snippets trying to figure my way around recruiting and gameplay before I start my first all in dynasty when Bloomington comes out with his mod, but I tested it out and have decided my first year I’m going to go with no school, then take an assistant job from there. In my test I ended up as a recruiter and it was awesome being able to have an impact, but also keeping it realistic and not giving me power or control that the Head Coach has.

I haven’t had enough in game experience to comment on that yet

If I buy the gold national package, is it necessary to buy any of the regional packages? I feel like I am talking to the cable company lol

Oh, also, how important is the Athleticism attribute?

I don't know if the game creates players that have high steals and low athleticism or the reverse of that which would be high athleticism and low steals, but if the game did, which player would you prefer for a pressing or pressure defense?

Got another one.... What does popularity do? i can understand the point in the pro game but im not sure in this game. my leading scorer is listed as very likeable with great relationships with team and coach with an ok work ethic yet is listed as close to hated...why? is this random? and what effect will it have

LOL that's a good one! The gold national is going to give you the detailed info on the top 150 hs seniors overall so you might get the 40 best players out of say the Great Plains region but if you buy the gold Great Plains report you will get the detailed info on the top 200 hs seniors in the Great Plains so yes there is a reason to buy both if you can afford it

Athleticism is very important if you want to play defenses like traps and presses - if you press with a low athleticism team you'll give up far more easy baskets than you would without pressing so that is more important than steals

It's just a fan view of the player - its more there just to carry over to the pro game than anything else

i am a bit dissapointed in some of my players progression over the years. What is the best way of facilitating player progression? Is it through the assistant coaches? Does calling players help? is there something else im missing?

One thing you might try is to look for a comment from a recruit's high school coach that he's a hard worker. Maybe also that he doesn't miss any practices.
