Fast Break Points

My teams always seem to give up a lot of fast break points. Anything in my approach that might be causing this? Or anything I can do to reduce the fast break points against?

Between 5 and 9 depending on situation. If we are down later in the game I put it t higher. I am new to basketball strategy so any advice would be helpful.

At 9 or 10, you pretty much have everyone going to the offense boards, and that makes you vulnerable to the fast break. I usually set mine at 8. The other team gets a few fast breaks but not to the extent that it is a game changer, or at least not very often. I set Defensive rebounding at 10. I get LOTS of RBs, usually near the top in the nation, but I don't get a lot of fast breaks. Everything is a trade off.

So basically, if you set Offensive Rebounds high, you might get more offensive rebounds, but be subject to more fast breaks. Likewise, if you set Defensive Rebounds to high, you will get more defensive rebounds but won't get as many fast break points. Correct?

It would be great to have an outline of the in-game strategies, and the trade-offs. For instance, if you set the offensive pace to high (pro's / con's). Likewise, if you set the level of Freedom higher, what's the tradeof...

Ask specific questions and we'll try to answer. This is an active and friendly forum. If you set your offensive pace too low you'll get turnovers because of too many passes before a shot. Too high and you'll get TOs because of running the O too quickly. I have a lot of success at 7, sometimes 6.

You are correct BKL - also if you are pressing with players inexperienced in that particular press you will tend to give up a bunch of fast break points too as the press gets beaten for layups

a lot of these questions were given answers to in the cb17 manual...is there an updated version of the manual guys? the thing is many many of the games numbers interact in ways that haven't necessarily been revealed, nor should be. One thing i thing i will address though is offensive freedom percentage however. As your players become more familiar with the offensive sets you've been training them in, the lower your offensive freedom percentage should be. Offensive freedom can largely be looked at as "playground play". With a lot of very talented lowly trained underclassmen letting them do their own thing as much as possible may be a good thing, but at a more traditional school with a lot of upperclassmen with strong knowledge of your offensive sets...you want to run those sets a high percentage of the time, thus lower offensive freedom.

CoachC, there's a "guide" for CB2018 rather than a "manual" as was the case for CB2017. The 2018 Guide provides basic info and is available by clicking on HELP and then clicking on the BOOK icon on the left under the heading "Game Questions".
