New guy question 2 ...

Fastbreak offense ... how the heck do you design it within the parameters of the strategy?

I know I will need to recruit the proper types of players to run it but does the fastbreak mainly come from your personal coaching preferences? (the sliders for your coach) or is it a combo of the sliders along with a strategy? none of the strategies really say "fastbreak style" haha.

Someone may be able to answer this better than me. But just my judgment, the Coach style doesn't seem to matter as much as your players. It seems players with good Athletic and Drive ratings seem to dictate fastbreaks as I have tried running less sets and higher pace and it didn't have as much effect as my personnel on the floor did. I would guess that IQ may play into it as well. But what I notice is Drive rating seems to factor in as when you do get a break its usually the high Drive rating guys scoring. May be call your guys and tell them to drive more? I know this takes some time for rating to go up but you could plan for the future.
Guess you can't make players just do something if it isn't in their digital DNA.

If anyone else has more knowledge of fastbreaks, pipe in, as these were just my observation's.

Athletic and Steal ratings are important for fastbreaks. Also, it helps to press and have players who are skilled at running the press you want to run in order to force turnovers and pick up steals. I don't know much else about how to institute a fastbreak heavy playstyle in the game yet.

I'm generally the guy that people are sent to with this type of question, since I ran two long-term dynasties using the Jerry Tarkanian philosophies.

The first thing you need to realize that running does have no correlation with scoring. The scoring ratings determine how likely a player is to put up shots, regardless how bad their shots may be...Athleticism ratings do help to determine how long and how hard they can run up and down the court, but that's not an answer either.

Tarkanian's teams which were legendary for the ppg they put up even BEFORE the shot clock era were built on two things...his Amoeba Zone...and strong rebounding at both ends of the court. he did, of course, recruit the best shooters and scorers he could find, but not at the expense of lousy rebounders and guards that didn't know how to trap.

IF you want to run a high scoring offense, the first thing you know is that it is going to take TIME!! And it's going to be more based upon your ability to recruit to your system than anything else. With my Tarkanian system, in order to emulate his Aboeba zone as best as possible, I'd play m2m defense 67% of the time, 1-2-1 zone the rest of the time on the half court. On full court i'd press about 75 % of the time with about half and half between full court man and the half-court press. I recruited strong rebounders for the c and pf positions, because that's one thing that people never understood about Tarkanian's system..it began and ended with rebounding at both ends. Get perimeter guys that can shoot and play defense, a couple of big men who can rebound...you are on your way...just don't think you will ever be able to score 90+ pg the way that Tarkanian did....but you'll have a helluva lot fun scoring close to 80 ppg!

Hm, never tried the 1-2-1 zone. Seems like it might have some holes in it.

I'm not the best at running pace, despite trying it, well about every DDSCB I've owned :p (in seriousness, I've had varying success with a bad habit of overthinking things), but I'd try upping your transition % along with high offensive pace and work from there to start.
