A New Tomorrow

1/4: 90-58 at Southern Methodist to start AAC play. 24, 4, 4 for Mall, 24, 8, 3 for Pars. All 5 starters with 10 or more. 11 TOs.

And the rains have come.

1/7: 86-64 at #8 Temple. Big win! 49-30 at the half. 28, 6, 4 for Pars. +14 RBs, 11 TOs.

So many of our games are over in the first half. We need competition to get better and we're seldom getting it.

1/11: 92-55 over Uconn here. 52-24 at the half. 27, 6, 7, 5 steals for Pars, who is on fire right now. +23 RBs.

They want shops. We've never had any kind of shopping. On the hub everyone ate in cafeterias. When they needed new uniforms or other clothing they went to the commissary and got it. No real choices, everyone wore pretty much the same things. Furnishings for their living spaces? No such thing. They got a bed, a recliner, a desk and chair, a laptop, and a lamp. No choices involved.

Now they want choices. People have done research, watched videos from the long ago days on Earth, and have discovered that there are other ways to cook and eat, other ways to dress, ways to decorate their living space and work space, and so on. These aren't really new discoveries but living on a planet is different from living on a ship. There's a lot more space for one thing, so there's a lot more moving around, and there are a lot more possibilities.

The council is considering options.

1/14: 86-69 at Tulane. 20, 9, 5 for Mall, 20 for Pars, 18, 4, 8 for Bari. +24 RBs.

At #7 Tulsa next. That could be challenging.

1/18: 81-63. We're beating some really good teams easily. 30, 9, 5 for Pars, 15, 13 for Mall.

Big storm last night. Lots of thunder and lightning and high winds.

1/21: 94-59 over East Carolina. 45, 8 for Pars; what a scorer! 17, 10 for Mall. 6 TOs.

The council says it will explore the possibility of restaurants and clothing shops but not furniture or accessory shops.

19-1, 6-0. Alone in 1st in the AAC with 2 teams one back and three teams two back.

1/25: 90-62 at South Florida. 20, 6 for Pars, 17, 6 for Mall. +17 RBs.

1/28: 74-41 over Memphis. 24, 9, 3 for Pars, 22, 9 for Mall. +22 RBs.

Pars is #3, Mall #8, Whit #26 on the Norton list.

2/1: 77-45 over Southern Methodist. 27, 4, 5 for Pars, who has been just beyond belief. +11 RBs, 7 TOs.

At the halfway mark in AAC play we're 22-1, 9-0, 2 up on Tulsa, Temple, and Cincy. #1, RPI #1. +20.9 PPG, +12.4 RBs, -3.6 TOs. Pars leads in PPG with 24.6,
#2 in the nation. Aron Whit gets 10.4 RBs, #6. Conn Bari gets 5.8 assists, #11, but 4.4 TOs.

The rainy season has been as rainy as usual, but as was the case last year, no hurricanes, and no truly horrible storms, except for that one thunderstorm.

2/4: 74-56 at #14 Cincinnati. 23, 8 for Pars, 15, 11 for Whit.

2/8: 72-52 over Central Florida at home. 17, 7, 5 for Pars, 15, 6, 3 for Mall. +10 RBs, 9 TOs.

The council is accepting applications for restaurants and clothing stores. Given the population here we're ready to approve lots of both. But we'll want to see a well thought out plan. Buildings are being erected in several locations to house these shops.

2/11: 70-50 at #8 Wichita ST. . Balanced scoring, 6 players with 8-15. 12 TOs.

Art Pars is #3, Ryan Mall #9 on the Norton list.

2/15: 68-53 over #5 Temple here at home. Balanced scoring again, with 7 players having between 7 and 14. 9 TOs.

3 game lead in the AAC.

2/18: 83-49 at UConn. They have fallen on hard times. 25, 7, 4, 6 steals for Pars, 15, 13, 3 for Whit. +23 RBs.

The rainy season continues to be relatively uneventful.

2/22: 85-51 over Tulane here. 28, 11, 5 for Pars, 23, 7 for Mall. 11 TOs.

2/25: 79-51 over #6 Tulsa here. Balanced scoring. 13 TOs.

We are 4 games up with 2 to play.

A big storm last night. Not quite a hurricane.

3/1: 93-76 at East Carolina. 33 for Pars. +13 RBs.

One more regular season game.

3/4: 86-48 over South Florida. 27, 5 for Pars. 8 TOs.

We end the regular season at 31-1, 18-0. We win the conf by 4 games. #1, RPI #1. +22.0 PPG, +11.8 RBs, -4.1 TOs. Pars leads us with 23.6 PPG. Whit gets 10.3 RBs. Bari gets 5.8 assists, but 4.0 TOs.

Art Pars is #3 and Ryan Mall #9 on the Norton list and both declare for the draft.

The rainy season has ended. It was mild for the 2nd straight year.

Just over 1000 applications for restaurants and just over 100 for clothing shops. They will all be assessed and then most will be granted. This will lead to a great change in the work structure here, but being on planet has actually caused us the problem of finding work for many people. We duplicated every job on each of the 35 ships on the hub so now many workers are really not needed. These shops will help greatly with that.

Postby Wayne23 » Mon Apr 27, 2020 4:31 pm

3/9: We play #8 seed Tulane, 17-14, 7-11. We beat them by 17 and 34.

3/10: 85-56. Never a game. 25, 8, 5 for Pars, 21, 11 for Mall.

All the favorites advanced so we play #4 seed, #11 ranked Wichita State, 25-7, 12-6. We won by 20 there.

3/11: 92-65. 27, 8, 4 for Pars. +9 RBs.

#3 seed, #8 ranked Tulsa, 26-6, 13-5, for the title. We won by 18 there, by 28 at our place. The only thing that can beat us is complacency.

3/12: 86-79. They gave us a game. We were up only 3 at the half and they took the lead twice in the 2nd half. We went on a run with 14 minutes left and were in charge from then on. 35, 9, 3 for tourney MOP Art Pars. 9 TOs.

Going to selection day I honestly believe the only team that can beat us if we play our game is Duke, and I'm not saying we can't beat them.

#1 East, #1 overall, as expected. We play #16 Omaha, 20-14.

3/16: 76-52. 20 and 7 for Pars, It was never a game.

#9 seed Richmond, 25-10 is next.

3/18: 80-58. Easy game. 29, 7 for Pars, 16, 8, 4 for Mall.

Back to the Sweet Sixteen. We play #4 seed, #10 ranked San Francisco, 27-7. They're a very good team but we should beat them.

Duke was shocked. The only team I think can beat us is gone.

3/23: 94-74. They battled us for more than 30 minutes. 34, 14 for Mall, 28, 10, 4 for Pars, 20 for Carr. +11 RBs, 9 TOs.

#3 seed AAC rival Tulsa, 29-7. They gave us a battle in the AAC tourney final.

3/25: 96-77 and we're in the Final Four. 34, 9, 3 for Pars. +17 RBs.

Upsets everywhere. We're the only #1 to get here. We play unranked, #8 seed Colorado, 28-9, in the national semifinal.

#2 seeds Kansas and Louisville in the other game.

4/1: 87-58 and we're in the title game. First time for me. 24, 14 for Mall, 26, 4, 3 for Pars.

We have yet to be challenged.

#2 seed, #6 ranked Kansas, 31-9, for the title. WE beat them by 17 in the Preseason NIT final. On paper it won't be that easy.

4/3: 84-67 and the title. 31, 11 for Pars. It was close for 25 minutes and then we broke it open.

One loss all season. Winning the title takes a bit of luck. We didn't need it in any of the six games. Our luck came when we didn't have to face Duke. Would they have beaten us again? We'll never know.

4/4: Awards: Art Pars was tourney MOP and 1st team All American. Ryan Mall made 2nd team. I am National COY. In the AAC, Pars is POY, Def POY, Frosh OY and first team along with Ryan Mall. Aron Whit made the 2nd team.

4/9: I decided early this season that if we won the national title here I would move again. Looking for a new challenge and a school where winning will be less than automatic. I'm going to Rider in the Big East. They're a good team but not great.

4/23: I ask for facilities.

No.

Third team in three years.

The council has committees processing restaurant and clothing shop applications but it will be awhile.

5/1: #9 recruiting class.

6/5: 2 guys transfer out. That leaves us with three guards, all Sgs, and 2 of them seniors. The bench will be very thin at all positions.

Hope to land a transfer or two.

We offer to 2 PGs.

6/16: After much effort we wind up with a PG and a C.

6/26: 5 scholarships. I want 3 or 4 guards.

7/2: An early blizzard. It came out of nowhere. No idea why our weather forecasting equipment on the planet and on the hub missed it. The weather stations in both areas are always monitored. Both stations are being checked out for flaws, breakdowns...

7/10: A second blizzard. Vicious winds, way below zero temps, a meter of snow. Awful. Thank goodness we have synths to clean it up. I needed to get to three buildings today. It was horrible getting from place to place. The synths couldn't keep up. Every time they cleared an area the gusty winds blew more snow on it. Still, humans would have gotten frostbite and put their lives in danger.

7/16: Yet another blizzard.

7/21: And another blizzard. This was the worst yet. It combined gale force winds with very heavy snow and very cold temps.

7/27: The snows just won't stop. There are feet of it piled up everywhere and it continues to fall. After a mild winter last year this one is more than making up for it.

The council has decreed emergency travel only until further notice.

8/1: And another blizzard.

8/4: A break in the weather. Today is the first day it has been safe to transport people to and from the hub. The last crew did almost an entire month up there rather than the normal two weeks. All of us who work in multiple buildings were finally able to get to them.

8/11: After a week of comparatively mild weather we got heavy snow today. Cold, but not extremely so, and only moderate winds.

8/16: A blizzard today, a bad one.

8/20: A meter of snow.

8/21: We offer to 4 PGs and a PF.

8/24: A blizzard, not the worst but bad.

8/29: Big snowstorm but not really cold or windy enough to call it a blizzard.

9/2: No snow, temps above freezing.

9/4: Winter is over. Snow is melting. Mini-floods and flash floods everywhere.

We get from place to place via solar/wind carts. These have roofs and side panels that slide to open or closed but they don't really keep out the wind or the wet very well. We have solar/wind trucks as well, for moving things from place to place.

9/11: We lose a guard.

9/18: We get one, lose one. We get a PG, #33.

Fallen Heroes Tourney. Lots of ranked teams on the sched.

9/25: We get 3 lose 1. We get 2 PGs, #52, #75, and a PF, #13. Hoping to land another guard but we may bank the scholarship.

10/2: First day of practice. Yeah... not the team I've gotten used to over the past few years. We'll be okay though.

10/18: 437 restaurants and 57 clothing shops approved. Now it's a question of getting locations, setting up, getting the things they need together, and starting up.
Maybe six months before anything opens.

Lots of people who have never cooked really want to, but there will be a learning curve so hopefully they will do a lot of practicing.

Another challenge will be getting different kinds and styles of clothing designed and manufactured.

11/14: First game is tomorrow!

11/15: 70-51 over #21 Temple at home. 21, 11 for SF Aut Winn. +8 RBs, 12 TOs. Only one game but a good sign.

People are buzzing about the restaurants and shops. The restaurants seem to run the gamut- cafes, breakfast nooks, Chinese, Italian, Indian, German, French- you name it.

11/18: 73-55 over #25 Illinois here. 18, 7 for Winn, 14, 9 for PF Ben Lowe.

11/20: Ranked #13. All 4 recruits sign.

Heading for the tourney. We're the #1 seed. We play #8 Georgia ST.

11/21: 74-54. 15, 4, 4 for PG Bill Mies. +10 RBs.

#5 seed Washington, 1-1, in the semis.

11/22: 83-44. Wow! A real blowout. 27, 6, 3 for Winn, 19, 4, 6 for Mies. +16 RBs, 11 TOs.

#7 seed Mississippi ST, 5-0, for the title.

11/23: 64-50. Our closest game so far and it wasn't close. 22, 11 for Winn, 17, 9 for C Ban Sand. +14 RBs.

So much for not winning all the time. We're 5-0, all double digit wins.

11/26: 59-57 over Louisville here. For the first time we're challenged by an opponent. Close all the way. Mies hit a three at the buzzer for the win. +13 RBs, 11 TOs.

11/29: 74-37 over Auburn at our place. Amazing D! Balanced scoring.

We're #4.

As I walk around or ride around among the buildings I smell food cooking often. Sometimes it smells great, sometimes it smells like, "Keep practicing!"

12/2: 83-72 over Penn ST. We led all the way, by as many as 22. 19 for Sand, 15, 7 for Winn.

8-0, #3. +20.0 PPG, +9.3 RBs, -4.5 TOs. Aut Winn leads us with 16.6 PPG, Ben Lowe gets 6.8 RBs, Bill Mies gets 4.8 assists; he and Winn each get 3.0 TOs.

12/6: 78-69 over Maryland here. We never trailed. 20 for Winn. D is what is winning for us, only twice have we allowed more than 57 points- our last 2 games.

12/9: 72-60 over Green Bay. Again, we never trailed. 21, 7 for Sand, 17, 7, 4 for Winn. +23 RBs.

After playing mostly home games 3 of our next 4 are on the road.

Some people are complaining that they are not getting the food supplies they need to do as much practice cooking as they feel they need to do in order to be ready to open their restaurants. The demand has vastly exceeded the council's expectations.

12/13: 83-90 for our first loss. By FAR the most points we've given up. 21, 3, 5 for Mies, 17, 3, 5 for Winn, 14, 5 for Sand, but -7 RBs, and the D simply wasn't there. Just an off night?

12/16: 67-59 at Denver. That's more like it! Close for most of the night but we shut them down for the last 5 minutes. Balanced scoring and good D.

12/20: 78-71 over #25 Duke here. Never more than 9 points between the teams. 19, 5 for Winn, 15, 4, 7 for Mies, 10, 11, 4 for Sand.

12/23: 85-65 at Kona. 46-23 at the half. 19, 10, 7 for Winn, 18, 4, 4 for Mies. +19 RBs, 8 TOs.

One more to play before Big East play starts.

12/27: 75-53 over #19 California here.

We close out pre-conf play at 14-1, #5, RPI #9. +15.4 PPG, +10.1 RBs, -2.3 TOs. Winn leads us with 17.1 PPG. Lowe gets 6.9 RBs. 4.5 assists for Mies. 2.9 TOs for Winn.
We're #6 in PPG Allowed.

Re: A New Tomorrow

Postby Wayne23 » Tue Apr 28, 2020 5:12 pm

1/3/2189: And here come the rains.

1/6: 74-66 over #18 Albany here. We led all the way. 17, 8, 4 for Winn, 15, 10 for Sand. +15 RBs.

People are working furiously to get ready to open their shops. They're slogging through the heavy rains to get from their home buildings to their business buildings. Oh, all businesses have now been assigned to specific locations, and in nearly all cases necessary equipment is in place. In the restaurants tables and booths are not yet in place but kitchen equipment is.

1/10: 61-64 at #10 St. Johns. It was close all night. We missed a three at the buzzer after 3 lead changes and/or ties in the final minute. We expected a tough game and we got one. 22, 5 for Winn. 20 TOs was the biggest part of the problem.

A hurricane knocked a roof off one building and damaged several others.

1/13: 58-62 at Seton Hall. Road games are tough. We never led. We tied it three times in the last 3 minutes but then we let it slip away, turning it over twice in the final minute. 19 TOs. 20, 8 for Winn.

1/17: 84-66 over #7 Villanova. There's no place like home! Close for 32 minutes. 22, 11 for Sand, 18, 9 for Winn. +12 RBs. Our inside game won this one for us.

A deluge. No hurricane but I've never seen such rain here.

1/20: 61-48 at #15 Georgetown. D won this one. They shot 35.6%, 22.2% on threes. We forced 22 TOs.

Another monster rain. Everything is flooded. For the second time ever all non-emergency travel is prohibited. This may delay business openings.

1/24: 85-69 at Marquette. 16, 7, 5 for Jon Yaro who now starts at SG. +21 RBs.

The rains continue to be heavy though not quite as heavy. The travel ban remains in effect. People are restless and frustrated. Domus is a paradise for about 8 months of the year and a hellhole for the other 4.

1/27: 71-67 over Butler here. Close all the way. We were down one with 30.1 left. We brought it down, got it to Ban Sand who made a layup, was fouled in the act, and hit the free throw, to put us up 2. They worked it, took a 16 footer which missed. Sand got the RB and was fouled. He hit both ends of the one and one. They missed a three and that was that. 20 for Sand, 16 RBs for Ben Lowe. +12 RBs. This was a test though.

1/31: 68-54 over Creighton. 45-17 at the half. Great D. 16, 12 for Sand, 19, 8 for Winn. +13 RBs.

At the halfway mark in Big East play 20-3, 6-2, in a 3 way tie for 2nd, 1 back of Providence. #5, RPI #4. +12.9 PPG, +10.4 RBs, -1.0 TOs, but 15.0 per game is way too many. Not happy with that even though we cause 16.0. Winn leads us with 16.7 PPG. Lowe gets 7.3 RBs. Mies gets 4.0 assists and 2.9 TOs. 5 of our last 8 are against ranked teams, 2 of those on the road.

The rains won't stop. Everyone is still stuck in their home buildings; it's been 11 days.

2/3: 67-72 to #9 Providence at our place. Damn! We really wanted this one but they crushed us early, building a 24 point lead. We fought back for the rest of the game but the final was as close as we got. 23, 10 for Winn but no one else had more than 8. They were better tonight, at our place.

2/7: 64-84 at DePaul. Uh oh. Not good. D wasn't there. This drops us into a 4 way tie for 4th.

Still in quarantine. 18 days.

2/10: 58-78 at Xavier. Seems like the wheels have fallen off. We were listless and sloppy. -6 RBs, 17 TOs. Didn't shoot well, didn't defend well. We need to turn this around.

2/14: 83-85 at #17 Albany. 4 losses in a row. We looked good on O but the D was awful again. They won on a buzzer beater but that's no excuse. 22, 15 for Sand, 20, 6 for Winn.

We're in 7th place, 2 back of 5 teams tied for 2nd, with 4 to play, 3 against ranked teams.

The rains have eased a bit but everything is so flooded that we're at day 25 of the quarantine. A couple of dry days and I think it will be lifted.

2/17: 81-72 over #7 ST Johns here. Finally a win! We took control late in the 2nd half. 24, 4 for Winn, 16, 10, 4 for Sand.

The quarantine is lifted after 28 days.

2/19: Torrential rains and the quarantine is back in effect.

2/21: 65-44 over Seton Hall. 42-16 at the half. 21, 7 for Winn, 14, 8 for Lowe. +15 RBs. 8 TOs.

Still in 7th with 2 to play. And the next one is at #6 Villanova.

2/24: 83-66 over Villanova. Great win! Strong 2nd half did it. 22, 8, 4 for Sand, 19, 6, 4 for Yaro. +14 RBs.

2/28: 72-59 over #17 Georgetown, knocking them out of 1st place. A great 2nd half gets the win. 22 for Yaro.

We end up in a 3 way tie for 4th, disappointing.

24-7, 10-6, +10.0 PPG, +9.4 RBs, -0.4 TOs.

Heading to the post season. We seem to have gotten past that bad stretch but I don't know if we're good enough to do much in the post season.

Quarantine is lifted again. Two days without rain so hopefully the rainy season is over.

Shops will open on April 1.

3/5: Aut Winn declares for the draft.

3/8: We play #11 seed Seton Hall, 12-19, 4-12, in the 1st round.

3/9: 76-61. 43-21 at the half. 18, 10, 5 for Yaro, 19, 7 for Winn, 17, 5, 4 for Sand. +20 RBs.

#3 seed, #17 ranked Georgetown, 22-8, 11-5 in the quarters. We beat them last time but they're tough.

3/10: 77-79. Tough loss. We came back from 16 down, took the lead twice, then missed a shot, then they missed, then we turned it over and finally they scored for the
win. Damn! 18, 3, 5 for Mies.

We're #11 RPI but going out of the tourney this early will probably drop us to a #4 or even a #5 seed. We're 25-8.

3/12: Georgetown won the Big East tourney so at least we lost to the champs.

#3 Midwest. A pleasant surprise. We play #14 Ball State, 18-14.

3/16: 78-61. 22, 8, 3 for Winn. +17 RBs. We looked good.

#11 seed Arizona, 21-12, was an upset winner. We play them in the 2nd tound.

3/18: 58-69 ends our season. Couldn't get the O going. Scored only 24 in the 1st half. 15, 7 for Winn in his last game for us. Two other starters, Lowe and Mies, are also gone.

4/1: The shops open. Seems like nearly everyone ate at a restaurant on this first day. That's not quite true, but the restaurants were all full. And the clothing shops were full too.

We had to work out a system of "payment." We still don't use any form of money, so basically we gave everyone an allowance. They will now get a certain amount of "credits" per month. They can spend them at restaurants or clothing shops and when they're gone, that's it for the month. In order to not overrun the shops the allowance is fairly small. People can eat out once per week if they don't "buy" clothing. Less if they do, proportionate to how much they buy. It is the precursor to a money system, no doubt, but we're trying to forestall that as long as possible. Things are pretty equal here now, and that works. A money system will inevitably change that.

4/3: My old team, #6 San Diego ST finally wins it all. I'm happy for them.

4/4: Awards: Aut Winn is Big East Frosh OY, and 1st team along with Ban Sand.

4/9: I'm staying here.

4/23: I ask for a facilities upgrade.

No.

26-9, 10-6, #9. Despite the #9 ranking we did not meet expectations this season. With what we're losing it's hard to say how good we'll be next season. We do have two promising transfers coming in and the recruiting class looks good.

Restaurants remain very busy, as do clothing shops. People are making sure to spend all of their credits.

5/1: #6 recruit class. No one transfers out.

6/5: We're looking at transfers. We have a couple of slots open.

6/16: We get a great looking PF from Australia.

As expected there is agitation for a monetary system. Making goods available had to lead to that.

6/26: 3 scholarships. We need 2 guards.

7/3: Winter is here. The expectation is that the shops won't do much business during winter and rainy season. Lots of restaurants are closing for winter, as are some clothing shops. But other clothing shops feature winter clothing so they are staying open.

7/14: There has been the usual amount of snow so far but the winds have been moderate.

7/28: Still a lot of snow.

8/11: Our first really huge snowstorm but still no terrible winds.

8/21: We offer to 2 PGs and a PF.

8/22: Our first blizzard, heavy snow, fierce winds.

8/27: Another blizzard.

9/2: No snow for two days and moderating temps. Looks like winter is over. It wasn't horrible. Shops that closed are re-opening.

The agitation for a money system continues.

9/18: Got one, lost one. Got a PG, #50.

Going to the Golden ST Classic.

9/25: Got another guard, #19, lost a big guy. Offering to a 3rd guard.

10/2: We get the 3rd guard, #37.

First day of practice. We look good.

The agitation for a capitalist system continues.

10/18: The council puts out a statement saying that the settlement on Domus is best served by the current system that guarantees equality in living standards for all.

There will be a 10% increase in the monthly credits allotted to each person. Given the limited nature of goods available and the fact that housing will not change, there is no need for a monetary system.

10/20: Widespread protests and demonstration. The council expected this. The feeling is that a large majority favor the current system, but the minority is very vocal.

10/30: Protests have been ongoing but nonviolent.

11/12: Protestors are demanding a referendum.
