Can you insert a button for a commissioner or a sandbox user to bring a player back out of retirement?

Not easily... in some cases players are stored for record purposes, but in others players are just removed from the universe to keep file sizes manageable.

.I hate seeing Tom Brady, Ben R. and more retire after the first year even though they actually are still playing irl.

If you're in sandbox, you can go into the retired players list and sign them via the contract tab on their player card.

It is done to keep file sizes manageable? This is just data and simple at that. No reason for players to just be removed from the universe.

Correct, league files are used to publish online and even with decent compression you're talking about hundreds of megs of data... in the future I suppose I could turn it off so that all players stay and aren't deleted, but load and save times, and publish times for online leagues would definitely be affected.
